It wasn't supposed to be this way. He'd laid the trap carefully; whispering in ears here, planting evidence there...never before had any of his schemes been traced back to him. It had to be a clever foe who had figured out the game. And even cleverer to have tied the noose so neatly about Petyr's own neck. He stepped back into the shadows as a sudden ringing sounded directly in front of the door. It was the sound of a sword clearing a scabbard. Frantically he began spouting a lie. Anything that could get him out of this situation would help, right? But the time for words was over and he gulped as a sword sped toward his neck. It sliced through cleanly and the liar's head fell to the carpet.
