End Of ToM question

Hey folks,

I apologize if this has been answered already, but I want to see some speculation on the topic, or even a definitive answer if it exists. There will be TofM spoilers below, so read at your own risk.

After Thom and Matrim rescue Moiraine from the Finn Realm, they are having their happy campfire chat, in which, Moiraine mentions something that caught my eye and made me wonder. She says something along the lines of, "There was a man there. He woke me and told me I was not the one he was looking for.".

Does anyone know for sure who this man was and why he was in the Tower? My first thought was that it was one of the Forsaken looking to reclaim the body of Lanfear, but, would that even be nessicary, as Shai'tan could just claim her body from the grave once she passed. I don't know if there are any special circumstances that would have applied to her given that they were in a different world, but I suppose it is possible.

If that wasn't the reason that one of them would have showed up, we would have to be led to assume that they were there to bargain for something. There's also the possibility that it wasn't one of the forsaken at all. I'd have to think that one of the Forsaken would likely know Moiraine by sight, so there would be no need to wake her to try and identify her.

If anyone could shed some light on this for me, I would be incredibly grateful. Thanks!

Personally I think it was Slayer sent to reclaim Lanfear. We know through Perrin that Slayer is able to enter ToG. That, and I think you are right luvan; the Forsaken would know of the importance of Moiraine. Slayer on the other hand may not; if he was told to grab Lanfear and thatsb it, then its likely he would have just dismissed Moiraine.

I also remember that scene where Perrin sees Lord Luc entering the tower, so I think your conclusion is accurate. I believe it is also in this same scene just moments before that Birgette is talking to Perrin in the world of dreams, how come Hopper is unable to see Birgette? He thinks Perrin was talking to the wind, and was asking him what he was stairing at. Did anyone ever comment on that?

i am also thinking either Slayer or moridin.

however, moiraine might know what Luc looked like, and she might have said something, plus she was aware of the Dark Prophecy in tGh.

and perrin thought slayer went in the ToG, he could just have shifted himself, making perrin believe he went in, at that point Perrin didn't have the same ability in the dream world as he does in ToM.

so i would say moridin is more likely.

Odds are it was either Slayer or Moridin. I can see Moridin going to try and grab Lanfear- another captured Chosen to Mindtrap along with Cyndane and Moggy. I can also see Moiraine being 'beneath' his notice.

I dont. Moridin is a smart one. He would have done something to Moiraine at least. No way would he have let that moment pass him by when he has one of his enemies greatest allies in hand.

Cyndane IS Lanfear, but I agree that it was Slayer or Moridin, and if it was Slayer he was on a mission for Moridin, and I doubt which particular one retrieved her mattered, all we know is that they are also likely the one who destroyed the portal out of the Snake realm.

I suspect whatever deal was made did not include Moiraine in any sense, he had only made a deal to collect one, not to kill the other, and I suspect the Finn's would be unwilling to let her go (in any way) for anything short of a very steep price that Moridin would simply not be concerned enough to pay.

There was no need to do anything about Moiraine. He destroyed the last door, which was the usual way in or out. I doubt the Finns would have let her go once they had her. Maybe he even made it part of some deal - you keep Moiraine here and I'll..... what?

There's a thought, what did Moridin do to get Lanfear out?

Threaten with TP? or something else?

Or, simply make a bargain like everyone else?

I can't be the first person to have thought of that question, if there's a thread could someone point me in the right direction?
