Picked this up off of DH:

 

Though the critics have loved it, the ratings haven't been great and so NBC's "Chuck" has always seemed to have several lives as every year it has come close to cancellation and yet always manages to scrape through.

 

The story this year, despite the show only being halfway through the fourth season, looks different. Chatting with Give Me My Remote, "Chuck" co-creator Chris Fedak says "we’re excited to consider the idea of actually doing a fifth season. That’s big news. That’s exciting to us. And I feel like the new NBC owners don’t want to have to be the ones to explain to the "Chuck" fans why they canceled their favorite show."

 

The talk comes on top of the spy-dramedy having received larger than expected order of 11 more episodes which brings this fourth season to a total of 24 episodes - the longest season yet of the show.

any info on Parenthood?? they're doing the rest of this season, but i had heard a rumor that it was slated for being cancelled due to the cast beign too pricey.

* “Bones” isn’t quite beating “The Office” but is kicking the poop out of “CSI” and retaining MUCH more of the “Idol” audience than “Human Target” does on Wednesday.

 

* “The Chicago Code” got off to an unspectacular start that Monday, but did better than what “Lie To Me” or “Human Target” usually pull in that slot; week two (which brings a better episode) will tell us more about the series’ longterm prospects.

 

* “Traffic Light” is doing worse in the “Running Wilde” slot.

 

* Poor “Fringe” hit an all-time low (and became Fox’s lowest-rated series) last week in the Fox Friday Death Slot.

* “Better With You” continues to squander “The Middle’s” momentum.

 

* “Desperate’s” decline is killing “Brothers & Sisters.”

 

* “Off The Map,” the latest lady-doctor show from the folks behind “Anatomy” and “Private,” should soon be off the air.

 

* “V” hit its two lowest scores ever over the last two weeks.

 

* “No Ordinary Family” hit this week its lowest score ever, a 1.5. Only one other scripted show on the network, “1-8-7,” pulls a lower number.

* In its final season “Veronica Mars” pulled a 1.4 in adults 18-49. At the same time “Gilmore Girls” was pulling a 2.1 in the same demo. When the WB took “Angel” off the air it was averaging 4 million viewers weekly. “Vampire Diaries” garnered about 2.8 million viewers this week. I think CW chief Dawn Ostroff recently announced she was stepping down to spend more time with her family.

* Eight seasons in, the crown jewel of the JAGverse, “NCIS,” continues to skirt its all-time highs on “Idol”-free Tuesdays, and tied with “Glee” as Tuesday’s top show this week.

 

* With “Idol” currently running four hours weekly, “CSI” hit an all-time low. “Survivor,” “Big Bang” and “Criminal Minds” are also finding it tough going against the Fox juggernaut.

 

* “Rules of Engagement” hit a season low with its move to Thursdays, and did only a little better than “Shit My Dad Says” did in that slot the previous week.

 

* Sunday’s “Undercover Boss,” so huge following its Super Bowl night debut last year, just hit another new personal low. “Amazing Race” got off to a slow start. “CSI Miami” somehow managed to win the 10 p.m. Sunday slot with a 2.2.

 

* “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” is no “NCIS LA,” taking a massive hit in its second week despite the continued strength of lead-in mothership “Criminal Minds.”

 

* “The Good Wife” continues to squander the momentum of its “NCIS” lead-ins. On Tuesday it was beaten by both “Parenthood” and MTV’s “Teen Mom.”

 

* “CSI NY” was Friday’s top show, but the pricey “Blue Bloods” is looking tired with its return to Fridays. “Defenders” looks like it’s going away for good in a few weeks.

 

 

 

* TVBTN picks “The Defenders” as “certain” to be cancelled and “Shit” as "likely" to be canelled.

 

* “The Bachelor” hit a season high this week.

 

* “Idol’s” expansion to 9 p.m. Wednesday is hurting “Modern Family” and “Mr. Sunshine.” (The producers of “Cougar Town” have to be grateful to taking a break right now.)

 

* The news was far worse for “Grey’s Anatomy,” which “Idol” pushed to an all-time low.

 

* “Winter Wipeout” was doing much better before “Idol” hit Thursdays, but it’s still doing much better than most of ABC’s attempts to program its slot. I think ABC just aired its last installment (we get a “Winter Wipeout” repeat next week), but I think I just saw a promo for “Springtime Wipeout.” Smart move, ABC.

 

* “Desperate Housewives” doesn’t compete with “Idol,” but remains a shadow of its former self anyway. (It hit a 5.3 last season; two weeks ago it was down to a 2.7.)

 

* “Brothers & Sisters,” “V” “Better With You” and “Off The Map” are all now nesting below the 2.0 mark.

 

* “No Ordinary Family” was ABC’s lowest-rated scripted show last week, hitting a new personal nadir of 1.4. The creator of this superhero tale, longtime “Dawson’s Creek” showrunner Greg Berlanti, is credited as screenwriter of the fast-approaching “Green Lantern” movie. I know, right?

 

* The big Todd Packer episode was no match for “American Idol,” but “The Office” did creep close to "Grey's" and soundly beat “CSI” again this week. “Parks And Recreation” also held up better against “Idol” than I might have predicted.

 

* “30 Rock” continues to do much better than “The Apprentice” at 10 p.m. Thursday, though “Outsourced’s” score a half-hour later offers less improvement over Donald Trump’s disastrous reboot.

 

* “SVU” won its 10 p.m. Wednesday timeslot against the new “Criminal Minds” spin-off and Shonda Rhimes’ latest lady-doctor dramedy “Off The Map.”

 

* “Parenthood,” with a harrowing episode written and directed by “Friday Night Lights” mastermind Jason Katims, beat CBS’ “The Good Wife” and ABC’s “Primetime.”

 

* Veterans “Chuck” and “Community” and newcomers “Outsourced,” “Harry’s Law,” “The Cape” and “Perfect Couples” all seem stuck at all-time personal lows.

ABC’s superhero series “No Ordinary Family” has never looked more cancelled.

 

Not only did its last new episode hit a new personal low of 1.2 in adults 18-49, but stars Michael Chiklis (“The Commish,” “Daddio,” “The Shield”) and Julie Benz (“Angel,” “Dexter”) are both shooting pilots for next season.

 

Deadline Hollywood reports exclusively that Benz is starring as a hot ghost in an untitled CBS supernatural drama. Chiklis is also at CBS, shooting the sitcom pilot “Vince Uncensored.”

 

CBS would have to recast both shows in the unlikely event ABC picked up “Ordinary” for a second season.

 

“Ordinary” was masterminded by former “Dawson’s Creek”/“Brothers & Sisters” showrunner Greg Berlanti, who was also hired to script the big-screen “Green Lantern” and was helping adapt the movie version of DC Comics' “The Flash.”

* “The Event,” which started the season with a 3.6, fell Monday to a personal low of 1.2. I confess I forgot there was a new episode. Some talkbackers believe DVR numbers can save shows. I am not persuaded.

 

* “Chuck,” which hit 2.4 a couple of times last season, fell to a personal low of 1.6, beaten into fourth place by a repeat of “How I Met Your Mother.”

 

* Despite its anemic lead-ins, David E. Kelley’s “Harry’s Law” seems to have latched on to a small but loyal audience. (It still lost to basic cable’s “WWE Raw” and a repeat of “Five-0,” but on NBC that could still win a show a renewal. We’ll see how the return of “Law & Order L.A.” does.)

 

* I am puzzled by the fact that the “Bachelor” aftershow, and not the “Bachelor” finale, was the night’s top performer. That never happens with “Survivor.”

NBC has renewed three of its Thursday night comedies, while both the British cult hit "Being Human" and its American remake have also scored renewals.

 

Over on the Peacock, "The Office," "Parks and Recreation" and "Community" have all scored full 2011-12 seasons. The shows have been averaging 7.7 million, 5.5 million and 4.7 million viewers respectively, while "Community" in particular has been scoring a lot of critical kudos.

 

The trio join "30 Rock" which was already renewed earlier this year. That leaves only the network's struggling freshmen comedies "Outsourced" and "Perfect Couples" whose future are now in question.

 

Meanwhile both incarnations of supernatural dramedy "Being Human", the British original on BBC3 and Syfy's American remake, have both had their lives extended.

 

Having just wrapped its third season, BBC3 have confirmed that a fourth season has been green lit and will deal with the aftermath of events in this past week's finale. The eight episode season will shoot later this year for airing in 2012.

 

Meanwhile, Syfy's version will get a second season after its initial run averaged 1.8 million viewers so far. That makes it the cable network’s most successful winter scripted series launch in six years. It's also their most female-oriented series to date with 53% of viewers being women.

Perfect Couples has been canned. I think this is a loss as this is much better than some other shows out there.

 

First up, Comedy Central has ordered another batch of twenty six episodes of the brilliant animated comedy "Futurama".

 

Thirteen episodes of the first batch aired last Summer and averaged 2.5 million viewers per week with DVR figures included. The remaining thirteen episodes kick off this June. The plan is to stick to that schedule meaning half this batch of new episodes will air in mid-2012, the remainder in mid-2013.

 

Next, Fox has given a full fourth season pickup order for "Fringe". Despite ratings last week falling to a series low of 3.8 million viewers, critically the show has never been better and the numbers for its Friday timeslot make it "the No. 1 show on the night this season" says the network. It has also boosted the network's average for the night by 38%.

 

Finally and despite the cancellation today of its new drama "Lights Out", FX is reportedly very happy with how its neo-Western crime drama "Justified" is progressing in its second season and are close to renewing it for a third.

 

Each episode of "Justified" draws 7.4 million total viewers this season (multiple plays included), up 9% on last year and close to the numbers of the network's flagship drama "Sons of Anarchy".

Stargate Universe has been burning off its last half-season of episodes. I've been continuing to watch, although I don't know why. I've never found this series to be as interesting as SG-1 or Atlantis. Some of the actors are giving quality performances, but the material they have to work with is weak. The series has failed to really establish a regular villain like the previous SG shows did. The bad guys they have brought in have been either carryovers from SG-1 (Lucian Alliance) or CGI baddies that aren't nearly as menacing as Goa'uld or Wraith. I think when this show runs its course, the SG franchise will be dead

 

As for other bubble shows, I was happy to see Fringe get another season. I've been enjoying it from the beginning. I don't think I will miss V if it doesn't make it till next season. It started off well, but season 2 has been uneven. I think they wrote themselves into a corner or two with the cliffhanger, and have no clue how some things could get resolved. And while it was cool working Marc Singer into the finale, his goatee was awful! He would have been better off going clean-shaven.

Red: I saw commercials for Parenthood when I was watching stuff on demand over the weekend. I think it should be returning soon. I believe it is in the same state it was the last time we spoke about it.

CBS on Sunday gave walking papers to sitcoms “Shit My Dead Said” and “Mad Love” and dramedy “The Defenders.”

NBC is not going forward with “17th Precinct,” Ronald D. Moore’s pilot about cops maintaining order in a world literally full of magic.

 

The project would have reunited “Battlestar Galactica” mastermind Moore with James Callis (who played Gaius Baltar), Tricia Helfer (who played the treacherous robot "Six") and Jamie Bamber (who played Lee Adama).

 

 

“Brothers and Sisters” is done after five seasons and “V” is done after two. Freshmen "No Ordinary Family," "Detroit 1-8-7," "Off The Map," "Better With Your" and "Mr. Sunshine" are dunzo as well.

 

Outsourced, The Event, and Law and Order LA are canned too.

In the battle of the bubble crime-drama spinoffs, veteran CSI: NY won a reprieve with a last-minute renewal, while freshman Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior is being canceled after a short midseason run.

Well done to ABC for completing leaving V hanging with the cancellation.

 

Having just watched the series finale over here in the UK (on the SyFy channel, where it has been the channel's biggest hit, along with one other cancelled ABC produced fantasy show from last year), I felt there was so much potential going forward from where it was. I did miss most of the first series, but enjoyed the second. There were good twists and turns.

 

Just looks like I enjoy shows ABC cancel - V, Legend of the Seeker (I don't care what you think!), Pushing Daisies (that was a total balls up by ABC, in my opinion)...
