Cheers all, I've been reading through these boards for the past day or two, and figured that I might as well introduce myself, as you've got a forum made for just that.

In any case, I'm gonna give you a story, just a short one, one that explains my my name.

Barmacral = Barm, Barmy, Drunk Fish, Noob, whatever other names there are out there.

Where'd it come from? Bar-Macral

Bar: This I got from Guy Gavriel Kay's book Tigana. A man's name would have Bar in it just before his fathers name, and a woman's name would have Bren. For example, in the Tigana world, Rand Al'thor would actually be Rand Bar Tam di Tigana or something like that.

Macral: Naturally, World of Warcraft doesn't allow spaces in your character's name, so I simply made the various names one word, such as barsandre, barallesan, bartuon and so on. But then one day I was creating a new character, and I kinda hit a block on what name to use next, and barmacral just randomly came into my head.

Well, one server later I'm running around in Orgrimmar when I suddenly get a random tell from a random person whom I had never really interacted with before...

"Hey! I figured out what your name means!"

"Hmm?"

"Drunk Fish: Bar means getting drunk, and Macral is a mispelled Makrel(sp?), which is a fish; Therefore it tmust mean that you drink like a fish."

"Uh... it didn't mean that until about 30 seconds ago"

I went on and explained the real deal to him, and we've certainly gotten along really well since then.

Now a bit of history on what I know of WoT. I've read every book in the series several times (I think I'm up to 10 times reading the series as a whole) except for book 11, which I've only read once, and have since lent it out to my family, so that I can't reread it yet. I have read the prequal and his BWB as well. About the extent of any further knowledge on the series I've gotten from Jordan's Q&A section on the TOR site, and from what I've read here in the last day or so.

On a side note, as I've read through these forums, I've decided that while I know what an ORG is, I don't know what most of them actually do. Perhaps if you guys could get a list of what each one does compiled into a single thread, so that I don't have to find one sticky to discover the Illuminator's purpose on a different forum from their own, and a random thread in another forum (not the wolfkin forum) to find out what the wolfkin do, and so on.

Barm

Edit: Fixing spelling and gramatical errors, will probably reedit later for the same reason.

Welcome. I am apparently the Fiddlestocks Rep. I wouldn't want to you to come to DM and not see the great town of Fiddleton.

Fiddlesticks is a place to go and have fun. Not a lot of serious stuff happens there. We play a game Called Werewolf, you may know it better as Mafia. I think there is a new game starting so if you hurry you maybe able to sign up. But other than that most everyone just goofs around.

Also, you seem to be fairly well versed in the books. There are two discussion boards for WoT. There is a "General Discussion" and a "Structured Discussion." In the General make your own threads, post your own theories debate other peoples theories, let us know what you think. In the Structured board there are set topics that can be disccused, and there is a thread there for you to post on if you want a new thread.

 I think you may have just coaxed out one of the largest post from me ever. Anyways, welcome again. Enjoy DM!

Uncle Empy got what the Band does correctly - music and travel. So if you love either, why not join in the fun? We do an anwful lot, whether it be on DM, or on our offboard site, where we discuss our music and travels.

Oh, and did I mention we have loads of freebies?? If you join up, I'll give you a Goldeneyes cuddly toy to look after, as we have too many at the moment!

:D Yay... good to see everyone piling in to tell you all about the Orgs and other places. Welcome to the mad world of Dragonmount, Barmacral :D I see you have had a look at one or two places already 8)

Funny you should mention an info thread of that kind as it is my pet project at the moment... and you are actually the first person to request such a thing. Anyway... it is nearing completion and should be up there soon!

One website I only found out about through this place is http://www.encyclopaedia-wot.org/ ...totally indespensable when you need to find stuff for the discussions on the WoT boards.

Have a great time and shout if you want to know more about any place...

...by the way... don't worry too much about spelling and grammar... a lot of us have english as a second language and mistakes will be forgiven... it doesn't look like you need a lot of forgiveness in any case

Hey! Welcome! I will speak for the Aiel Org. We're a laid-back bunch of people, we enjoy our sweat tents and oosquai! But we can be serious as well; each month we have a discussion about books and/or current events. We're a small Org, but we have the fiercest warriors and cutest Wise Ones.
