Hello.

Now wouldn't that be nice, a one word new topic from a newbie?

Nope, won't happen.

How did I find this site?

Well, I've been reading WoT for a long time. And I was constantly searching for a new book when whatever before TGS came out and I had finished reading it. Then I found TGS and read up on what happened. RIP Robert Jordan. So, I finished TGS and started searching for info about TOM. Found this site then found TOM was already out. Drove to the closest Borders, and it was having a closing sale. That didn't seem good, so I ran inside and searched through the mess for the Fantasy section, and didn't find the book. Heartbroken, because I had thought I'd searched the whole store by then, I was on my way out and saw a book shelf near the door. I had missed that one. So I looked and didn't see the book. Then I, almost crestfallen, walked around the shelf and saw two TOM books! I almost bought both I was so happy. Anyways, just finished it, waiting on the final book.

What made me join?

I was lurking around then found the RP section. Since I constantly dream WOT, I figured I should give it a try. It's been almost 10 years since I've done any TRP.

Main question on my mind?

Why the title Towers of Midnight when we see nothing of them? All there is is a glossery snip on them being 13 towers in Seanchan. Quite frankly, I haven't even seen that much on Seanchan in mainland to begin with, let alone a good ol' trip to their land.

Thoughts on the Forsaken?

OMFG. They blow. The most feared 13 Aes Sedai of the Age of Legends, and they come across as puny, bickering, blightblinded fools. They haven't done much. Semerhige seemed to be the only one to uphold her namesake.

Anyways, I'll give that RP section a go.

Seriously. The current age is all "omg a Forsaken what do we do?!?!" then they fight them or whatever and beat them easy. It's such a let down. You'd figure a Forsaken would take at least a few dozen down with them.

Then there's the whole screwing each other's plans up. They seemed to have better coordination in the AoL.

Ishamael/Moridin is half mad and I think he's got a boy-crush on Rand.

Lanfear was a total let down. Did she even kill anyone?

Mesaana was whatever. I mean, who doesn't have a backup plan for when stuff goes wrong? I highly doubt that fight would have had better results elsewhere. Perhaps if Egwene hadn't seen Perrin just unravel balefire she wouldn't have remembered that the mind is more powerful than the Power in Tel'aran'rhiod.

Graendal? Yeesh...

Moghedian was epicfail

The dead dudes were totally played.

Semirhage at least really scared people, and tortured them. She had things going the way she should.

Demandred has yet to do anything. Unless he's owning Caemlyn.

Total let downs. They blow. Except for Semirhage.

Oh, and considering the amount of weaves said to be lost in the new age. Travelling, that cloak one, the inverted stuff, maybe compulsion, and what else? I was excpecting some awesome stuff. They didn't do anything...

Edit-Elgee ninjaposted me lol

I'll probably RP a power weilder. I'm a fan of women weilding Saidin, if that's a possibility other than through the Dark One. I feel they'd add some finesse to the weaves. And probably be a level higher on the deadly list. "Heav'n has no Rage, like Love to Hatred turn'd, nor Hell a Fury, like a Woman scorn'd." Who better to wrestle with Saidin *grin*. If not possible, I have other ideas. *enter mysterious music here*

We don't have the "woman wielding Saidin" here, but what we DO have is (are?) Reds Bonding (and *gasp!* being Bonded BY) Asha'man. Other Ajahs will follow suite soon. Linking with each other is now being explored.

Yeah the link between Elayne and Birgitte is interesting. Their emotions affect each other, and even intoxication. I wonder if between two Saidar weilders if it could work as a permanent link, even long distances. Maybe get 13 linked through the Aiel weave and have a full circle on call to shield men at a moments notice?

So no Saidin weilding women meaning none yet or none never?

Edit- I guess it doesn't matter. Saidar can do what I want. You don't need the taint to be mad. Madness can stem from anything. I mean, just - ooh look a birdie!

You might want to enquire from Liitha, who's Group Leader for the ... Darker side, shall we say. I don't know if they have a once-male-now-female Forsaken wielding Saidin. If they do, it would be an NSW, not a PC, but it's an option to explore.

And yes - there are quite a few rather fruitcakey Aes Sedai floating about. Not to mention Aiel Wise Ones, Kin, damane ...

Hmm. The oaths annoy me. Any of them. The three Aes Sedai ones and the ones to the Dark One. If I have the power to do what I want, then I will do what I want thank you very much. On that thought, damane, no, Wise One, no, Seafolk, no. They are all too tied up in their people's cultures. Perhaps if we knew more about Shara...

That leaves a conundrum. The BT seems closest to what I want. But I feel a male channeling Saidin and going mad is all too common.

I wasn't inferring a deal with the Dark One to be male in female transformed. That's cool, but still bound to the Dark One.

I'm sure females channeling Saidin and males channeling Saidar have happened before, naturally, just very rare. The Forsaken didn't seem all that surprised when they saw the reincarnations, and I doubt it was because they were reincarnations. They didn't really know. They just seemed mildly amused. Then again, the Forsaken are hardly worth taking seriously.

Maybe a Ter'Angreal could do a switch, and if done mistakenly by one able to channel but didn't know yet, then it leaves many options. Of course said Ter'Angreal would have to be taken for safekeeping. It could be very dangerous.

Ramblings of a madman.

Kin can channel but aren't tied to the DO or the WT, but they need to stay hidden. We do have the Freebooters which are just the general population on the world that don't fall into the other groups, I'm not sure on the PSWs postition on Wilders but they would probably fall under the Freebooter heading.

Just keep in mind that every action has a reaction, even in the RP world. So if you do something that would cause notice, people will notice. If you do something that should kill you, you will be killed.

Hmm, the Kin. Could work. I have to go brush up my knowledge on them. Been awhile since I cared about them, if I did at all. I just figured them a bunch of WT rejects. But I don't think it says they didn't take wilders or girls who could learn that the WT missed for whatever reason.

Lol ... I would strongly suggest you go read the pinned topics at the Welcome Inn, Shojoro.

Oh and we're currently planning the Cleansing of the Taint, so there will probably be a bunch of Asha'man who don't go Taint Mad.

I've been perusing those threads for the last few days.

One thing that kinda irks me is the little link to races/cultures. I thought it'd just be a list of some little details on what each look like and their culture. I run into a huge wall of text that is hardly appealing to look at let alone decipher. No offense to who made it.

I haven't made a bio or joined that yet because I'm still learning about the realm there. Gotta know what I'm jumping into.

BTW, does anyone have info on the Sharans?

Kathleen, that link isn't working for me, nor are the other Kin related links in the RP section.

I wonder if Demandred is poking around with the Sharans. I hope we hear more of them in the next book. From Avienda's POV they seem to be up in arms about something, I wonder what motivated them to go from seclusion to war.

Welcome to DM! I see the RPers have a handle on you  I just wanted to answer the question about the Towers of Midnight! The title is not only about the Towers in Seanchan, but also the Tower of Gehnji, and the White/Black Towers I believe... It is supposed to encompass all of the Towers in play.

That's what I figured until I read the glossary. That's why I'm confuzzled.

I think I've got a character to draw up. I'm still reading through all the rules and whatnot in that section, to make sure I don't break any or step on any toes.

Hi there Shojoro, Group leader of the Freelanders RP Group and Highest of the Red Ajah Social side here.

First of all, welcome to Dragonmount and I very much enjoyed your stint at the Forsaken in the books. They do seem to drop as easily as flies, don't they?

I also like your straight forward style, for it allows me a rare opportunity to be straight forward too.

Please make sure that whatever information you read on any of the FL Groups (which includes the Kin) is on the site starting with ariyena.com for that is the information we're going with. We're working hard on cleaning up a lot of mess from the past and providing a realistic, practical and usable system which is why you may run across some contradictions if you check out other sites than the ariyena one. If the links do not work, try the homepage and then go to the Kin section from there: http://www.ariyena.com/freelanders/default.html

I noticed you seem to be irked/irritated/annoyed by a lot of things and I hope we can help reduce that somewhat. However, please keep in mind that you will not find any character in the PSW (the RP world we play in) that doesn't have a weakness, a flaw, a drawback or a limitation. Same as in real life. There are no superpowerful channeling blademaster warrior Tinkerraised Ogier Deathwatch guards living in the Aiel Waste. We make a choice of what character we wish to play and accept the ups ànd downs of that character's culture, it's nature and it's limitations. There's nothing more boring than a perfect, uberpowerful, allknowing character. We try to guard the realism of the characters, the cultures and the PSW world as a whole, even if there are quite a few things different in our RP setting from the books. Those differences were necessary to be able to translate the story to an RP setting.

If you would like to play a character that is above and beyond the confines of the characteristics and cultural limitations from the books, we also have the Free-style RP section, called Revolutions. There you can have an Ogier channeler, and Aiel who is a blademaster, a Saidin wielding Aes Sedai or an 8 foot Cairhienin. Not in the PSW though.

You'll find that as long as you are willing to work 'with' us, you won't be stepping on any toes anytime soon. We're dedicated to making sure our members have as good a time as possible and that includes working real hard on making opportunities happen and try to come up with sollutions that will work for both them and remain within the framework that is the PSW. Each character (and through them, the player) has a very strong impact not only on the Group they join, but on the entire World they are played in. It's important we guard the cohesiveness of that world in order to make it possible for all RPers to know what to do, what not to do and what to expect.

I hope we can provide you with a setting that won't irk/irritate/annoy you, but I'm sure with a bit of mutual cooperation that shouldn't be too difficult to achieve.

I understand. I'm constantly reading and rereading the rules and guidelines and such to make a character that fits the world you all have worked hard to make.

I'll have a character to put through eventually, haha.
