Ocicat, what would you say that your strategy for this game is?

My approach in general, simply put: Look for contradictions, logic errors, and slips, point them out, and identify and eliminate scum.

Yo. Could you answer my other question?

Going to keep all your answers in my memory bank, BTW.

Both questions have the same answer. How do I help town? By finding scum.

uhuh.

From what I conjecture already, OCicat is one who lurks and keeps notes and irregularly comments. When he does comment, it's often tangential or queer.

Because he is a heteroclitic player, according to you, should I conclude he is not be compelled to respond to pressure? And even though he pushed JS over something really minute, does he not find other topics worthy of being noted? Or, if his vote was made to garner a response, why not follow up on said response and continue to engage the thread?

I checked his account. I know he is around.

If he is not responding to pressure how is one supposed to read him based on an inexistent reaction?

For the record I HATE when people do this. It means nothing! People use it saying "he posted here.." So?? people post in threads other then mafia some even have responsibilitys to do so.

Other people like me leave the DM window open and go to bed so it will show im online but im not active.

Also sometimes a player doesnt post because they have nothing to say! Thats not lurking imo they could be totally upto date its just not interacting. if they only pop in at OPPORTUNE times for them then THATS lurking.

And someone tell me what the Red possibly tells you about alignment? Cause either Town or Scum or 3rd party could do this.

Also because people wanna start posting post counts again Im about to make a point of how that doesnt mean much either

I do this too. I like to remember where I left off when I get back to it.

And I agree. The red says nothing about alignment.

I don't think scum would pre chat if it was open for 4 days. Then again i'm not sure how Kiv mods.

Why wouldnt they?? They want to win and as discussed above thats a huge advantage. This feels off like ure trying to nmip this thought in the bud

Ooh. Good point.

For the eyes of Tress/Dice only! Unless your feeling frisky. Then go ahead.

Key Len has me a bit thrown. Im used to jokey i dont care D1 Len   he jumped into solid play very early for my understandinmg of him BUT I havent disagreed with what he has said

Actually liking Lenlo as well.  This may be a sign of the apocalypse.

Just a note for you two, im really tired of being a DM mafia joke. Of people just going "Oh its just Len being Len, ignore him and lets play the game till we lynch him." Feels bad man. So I decided to try and turn that around. I wanna be a player people look forward to playing with, so I decided to cut the crap and play the game. Still get jokes, but im tryin to focus on playin.

Did you forget about me :'(

Sorry :/

Im gonna go ahead and start my ISO of Taborline and maybe throw on in for Celeste/Wish to. I cant place it but im getting the feeling I should do one for them

Yo Len....thats not my thinking, my thinking was just that ure usually more laid back thats all.  Hopefully no offence was caused cause none was EVER meant

Nah that wasnt directed at anyone, no one offended me. Just wanted to explain jokey len who does nothing every game is dead.

Taborline ISO P1/2

I ask for someone who knows Tab better than I do to comment on these as well.

Six pages! Some good breakfast reading

I will take some coffee as well

Blergh

Good idea.

There's white chocolate going around?

Also, white chocolate is not chocolate.

False advertising IMO, lynch white chocolate.

I don't mind having your portions  It's nice to get to play with you this time, Tress!

Just don't leave me out of GIRL TALKS  :madmyrddraal:

I can wear a wig.

I would have been happy living out the rest of my life without knowing this.

Pretty sure he's just hoping to overhear stuff about lingerie or college girl-on-girl experimentation.

I had been going to mention pillow fights, but thought bett- oh, wait, there it is.

Hi Mish!

First six posts are just fluff. We dont get our first real post until pg 23, which is this morning.

is Yates in this game?

He's mentoring some poor soul.

That's me!

Hi Mish <3

Hi Cory

Hi Mish!

Hiya Tab! How's you?

I'm good! Taking notes and trying to catch up. I'm up to Lenlo's ISO of Talya.

I am getting a town vibe from Cory in the wake of the post about preparation time for mafia. If he were scum, why bring that up so early? And his later posts in response to the questioning just seem very innocent, but we'll see. I've not played with him before.

Eld's question re: Loki's win con falls into a similar category, I can't see how his making that comment so soon would make him Loki, but it doesn't clear him in my mind for scum. The votes/suspicion put on him after that moment might be the best lead I gather from events so far but I need to go back and re-read that section (curse you all and your ability to read meta  )

I'm going back in now to keep reading.

For a first game related post, not bad. She touch's on everything which imo shows she is actually trying to catch up and paying attention rather than just picking someone out and trying to train them as some scum will do.

At first I wasn't sure if Sili's confidence was scummy or town to me, but having finished the thread I think town. Sili and Lenlo’s back and forth on page 16 reads town for both, I think. I agree with Sooh that it's early for an ISO, but I don't think it came out of nowhere given that Leelou had already asked Cory for his thoughts on Tal, and Tal asked Leelou for her thoughts.

Ugh I just feel dirty. I don't like having to do the Sisyphus act and I really, really, really would like to do well because I always feel people are at least somewhat relying on me to give it my all and give at least ~moderate strength reads and that's probably just a weird stupid #INFP perception.

I just don't know how to process when people give me a hard time for dumb reasons because then I have to think about why they are doing it and what it means and it just adds a whole new level of cluster to an already complicated and difficult game.

It's Friday, I should be in a better mood.

Hey, I just want to town clear you early.

What are your thoughts on Talya?

Though, thinking on it, it could be a good opportunity for Lenlo to gain some town credit?

This one caught my eye. She says me and Sili's convo looked town on town and that my ISO wasn't out of nowhere, but immediately follows it up second guessing her opinion of me, saying maybe I was just trying to get some town cred. This could be straddling the fence, ready to go whichever direction ends up being more popular. My logic/reasoning may be off but this post didnt sit right with me.

I have to go to a piano lesson right now, but will most definitely take you up on that when I return.

Dips out. Im gonna give her the benefit of the doubt on this cause I dont like to think people would lie about RL stuff just to get away from thread.

Side note: Piano! If only I didnt suck at it.

I look forward to it!

And I am returned! With cramped hands, I had forgotten how difficult correct piano finger posturing is.

Return! Give me opinions! Thoughts! Catch up! Ketchup? That to!

Pressin Leelou for her thoughts on her. Valid thing to do imo with how they were previously interacting

This was one of the few "+s" I had in my notepad for Talya. When her and Leelou were 1v1ing and Leelou started looking for outside opinions, Talya immediately dug in to what Leelou was holding to her nose. I like that for Talya - whom might just leave it alone as a wolf rather than potentially exacerbate the situation - and I like that Lenlo, while mostly digging through Talya and finding it mostly to be fluff and "null" type posting, correctly points out one of the good posts Talya made and credits her. Seems very much like Lenlo is actually trying to read Talya rather than doing an ISO with a foregone conclusion on her alignment, which is something I've caught him doing as a wolf before.

I don't support a lynch on Lenlo today. I'm caught up 100% now on notepad and I'm almost ready to start dropping bombs, etc.

I liked that interaction as well. I'm going to go back and have a look at Leelou's posts as well.

Did we ever get her thoughts that she said she would go back and get?*

No. I'm just wondering where it came from.

As I was going back looking at Leelou's posts, you actually came up as being questionable to me, so I would like to know too!

Still waiting on the Leelou posts. Please explain why Sooh came up questionable, I would prefer clean cut thoughts/quotes/examples than vague statements.

Interesting. Cory hinting at mafia having had the opportunity to talk before the game started, and then Talya immediately suggesting that Sili and I have staged our conversation. That's convenient.

And then Leelou responding "Mhm".

But this only on the basis right now of seeing Leelou as being the scummier of Talya vs. Leelou.

How does Leelou normally play? Reading back I see a lot of off-topic joking posts, helpful posts/answering questions, the vote for Cory, the back and forth with Tal and then the switch to voting for Tal.

Both of her votes look relatively "safe" to me, i.e. voting for Cory because of the 4 day head start post (which is an easy target), and voting for Talya because Talya was pressing her. From the interaction, as I said earlier, I find Tal to actually be leaning more towards town, which makes me read Leelou as being slightly scummier. Then your bringing up that bit against Talya and her agreeing with you could be a scum on scum interaction, trying to frame Tal.

Not a heck of a lot to go on, as you can see, but I don't have a clear town on you from anywhere, which is why I'd like to hear Cory's thought process.

*We got the Leelou thoughts! She delivered! Point for Tab. +1

I like it. Demonstrates she read Leels posts, she caught up and put some thought into it. Didnt just focus on Leelou but on Tal vs Leelou and that whole thing, where as scum would focus on whichever was scummier in the hopes of pushing a lynch.

Bold: Why does leaning town on Tal make Leelou scummier? Why cant it be town on town or scum on scum distancing from one another? Id like you to explain the thoughts behind this when you get back.

Blue: Whats this supposed to mean Sooh? Cory "hinting" at mafia having the opportunity? There was no hinting about it imo. He outright said its a possibility to be wary of and you trying to paint that in a bad light doesnt look good. Please expand on the Talya/Sili thing as well or if you already have direct me to that post. Thank you!

I'm doing my own research on Taborline and comparing her this game to the HP game to see if something hits me

I don't generally ISO players so I just have two of her filters up and I'm scrolling through each side by side (lol)

I forget if there's a more effective way to look through someone's posts in a specific topic rather than just going through their individual post content

Since the game is short I just went page by page. I cant seem to pull off using the search function well :/

Do you guys really want "selfish, antagonistic, pushy douche Cory" 27 pages into a game without a deadline even set?

He doesn't come out until closer to EOD1 because his reads typically improve in accuracy by observing people do things on their own accord, and afaict a lot of people don't mind "carefully observant, directive but encouraging Cory" for awhile before he needs to start ramming the bulldozer through walls to get things accomplished.

I am 100% willing to wake him up and let him take over, mercy on your hapless souls.

Bring it.

Ok. first off, I want to address the attention my Loki wincon comment got. That was completely unexpected. OP of the signup had sample PMs for town and mafia, but not for Loki. I was fully expecting Kivam to keep that info quiet, and was therefore rearing to to talk about it when the game started. And then that was taken away from me, so I commented on it.

It didn't even occur to me that Loki would be annoyed that his wincon was revealed, but that makes sense. The fact that you used that wording means it occurred to you, which makes me suspicious.

Does Eld usually ask questions like these?

Unfortunately, yes. He does it as either alignment.

If he does that as both alignments then I don't get the two votes on him atm. It's like he is just a scummy person in general.

I am. It's annoying. I'm working on filtering what I say, to become a competent player, but I have a long way to go.

Ok, here's your response, Sili. You have a case against me, namely, as I understand, that I have made one relevant but terrible post so far. You can lynch me over it, but I can assure you that would be a mistake. Or you can consider that the post in question was simply a regrettable error. You have this idea that I posted for the sake of activity, but have you entertained the idea that maybe I thought I saw something? Or would you still like to punish me for carelessness? I can't fight that, of course. So why didn't I respond and continue to talk? Perhaps because I recognized that line of thought was in error and saw no value in continuing. But, you say, there are plenty other things I could have commented on by now? Well then. I don't see them. Would you want to lynch me for not seeing the same things you say you do? Or if they're so clear to you, why not enlighten me? I will freely admit I wasn't paying enough attention, if you show me there's what I should have seen. Hm?

I found this line very odd. If you're mafia, this whole speech is pointless because you would say it anyway. If you are town, the bolded seems weird, because you don't know who you are. I think it's supposed to read as you would be a mislynch, but that's not how I see it. It feels like a slip.

What so you didnt receive your character in your PM Eldrick? That would = knowing who you are. and may allow people to say that lynching them would be a mistake.

He's talking PR-wise, obviously.

I meant to put a vote in there....

[v]Ocicat[/v]

Also, early game Sili came off as really weird to me. It was very different than what I expect from him. The only other time that happened was when he was a cop, but this can't be a similar case, because the cop doesn't know they're a cop. I don't know what to do with this information. I'm glad that he has improved recently, though.

Note to Mod:

Is unvoting required?

Kiv's a JNer, and this is same as JN rules, so mostly likely no.

LOL.  Been on this site since the mid-90s (holy *&^%, almost 20 years), and started playing mafia here.  But since I'm the one who brought it to JN, that's cool, too.

Re unvoting: : Unvoting is requested but not required; I'll count your vote even if you forget it, but including "unvote" helps make sure I don't miss that you were already voting and mistakenly leave your vote where it was previously as well.  So please include the unvote.

Pre-this game, and maybe two games from when I played before I don't think I've ever seen you on DM. I glance over JN every once in a while, and I've seen you there more than that. Makes you a JNer in my book. Sue me.

BLUE are people I think are villagers 99%+ of the time.

GREEN are people I think are villagers like 80-90% of the time depending on placement. In the last used I used a darker shade of green for JS and Sili which would put them in, say, a 85-90% bracket.

LIGHT GREEN are people I think are slightly > rand to be villagers. Basically they have done enough things where I would guess they are a villager but it's thin to the point where I'm not comfortable with giving them a strong lean. I am rarely wrong on my blues and greens in general, but a wolf slips into my light greens now and then and I'm aware of it.

GREY are people I think are = rand to me. I have no opinion on these people in correlation to players in a different bracket. They are mysteries.

ORANGE are players who I think are slightly to reasonably > rand to be wolves. I always have players on a draining system of town equity so sometimes null players slip into here depending on thread environment, etc. Really just depends on the way things are going and the level of content and behavior.

RED are players who I think are wolves more than like 70% of the time to just plain old outed wolves. If I have someone in here, you can be damn sure I have a good reason for putting them there.

FYI this is pretty standard DM practice.

stfu lenore

...Cory...

Well, I'm here, after being drained from extroverting.

A few observations:

Sili seems to get serious way too quickly. That just happened in the last game we were playing in. And you wanna know why? He was distancing from me, who was joke voting.

Possible correlations between Ocicat mistake/joke vote and Sili calling him out on it? Perhaps.

I, for one, don't know how Ocicat plays. I'll defer to Alette when trying to read him, but I prefer to assign null (leaning towards scummy) for anyone I don't know well. Lurking and not posting doesn't seem indicative of alignment, and neither does not knowing who is even playing. I make that mistake a lot. But default: *narrows eyes* Null-scummy until you prove yourselves unblemished.

Areas of confusion: don't get drunk Cory.

Possibilities: Eldrich possible Loki because of his disappointment at Kivam revealing Loki win con on thread-> argument espoused by a few, like John Snow.

Does JS drop the argument because Eldrich is too experienced to make that kind of slip? Hmm. Why the focus on Loki? I would think that scum would be more concerned about eliminating Loki than town, as someone previously mentioned.

^My recap, from what I remember.

2nd time your hydra has tried to misrep me. Do it again and I'm lynching you on policy.

IMO the only thing the Eldrick as Loki argument had going for it was that I thought he was newish. Since he's not, I don't buy into it at all.

You're too cute <3 Please favor us with your love.

Please rep yourself properly, then.

I say exactly what I mean. My wording is always precise and careful. On the rare occasion that I misspeak (mistype?), I correct it ASAP. As long as you're bothering to read what I type and not what you want me to type, there should be no issues.

i always think of Tilt as in Pinball. Where u hit the machine too hard and everything froze.  kinda take it as Someones eyes rolling in their head unable to make up from down

That's actually where the poker term comes from

Basically when you "tilt" a pinball machine modern pinball machines will freeze your flippers so that you are basically guaranteed to lose the ball

The idea being that something causes you enough turmoil and frustration that you start to do things that actually increase your chance of losing

Because you know if you start tilting the machine, you are going to lose the ball regardless, but people do it anyway

Cause they're TILTED

Dice gets a brownie knowledge point

Awesome general knowledge. Stored and saved for later.

Tress what's bothering you about Leelou?

She's one of the people I am least confident in keeping in my light green pile and she's a slippery lass and her "trolling me to get a reaction" is definitely a stunt I could see a wolfteam pulling to try and level me (see: Tom in any game where we are w/v) so I'm not confident in just clearing someone because they were willing to go @ me

Would love your take!

2nd time I've seen Leelou in the top % of posters and I don't really remember any meaningful posts from her. I need to reread her, but it's not a great sign.

Of course any mislynch is bad. I could be reading into something that isn't there. It just caught my attention so I brought it up. I'd like to know what other people think about it.
