Dante's Inferno

So, I have an idea for a game, but I am unsure where to sign up, or where to post my idea, but I would like some feed back.

23 players. 7 teams of 3 scum each, each one representing a different level of Hell. 1 Survivor/Vigilante x-shot, Dante himself, 1 Survivor/Cop, Vergil, and 1 Survivor/Doc, Beatrice.

(Yes, I know, Dante's hell had Nine levels, but I feel that Limbo and Heresy don't merit teams :P)

Scum teams would be 3 goons, no PR. However, each team would have a group NA, fitting the theme of their layer of hell.

Teams would have to choose between this NA, or using their NK. However, a team can only actually kill a player from an adjacent layer of Hell.

So, if the 3rd layer team tries to NK a player from level 7, the NK automatically fails. Each night, each Town player MUST select a Level of Hell to descend/ascend to, opening them up to possible NKs. They are the only ones that move. In essence, instead of the Town hunting scum, it's the scum Hunting Town.

All characters would be given Diabolical names, even Dante and Vergil, so that claiming has no effect on the game, since there are countless demons

in the mythos. Cop investigations reveal the layer of Hell a person is from. Days One, Two, and Three would have 2 lynches, days after would have 1.

What do people think. Feedback, is this something you would play, where do I sign up, etc. etc.

PM Verbal to be added to the queue.

Also I'm not sure this could possibly be balanced.

7 NKs per night possibly? Maybe 8?

That's a slaughterfest. I'm not sure that there's much of a point to actually having a day phase with that many teams and kills.

How is anyone supposed to figure anything out without using a power?

I dunno. I'm not a big fan of "faction" games in the first place so maybe I'm being too harsh on this.

It's a cool theme idea though. If the setup was different I might be interested in playing.

Hmmmmm interesting...

The NK's would be mitigated SOMEWHAT by the fact that the Scum have a limited range to choose from (only people in adjacent levels of hell) but it still might be too powerful....

perhaps if you eliminate or limit NK's entirely and focus on the level-specific powers that the mafia teams have?

what are the victory conditions for the Hell teams? do they have to kill each other as well to win?

Sorry, Verbal. You're right of course. I was half asleep when I had this idea, and didn't do as much research as I should have.

@Nolder, concerning slaughterfest - Would an alternating system work? On odd number nights, only certain teams can NK, while others have to use a Power? Also, I have to assume there would be some overlap, some teams picking a target on a Layer outside their reach, and that the benefit of the power makes it a viable NA. So for, I am thinking Team Protect (just what it sounds like), Team Reflect, Layer Spoof (make Cop think you are Town as well) ATM. Maybe a "Granny" team, that isn't allowed an NK.

@Hoof - Hell wins when the invading mortal souls have been destroyed, and trapped in a layer of Hell permanently. If interest was high enough, I might actually add Limbo or Heresy as scum teams, providing the town a safe Faction claim, and since I would mix it up, no one would know which levels are "real".

As Layers are completely destroyed, those Layers are "purged" and can no longer be travelled to by town, or count for calculating another Layer's range. Town's win condition is simply survival, as the escape from the Inferno is the goal.

The Vig has the same range on his NK as the scum, so he needs to move. The Town Doc Role might be underpowered, as he will probably self-protect, as scum outnumber Town, his odds of covering scum are VERY high. However, protecting scum keeps more targets in the game, so that could be good.

Well, the initial set-up has the mortals as Town, and there are only three of them. But I guess, calling them "Scum" changes nothing.

However, I wanted to keep the Demons "Scum", as they can communicate with their own faction.

What if I gave ALL factions the ability to communicate, and gave Town a "Group NA" that only works if they are on the same Layer?

Call it Salvation - They can convert a Demon to Town.

It seems that the Number of NK's is the imbalancing factor. A focus on The Layer Specifc Powers is plausible. Only the Mortals have an NK, due to their VIg...

If no NK happens, they could have targeted a protected Demon, or Saved one of the Demons. If the NK happens, you know the Cop also made a read...

Thoughts?

Well, you could do what I did for a similarish game I haven't ran yet and probably never will.

Just don't give all the mafia teams kills. I can PM you the setup if you want so you can see how I did it.

Wombat has a good idea- make all the Demon town mason teams and the humans the mafia team.

That would do away with the problem of too many NK's.

Also make sure that the humans have a good fakeclaim

You could also have the humans as an alternating kill/recruit cult of sorts, killing and "salvationing" demons.

That's what I did with Indy.

Mafia Team does not equal Bad Dudes - they are the Informed Minority, who can work together to try and overcome the Town Team - who are the Uninformed Majority.

Being able to work together as a team is how they are -sometimes- able to overcome the higher numbers of their opponent(s)
