Cata changes are taking forever...

 

Was supposed to be up at 11am PST, then they pushed it back to 1PM PST, now to 5PM PST...

 

This is the kind of thing which could kill my fledgling addiction...!

 

I mean, 5PM PST is fine for everyone in the PST time zone, but I'm on EST damnit! I'm 4 hours ahead! It'll be 8pm before I get to check out the new changes, and NCIS will be on then! I am resigned to the fact I may get no WoW time tonight... all those new things to see, and lava pits to pee in... and I won't get to do it until tomorrow!

 

Anyways... maybe come the Cata release, I will roll an alt on Earthen Ring and romp around there a bit.

as you wish. :) My time ally side is a bit more freeform than it is horde side - I'm nominally the GM of my RP guild at the moment, so I keep pretty busy when I'm there - but I know more people horde side and in general I like the atmosphere there better.

 

One thing as a new player you may not be aware of is that Blizzard routinely underestimates the amount of time it will take to get a major patch up and running, and it usually takes a day or so for all of the servers to become fully functional and stable again. By that I mean we'll likely be online at some point this evening, but the servers are likely to be laggy and prone to crashes at odd intervals. This is exacerbated by the sheer number of people that will be checking it out. The day 3.0 landed (that was the patch that introduced all of the Wrath of the Lich King stuff prior to the launch of that expansion), the servers were pretty much broken for more than 24 hours.

 

So, when you see major content patches like this, assume 5 pm server as an absolute best case for any playability at all, and assume the following day for full functionality. It's annoying, but you learn to adapt to it, since the game as a whole is actually pretty good, the loudness of the whiners and whingers not withstanding.

Xex - Dunno, I can go back and look at it when I log in tonight but I am fairly certain I saw no one at 9K. Doesn't really matter... like I said dps isnt our problem. Sure more would be wonderful, but if we pay attention to defile we have this thing beat.

What is your priority for your pally? I gotta be way off as my dps sucks. I do much more in my prot spec cause avenger shield is op.

Emp: I had to go look this up because the priority list changed in 4.0.1 and as I said, I'm primarily a pally healer and haven't specced ret in months. According to one website, the level 80 priority list looks something like this: Hammer of Wrath (when available) > Templar's Verdict (TV) > Crusader Strike > Judgment > Exorcism (only with an Art of War proc to make it instant, other wise don't cast it) > Holy Wrath > Consecrate. It changes up at 85. Strength is far and above your best primary stat. Hit is the most important to the cap, then Expertise to soft cap, and after that it's probably Haste to the soft cap; uncertain as the coefficients for figuring the values have been in flux. That all might change next week.

 

Take that with a grain of salt; these things are a bit of a moving target at the moment. Since I haven't specced ret in so long I don't know how TV works, but I suspect it's something to do with Holy Power that you generate and it might be best used whenever you have 3 holy power stored. Ret pallies are very much a whack a mole game, but it's more complex now than it was. The standard wrath list for most of the expansion was so simple that with no practice at all and geared mostly in crafted iLevel 200 blues and purples I did almost 2700 dps and this is a bit harder.

 

Don't forget Avenging Wrath on every cooldown; it's ok to save it for Heroism unless it will cost you a usage of it during the fight. Basically, 2 AW's are > 1 AW on steroids over the long haul. I'll have to dig into what glyphs are good now; I suspect Seal of Truth is probably one you really want but I'm so out of touch on the rest I really don't know.

I've done some more digging and whoa, the QQ from the pallies is horrific. It's hard to dig out solid information at this point that isn't wrapped in whining, whinging, hyperbole and outright lies. Don't go digging through the class forums and the like without heavy protection from high toxicity.

 

Basically, though, rets got a nerf in 4.0.3a that is aimed at making them not massively OP at 85. So your numbers probably are a bit lower than you'd like.

Damnit Emp, just spec Holy and be the meat healer.

 

I'm quite enjoying it myself, actually. When you arent healing, Exorcism things! Nice chunks of damage and the mana cost isn't too bad. Just beef your Intelligence and Spirit up so you can cast longer. Makes you one hell of a beast.

 

Hell, when things are attacking me from healing too much, I just heal people some more and I get healed for my troubles! Its pretty sweet.

 

I've gotta say... I am liking the changes to the pally class since the last I played!

Ello, new to DM but LONG time WoW player. :D Haven't played my pally much since the major patch as he isn't my main. Main is my Warrior, Warder-Alliance- lvl 80 :p

If I am going to heal, I will roll out my priest. I am not too terribly interested in pally healing. But I may look into it... but that means getting all new healing gear and I am still working on getting tanking gear.

Got my priest's GS up to 5582 and it is funny the improvement I see in healing. My flash heal is hitting for upwards of 20K. I would tell you what my greater heal is doing but I never have to use it. Looking forward to seeing how I dps. At this point I am going to try to get some dps gear.

Our window to down the LK with our normal group has gotten considerably smaller. Varju probably won't be picking up Cata, so that leaves us with a couple of weeks (barely) with him at the helm.

If he doesn't grab Cataclysm he will still be able to go all of the existing Azeroth, Outland and Wrath stuff. He just won't be able to access the new dungeons or the new zones - Hyjal, Vash'jir, Uldum, Twilight Highlands and Deepholm - or roll one of the new races. Of course, the rest of you may be too busy leveling to go back at that point...

Seeing as I have gained like 7 lvls in the past 4 or 5 days, I think I'll manage to hit 80 before Cata comes out.

Same here, Van. And, leveling from 71-80 just got reduced by something like 20% so you'll get to 80 quicker than in the past. Good times for getting ready for Cata.

For me (my toon is Verbal), my EST times are around 9:45pm through midnight-ish. I haven't been on in a while, though due to vacation and then being too sick to sit up straight. I'm better now, but just lazy.

 

That, and loving a replay of Final Fantasy 1 via my Wii Virtual Console. O_o

I am eastern. I am on most nights from 5pm to 9pm.. depending on what my wife is up to and if we have shows to watch. I am on every Saturday and Sunday morning from like 8am to 10/11 am... and then sporadically throughout the day. Friday's I can be seen on from 12pm - 6pm.. depending if I have a half day or not.

 

As for others..

 

FDM just had a baby and said she would return in a few weeks.

Mindstomp/Lowell is my friend from work and is on quite often. He is almost 78.

Aust said he would return with Cata but is generally never on.

Xexah is on quite often.

Mazzy has like 10 alts or something and is on quite often.

Nighteyes will be on soon. He and I have been talking via email and he plans to return with cata. He may have 1 or 2 others that will come with him.... which our guild needs.

Silver is on sporadically.

Carwyn is on a few times a week but I presume she will be back full force with cata. Her bro lost his job so kind of disappeared.

Verbal is a night hawk.

 

We are in need of tanks and healers in our guild. Canuk can tank but doesn't like it. I can tank or heal.. but not both.. and prefer healing. Other than that we have like 200 hunters, 2 pallies and 2 mages.

 

 

LK run last night was a disaster. Ok I may have caused the death of our tank once by not cleansing the plague fast enough but other than that we had trouble getting to phase two. It helps when you have more than one ranged dps. I think we will attempt again once we are all higher in cata.

Assuming I can stay awake that long I'm gonna hit an instance or two right after Cata goes live. I did the digital upgrade, so I'm ready to go.

 

Some really disturbing and really touching stuff in the new Horde questing. Haven't done any new ally questing yet. I'm leveling a holy cow (paladin) atm plus I've done some things on my druid main. While I don't really like new Azshara, the new questline there involving Azuregos was full if win and awesome.

Well, if tanking is really needed, I guess I will go through with rolling a Worgen Warrior tomorrow with Cata. I'm rockin' the Zygor Level Guide addon, so leveling is ridiculously fast.
