"Have you seen this before?" the nobleman asked, proferring what looked to be a twisted piece of metal.  Ewin had no idea what it had been.

 

"I can't say that I have, my lord, what was it?" Ewin asked, wiping the day's sweat off his forehead.

 

"Master McGregor, I think you're lying to me." the nobleman replied, arching an eyebrow and stepping closer.

 

"My lord, I assure you I would do no such thing," Ewin hastily explained.  "Clearly you are on the King's business.  I would not lie to the King's agent."

 

"Yes yes, spare me your denials.  You will be taken to the Tower.  The gaolers will get the truth out of you."

 

Ewin screamed and tried to push past the nobleman.  He knew he wouldn't survive the Tower.  He had to get away.  The nobleman let himself be shoved aside but no sooner was Ewin past him than he felt a sharp pain in his back.  He crumpled to the floor and prayed that the next strike would kill him quickly.  It did.

As for myself, I thought the cop claim was bogus during my catch-up, so I'm with you there and can't fault anyone for thinking that.  The bus driver claim should have raised some eyebrows.  This is the 2nd time I've seen town fake-claim a PR, catch heat, and flip town.
