The last three books

ok so i got introduced to WoT series like three years ago and i have read the first 11 several times but i have always been put-off of reading the brandon sanderson's editions to the series. Not that brandon isn't a good writer ( he is actually very talented IMO) i have read several of his books and they are all enjoyable but the fact remains, in my eyes atleast, is that RJ is the best author EVER!!!!! the WoT series is so complex that i can't see anybody actually being able to finish the series like RJ could have. I just don't want the series to end off with something other than greatness, i would rather just leave off with book 11 and call it quits, however i am dying to know how this series ends.... so am i going to think less of this series if i read the ones by Brandon Sanderson?

I find the last 2 books very enjoyable. The pace is a little faster than RJ:s, but thats a necessity to get to the ending. Of course the really hardcore readers notice a different style here and there and also some changes in how some of the characters are written. I didn't notice much of that, but then, I have only read the series twice, and english is not my native language.

Also, a lot of the material in the books was written by RJ and it's still Harriet editing, so I don' thinky o uwill be disappointed. I know I am not. And even if I had been disappointed, I would still read the last books to find out how RJ wrapped it all up. Remember he knew the ending from all the way back when he started the series, so that will be all his.

That and some people don't care that it is a different style

sanderson's books do have some issues, but they are far from disappointing. personally i like the pacing, but i think some of that might have been rj in the first place (he planned just one more book)and i was kind of annoyed with how he wrote mat in tgs (its blood and ashes, not bloody ashes, he only says bloody in the extended "bloody blood and ashes", he also moves a little too far into a comedy sideshow in tgs) but he does a little better with mat in tom, and does i think a quite good job with perrin in tom, but i suspect allot of that was already put together. but overall both books are quite fun reads, have read tgs 3 times now (and once on audio book) and am on my third reading of tom currently (with also one audio book listen)

ok i was kinda wondering just cause sanderson's other book arent as complex WoT... well im glad to hear that he is doing them justice

It really depends on what you like in your fantasy novels. Some people have enjoyed the last two books because of an increased pace and plot gratification. Having said that both books were rushed to print without the proper time spent on drafts or editing and the quality suffered. I've noticed that individuals that tend to like all action books and don't necessarily care all that much for the mistakes/quality of prose haven't been so bothered while people that loved RJ's writing style, subtlety and level of immersion have had pointed complaints.

BS's writing at times can be very blunt and unfortunately he often holds our hands through situations outlining exactly what is happening. Instead of hints sprinkled throughout characters do a good deal more announcing their intentions. He has had trouble with certain characters but then I would have been surprised if he didn't. The best description I can think of is it is fairly uneven. You will be clipping along really enjoying yourself and then something pops up that jars you right out of the story. He has announced he is changing his process in doing more drafts/revisions and Team Jordan is lengthening the editing process for aMoL to address these issues. They have been vocal in that they are going to do everything possible while taking their time in order to get the final installment right.

Having said the above I do believe BS was the best choice to finish the series. He has performed admirably under very difficult circumstances and deserves our full gratitude.

well at least you weren't just straight flaming him, and in truth i agree. he has done very well, but no, he isn't rj. and i am one of those people who can ignore allot of editing issues (although perrin saying he had only been to caemlyn once kinda pissed me off, likely more things like that i didn't notice)but misspelled and misplaced words annoy me allot more than a plot oversight. i know the plot so when i see something i know is wrong i can generally just plug in the right data, and so far it hasn't changed the plot. an out of place word, or a word that was either wrong of misspelled can drop me right out of visual mode, where i am looking at the words and seeing what they say.

I agree with Testy al'Carr that misspelled/misplaced words - such as allot in place of a lot - can be rather annoying at times. Also, Sanderson's overuse of certain words - tempest is probably the most commonly cited example - can make one want to beat him around the head with a thesaurus. I'm not convinced that Sanderson's pacing is significantly better than Jordan's was capable of being. He just uses less description along the way.

i think allot of the pacing was jordan. i'll remind again that these 3 books he intended to be one, even if you needed a wheelbarrow to kart it home. i suspect he was working on making the pace faster, and i think kod is an example of the lead in to that.
