Oh, and I also didn't pick up that Avi's behaviour to Rand in the beginning was an act because she was falling (already had?) in love with him and felt it was wrong because of Elayne.

Funny that, because as a kid, if I liked a girl, I always behaved in a way I thought showed everyone I didn't like her (even though everyone knew anyway, including the 'her').

Wow some of you guys missed a lot! But that's okay it's a complex book...I haven't read what Moiraine said about Rand's sickness or the FAQ (haven't gotten that far yet) but I kinda thought it was because of his balefire stream touching Ishamael's, but I'm not sure yet.

One thing that may be confirmed in the first two books of the new trilogy...I'm surprised I've NEVER heard mention of Padan Fain's dagger maybe having a moderate influence on Rand as well...I mean, he picked it up, even if only briefly during TGH, but that's been glossed over ever since. And ever since then, Rand has had serious, serious trust issues. Some of the trust issues are deserved, and some seem to come from his madness, but I always thought that some part of that had always been Fain's dagger!

Can someone link that FAQ section? I'm interested in what was said about the too young sitters that was mentioned on page 1 of the thread?

I thought he mentioned he knew she was one of them, that he wasn't sure which of them was Lanfear.

Excellent distinction. I stand corrected. In the part I am thinking of, when Kadere, Keille and Isendre are introduced, Rand seems to study Kielle quite a bit, then mention Lanfear by name two paragrahs later.

One thing I missed until the 5th or 6th re-read that wasn't massive but still cool was Paitr (sp?) showing up in LoC I think. Hes the young guy who tries to bust Morgase and co out of The Fortress of the Light. He was also the same young DF who confronts Rand and Mat in one of the towns on their way to Caemlyn in tEotW, Rand punches him in the nose lol.

I only figured it out when Morgase commented that he was an Andoran who wanted to help them to make up for a mistake back home. It all suddenly clicked into place then as the mistake was letting Rand and Mat escape and he was planning on making up for it my handing Morgase over to a higher ranked Darkfriend or even Forsaken. What is really awesome though is that when Paitr and his uncle get hanged for being Darkfriends I believed what Morgase did. Now she believed that when Asuwana came to escort her to see Niall and he took her the 'short way' it was for her to see Paitr being hanged to prove they knew of her escape plan without accusing her of anything thus munipulating her into signing the treaty allowing The Children of the Light into Andor, which she did thinking Niall was VERY clever. I totally bought it that was the game Niall was playing but when I realised Paitr actually WAS a DF I realised the Whitecloaks were just hanging him for being a DF and it was a coincidence that Morgase saw the hanging that subsequently lead her to sign the treaty. Hope that all makes sense just thought that that was sooooo awesome when I worked it out lol.

Thoughts?

Damn, something else I missed. Thanks Metallicafan. Incidentally, I was playing guitar hero Metallica this morning  !

I took that the opposite way...his mistake was allying with the DarkOne, and he returned to the light, and thought that by helping her he could atone for some things.

I like your ideas though...Hrm...

Tam, right at the beginning of the Eye of the World, about his fancy sword: "I got it a long time ago, a long way from here. And I paid entirely too much. Three coppers is too much."

I took this at face value when I first read it. Old al'Thor's got some Aes Sedai skillz!

It's funny, I was actually listening to TSR in my truck earlier, and for the first time really heard Lanfear's quote from when she talks to Rand in the Stone. Rand is shielded but considers grabbing Callandor to use as a physical weapon. Lanfear stops him with a wall of air and then remarks:

"I cannot trust you fully Lews Therin. Not yet. Not with that certainly <referring to Callandor>. There are only two more powerful that a man can use. One, at least, I know still exists."

I was flabbergasted to have missed it before and that I've never seen a thread or rumor about it. Obviously one of the two was the male Choeden Kal, but whether it was the one Lanfear knew still existed is certainly a question. But it implies that there is another uber-powerful sa'angreal knocking around somewhere in Randland. Potentially a big plot crux at some point?

Actually it was a misprint that went to the Audiobook script office before being corrected. She was supposed to say that there were only "two more powerful that ever existed. One, at least, I know still exists." The 2 were supposed to refer to the Choedan Kal, one male and one female. The male one that she saw while with Rand in TGH is the one that she "knows to exist" at that point.

That explains a lot. I wondered why I'd never heard much noise about it. Freakin' Audible! Got me all worked up.

Although it's also the printed the same way in the copy of the TSR that I have. Guess I have an old one of those.....

Possibly. I heard about it back around WH or so. I had wondered the same thing, but somewhere in TDR when Eggy or Nyn asks an AS about Callandor, she gets told that there are only 2 more powerful still existing in the world (i think its Nyn during a conversation w/ Suian) and that "fortunately they were never used before the end of the War of Power". Lanfear was supposed to be reiterating this information to us (and telling Rand for the first time about the CK), but fast fingers and attempts to proof read over 300,000 words combined to give us this lemon. Sorry, but a great try! Keep looking.

Personally I catch something on almost every re-read.

Do you have a quote for this? It's still in the version orbit sent me late last year, which is the latest printing.

No, I don't. I remember seeing several things about it around the time CoT came out, but haven't really seen anything since which I had assumed it was because it had been settled. I'll try to search through RJ quotes to see what I can find. IIRC the discussion came up because of the destruction of the female Access Key at the end of WH. I'll see what I can find.

Pillow friends are best friends...arn't they?

Since no one responded to you, and there's a chance you're being serious: no. Pillow friends are not just best friends. They are women in the Tower who sleep with one another for comfort or any other reason. And by "sleep with one another" I mean "sex."

Maria said: I just looked at the 22nd printing of the TSR mass market, and it still says, "There are only two more powerful that a man may use." I know that I never asked for that correction, since there is no need for it. Note that Lanfear adds, "One at least, I know, still exists."

I think someone fibbed to you.

Apparently I was misremembering it. I do apologize. I did find an RJ quote about it on Theoryland, but it was a RAFO not a statement of it being a misprint. It was not an intentional fib, just 20 years of info (all learned as the books came out across the 20 years) all being crammed together in my head. It was my mistake, sorry.
