The Fear.

I have The Fear.

It's the sense of impending doom that can only be elicited by catastrophic impending doom.

Mine is a deadline. A deadline that I have an obscene amount of work to do before.

The other frequent time one may feel The Fear is eloquently explained by the Urban Dictionary:

"The Fear" is the sense that you have done yourself some lasting damage after a night of drinking. It's symptoms are:

- A feeling that you are going to die soon (and not just due to other hangover symptoms);
- A sense that people or organizations are out to get you;
- Angst that you may have offended, inappropriately touched or physically attacked someone the night before;
- Foreboding about the next time you meet the people or return to the bar where you degraded yourself the previous night.

The fear is often accompanied by "The Remorse" where you are also genuinely ashamed and sorry for the way you have behaved, as well as simply frightened for the sake of your own wellbeing.
Concerned Friend: "How are you feeling after last night?"
Sufferer: "I am riddled with The Fear. And cat AIDS."

The Fear. The Fear. The Fear.

Have you ever experienced The Fear?

Yeah, I've pretty much stopped getting decent sleep. But thats been going on for a couple of years now. Constant stress, and the result of having too thin curtains that don't keep the sunlight out in the morning.

I've been through the working the night before the deadline thing many times, and I'm really really keen to avoid doing it again. Horrible business.

Still got 17 days though. Still have time to avoid that repellent experience.

I finished my dissertation at 9pm on the morning it was due to be handed in - and had to hitch a ride on the stationers' truck, from the copy shop to the university to hand it in on time.

You can't do that.

So - compartmentalise and target. Split up what you need to do and ONLY do the bit you need to on that day.

And sleep - even if it's day naps.

Not sleeping will make everything worse.
