Why not? Asking the werewolves to come right out might be a give away. A blatant attempt to hide himself in the villager masses.

Wow . . . werewolves. I heard the stories about before but I never really believed. I guess it's tuff to be the new guy. decideing who's gonna live, who's gonna die. Being mayor's not a fun job. But we're a democracy- so we need to choose. I don't about Kadere- I think I'll wait and hear some other suggestions.
