hopped on last night to see some friends taking a final stab at Kingslayer before the end of Wrath. They dragged me along for pally healing. On what was the announced final attempt, we blew through him with two deaths, one of which was battle rezzed. I felt good for them. It was my third Kingslayer title, but for many of them it was their first time, and for one person it was her first time seeing the fight. We hit 10% on the Lich King as I cast the last spell I could cast...I had 64 mana left at that point and was out of regen tricks.

Then, because my daughter wouldn't sleep without someone in attendance, I grabbed about 2/3 of a level in Mt Hyjal on my horde druid. Spawn competition is fierce. I had to stop when I ran across a group that were flagged and camping a named spawn that a bunch of people needed to kill to complete a quest. Chain-casting AoE's to be sure it was tagged first, and then taking down anyone who tried to fight back. Kinda sucked, 2 moonkin, a healy shaman a couple of pallies and I didn't see what else. Not enough people interested in being organized to blow them away and get the mob, so I hearthed. Hate crap like that.

I'd have helped you if I could, Emp. :( The group that got the kill last night is one I've been helping and coaching after a fashion for months. I'd written it off, actually. I had just logged in to get my things in order for Cataclysm, as it were and they pounced. We usually raid Friday or Saturday night, not Monday.

I know it's a bummer, but I hope that the cool factor of all the new stuff will take the edge off that for you. I got to see all of the new zones and a lot of the new content in beta and I really like it, mostly, though the Forsaken can take a long walk off a short pier.

Cata report:

So I took my main, the priest, out for a ride in the wonderful new world.

Flying over stormwind was amazing. Trying to figure out where to go was hard... because I started in Dalaran. Thank god Xex was on to tell me to go to SW to prompt the starter quest.

I hate questing. This new underwater area would be awesome to explore if EVERY PERSON on the realm wasn't trying to do the same quests as me. Finding those 4 SW helms took forever!!! I waited at the Warden for about 15 minutes before I realized I didn't have an aoe to pull the aggro to me over the 100 other people waiting on him to respawn.

I decided to find the entrance to the Tides Instance. Getting there was fun... getting out was a little harder. You gotta talk to a npc but if someone hadn't told me that I would have been lost in there for days (would have hearthed). When I finally queued into the instance I was excited. An unknown dungeon... it has been a long time since I didn't know what the expect. Luckily one person in our party seemed to know what was going on and, while we had a few deaths, we made it through without wiping. I haven't used that much mana in a long time.

I made it to 80% to 81. My only regret is that I am not getting stuff for SG guild. I am tempted to slide back over.. but the other guild already has cata runs on their calendar....

they do? dang, and here i am doing low level quests and leveling up my archeology

I think Friday they have a cata raid on their calendar. Other than leveling mining while I quest, I am unconcerned about leveling professions at this point.

for me, racing to 85 sort of defeats the point. The zones are cool, they've worked hard on the lore and making a more unified questing experience in each zone so that you see a logical progression. I've zoomed through Hyjal, true enough, but that's the one zone I quested out pretty well when I was in beta. Also spent time in Vash'jir, but from an RP standpoint (that's how my guild runs) Hyjal is more important for my toon so that's where I went. I'll slow down as I hit Uldum and Deepholm, neither of which I really went all that deeply into, but I also have 5 other characters I want to level and that's not including a goblin or a worgen.

I also hit Throne of the Tides last night. That last fight was wild. Only had one death (the healer didn't move out of something on a trash pull), fairly smooth, but pretty different. Looking forward to seeing Blackrock Halls and the rest. One thing I didn't do in beta was instance much.

After all the wiping I did on the Lich King since March, I am perfectly fine with a break in the wipage. :D

I don't think there is an intro quest from Org or Stormwind. The easiest way I know of is to get to Moonglade. Near the Cenarion Circle flightmasters (these are the two guys that only druids can use in Nighthaven) there is a questgiver who directs you to climb onto the nearby green dragon and head up to Hyjal. You start at Nordrassil and work your way down the mountain - the effect is of holding off and then pushing back the attack from the very roots of the world tree. Since I'm a druid (twice) this is easy. :D Ymmv, but I really do prefer Hyjal to Vash'jir. Vash'jir is cool and unlike anything else, but I'm a bit of a lore junkie Hyjal is where it's at.

Canuk and I moved back to SG guild last night. It was kind of tough leaving Dragons as I liked most of the guys... but I have them on my friends list and if they do a LK run I am sure they will invite me. Ironically I made the move once I had enough rep with them to move to the next level.

My friend from work hit 80 last night so we have another person that could do raids. Even if we do not have 10 to do Cata runs we could still knock out LK runs, especially if a few of us are 85.

Cat said her bro is coming back soon. She said she would also chat with FDM about coming back. We could be on our way to a solid 10 man team, especially if we can grab other dmers that are in other guilds like Verbal and Claire.

Also, with me in the raid group, you'll get to see my impression of Leeroy Jenkins!

Its Legend - wait for it! - ary!!

I'm kidding about that Leeroy Jenkins thing though. Seriously. I don't wipe raid groups. Honest!

We all wipe raid groups! Just most of us don't do it intentionally... >.>

I have been known to yank an extra mob or three into a fight in progress to judge the ability to react of a group I'm in. That didn't work so much in Wrath since the tanks would just tank many things, everyone would AoE and the healer would spam their best heals without ever running out of mana. It's a bit more of a test now though.

Ok I have played every zone except Hyjal and am almost to 85 (40% xp left to go). Here are my observations.

- I have about 40K more mana now (more than double). The only new spell I have learned is Mind Spike... which is awesome btw. But I burn through it way to fast. I have healed two of the new instances and I had to sit down between EVERY mob to mana up. Sure sure... the instances are tougher... I have to heal more... but I have almost 70K mana!!! Ok... so the spells cost more mana now.. cool. They should also increase in heals too. Yet my flash heal (main heal) is healing about the same... actually less cause my crit is down. My spell power has even doubled and it doesn't make a difference.

- Uldam was fun. I liked it much better than waterworld. Trying to find stuff up, down and all around is a pain sometimes. Deepholm was ok but I barely remember it. Twilight is ok so far. I really dislike questing. I am not a lore guy. I don't play this game because of the story. I play to interact with other people. This is why I like instances and raids. Every quest is either gathering 10 of this or killing 15 of this.. and occasionally using something to kill 50 of something. I would have liked to see some more originality.. soemthing new in questing.

- The weekly cap for gaining guild XP is bogus. I probably hit that in my first few hours questing on Tuesday. I hear they might be changing this though.

- I wonder how long the AH can substain the high prices on new items. I have already seen a big drop in old items. Until then I will rake in the cash. I probably made 2K over the weekend... and spent about 1K on leveling JC.

- I wonder if I can go tank a LK instance as my priest. I have twice as much Health as my 80 pally. I know... I have no armor or dodge... just a fun thought.

- Instances. I really like most of them so far. Usually I party with at least one person that has done it before. I have only wiped once... and I believe that was in Stonecore (if that is the one with like 100 followers). Tides is quite fun and Vortex was REALLY hard to heal. It kind of sucks that once you hit 84 you cant do Blackrock or Tides in a random. I look forward to doing Halls of Ob soon.

I like the lore, so I don't mind questing. Where questing gets me is on the third, fourth or fifth time through (I have 5 80s and a 70). I enjoyed this round of it far more than I did BC or vanilla, both of which were interminable, and probably a bit more than Wrath though that's hard to say with total objectivity - I was bored out of my skull at wrath by the time Cataclysm went live.

Haven't done Halls of Origination or Blackrock Caverns yet. I've only done dps because the other primary tank in the guild leveled and geared a lot faster. I think I enjoyed Grim Batol most, oddly enough, though it was the most painful one I've done thus far. Part of that undoubtedly was due to our total lack of experience with it though. We wiped once each on the second and third bosses.

I don't mind a weekly cap for guild rep, but they made it way too low.

I quested out both Hyjal and Vash'jir completely before moving on. I did maybe a quarter of Deepholm before I went on, got tired of spawn competition. I'm about halfway through Uldum currently. Just did the Twilight Highlands intro, which from Horde side anyway is pretty cool. I need to go back and play it ally side sometime.

Archaeology is the new vanilla WoW fishing: incredibly time consuming, have to move around a lot to collect items for it and without the side bar of helping another secondary profession as fishing does. I've heard there is some cooler stuff down the road, but the slog to 100 or whatever is interminable.

Well, I'm going much slower than Emp, lol. I'm only 81, and about halfway to 82. I have started in Vash, and I recently jumped to Hyjal to check it out. I plan on questing both of them out before moving on. Actually, I plan on questing out all of Cataclysm (or as much as possible).

I'm also down for LK runs soon....maybe once I hit 83 I'll be fine. I've been leveling as Elemental Shammy, and my God but I love it. In Wrath I just raided Resto and never DPSed. That will change in Cata - I now have a talent to convert spirit to hit and therefore much of my Resto gear will overlap my Ele gear. Sweet. I'll still heal primarily, but will definitely be switching once in a while to keep things interesting and fun.

I'm also going to be spending more time leveling alts (like a goblin) and professions (like cooking/fishing) and less time just raiding. It was a drain to go through the ICC runs with wiping over and over again. That will burn me out too fast if it happens again in Cata, so I'm hedging my bets with a lot of other activities to go for.

Got my character back, have 'most' of my items, however they sold my elite Epic 2h weapon. (BASTARDS)

Coulda swore I completed the epic set from BC but dunno.

I made lvl 73, just kinda walking around, I didn't even know I leveled.

Btw, I thought you got 1 talent point every level?

SD, they did a total talent revamp in Cataclysm. Now you get a talent point every other level (odd levels to reflect an odd-numbered level cap) and you don't have to train new levels of spells - they level up with you.

Basically they removed a lot of talents, which thinned out the trees, and redesigned the remaining ones so you don't need so many talent points.

Dinged 85 last night on the exploration of Twilight Highlands. That makes all but BC where I've done that. :)
