still currently in the school term, term three to be exact. ends in three weeks I think, then a short 12 day holiday and back for term four which'll end on the 7th December I think.

and at the end of the fourth term I write the exams whose marks I send off to uni. joy.

*highfives Smileh* we have four "terms" too!

Our schoolyear started as it always did on the first of Feb...my bday  But anyway! We have practice exams right now and the real ones mid-end November. After which I'll be pretty much done forever (O.o) although it offitially ends on le 7th too...

Hey, i wonder why we haz the same system as South Africa!? Is it because we're such great rugby buddies? *snigger*

I think Trimesters would be three periods of schooling a year? Semesters are two right?

Over here we general have 3 terms a year, with full and half term holidays. Generally no one has to go to school for more than 6 weeks without have a week off.

When I was a uni, we still had our three terms, but my course was split into semesters, so halfway through second term I would have exams and then change onto the new stuff.

school started for me later in September, and then it was holiday after holiday right away so it was easier to acclimate.

I felt real bad for them kids waiting for the bus last week. and that was before I saw the bear. but I think he was content with whatever food he snagged off that porch cause woulda heard if a kid got mauled.

Hrm since this is a back to school thread, I've been wondering, this is my first time at a school and I have to wear this uniform that is sooo incredibly hidious. Light blue shirt, dark blue pants/shorts and veri veri baggy. So iz curious what you people'z uniforms look like, if you have one that is...if not, then lucky you

I never understood girls wearing ties for school. I mean, if it is to get you used to wearing worky type clothes once you go to work, then girls won't wear ties. It's stupid.

Even primary schools wear uniforms here now ... And my son's nursery is introducing little polo shirts for them to wear - but it is optional. I may have to get one for my youngest too though, so he don't feel all left out.

I'm a believer in school uniforms. Studies show it cuts down on school violence and crime, clique activity, makes the dress code far easier to enforce, and helps instill values and discipline in kids. Don't get me wrong, I would have rebelled against it while I was in school, but from my vantage point it's better for society so kids can grunt and bear it

Where do you live again? Does your neighborhood get frequented by bears very often?

rural PA, and yes, we have bears. fine shiny fat black bears, looking real good this fall, it's been an excellent season. they might have to extend the hunt.

I have no idea when the national schools start in this area other than around this time - might be tomorrow. My son is starting school tomorrow, but he is being homeschooled, so yep...

That's awesome!

You should tell him to bring his teacher an apple

Unless of course you don't like apples...

I am not going to be teaching him - his mother is, since he lives with her. When he comes to stay with me, I will teach him things, too, though .
