Memes, GIFs and Spoilers - A simple courtesy

I don't have a problem whatsoever with a mod choosing to put a specific rule into one of their games.

 

This thread wasn't meant for one game tho. It was def implied that it was a desired site-wide effect.

 

And the game you're referring to, the player should have either let everyone know his comp was having difficulty loading the gifs or spoken to the mods first. Subbing out immediately was a poor choice.

 

In general people subbing out way too quickly for sometimes dubious reasons is one of my biggest pet peeves in mafia. It's a complete disservice to the mods and all the rest of the players. Yet some here are all too quick to pull that "Replace me!" trigger.

 

 

The worst is when someone acts like they're taking the high road or doing something noble when they sub out at the first sign of distress instead of resolving the issue out of thread like most people do. That just makes my blood boil.

@ I understand the problem that a few players here seem to have. I however think that it's a bit self centered and dismissive to demand of everyone else to not use any gif's or images if they can just easily turn them off themselves. The problem that comes with spoilering gifs is that gifs aren't nearly as fun then, and a lot of the time people actually use spoiler tags to hide relevant game information so their cases don't become swamped with quotes. I also think that everyone here is mature enough to respect the site's PG 13 rules and if someone oversteps the line then I'm sure others will call him out for it and ask him to edit his post. A mod doesn't have to see all the images, and if he has to make a judgement call he can turn the images on again for a page or so to see what's up.

I think spoilering gifs is a reasonable response to a reasonable request, however I don't think there needs to be any sort of site-wide thing about it. If I know others might post gifs as well or I'm posting a few, I spoiler em. If I haven't seen any for a while I prob with think about that tho, and I don't think posting unspoilered gifs should be considered a feux pas.

I think the quoting someone and responding within their quote is a heck of a lot worse personally.

Especially when a few people start it and then it's multicolored and you have no clue who was responding.

 

I almost never read those kinds of posts anymore.

I usually tell the person talking to me if they want me to read it they should change it.

I've gotten into a few tiffs over it in D&D.

I'm sorry but I'm no longer going to give myself a headache trying to figure out who said what when the quote system (kind of) works.

I don't really understand why people do it tbh.

I mean they could copy/paste and use quotation marks even and that would be easier to read.

Especially if multiple people jump in and start using different colors and such.

The last time I really dealt with that IIRC was Wombats Star Wars game on Myndjack.

After that I said never again and I've pretty much stuck to that.

As far as I can recall, I subbed out a single time (Thrawn game). I had a very good reason to do so and everything has been tried to solve the situation.

 

I don't want to go into any details, but basically, my relation with anotger player happened to be so bad that there was no way to have that not affect the integrity of the game. Apparently, we shouldn't have joined the game both.
