Elayne does have that knife ter'angreal Aviendha said hides the wearer from the Shadow; it's possible that the gholam won't be able to see her as long as she carries that. There's got to be a reason why that knife was introduced, and Aviendha also reminded Elayne of it right before she left.

The gholam probably doesn't know that, so yes. And he probably doesn't like it either that Elayne escaped death once.

 

Even if it doesn't manage to kill Elayne, the knife won't protect the rest of the palace, and there's a number of Black Ajah held captive there.

With one code left to be unlocked it's still very difficult to make out, by design I suppose. The first thing I can make out about the scene is it seems Mat comes to the realization that the gholam was in the city and curses a lot about this, how he determined this I can't make out. After this him and Thom have a conversation with a lot of it looking like it's about the TOG and Elayne. After that Mat runs into Teslyn and they have a friendly conversation it appears and then the scene ends. It's pretty annoying to be able to read a word here and there but not understand some of it!

I think Mat is going to trade the foxhead medallion for the knife and use it in the tower of Genji as it is iron unlike many of the other weapons/knives in the book or that Mat carries which are steel. Verin's letter will have a play in Mat's decision to leave and go to the tower. He'll give the medallion to Elayne as it is the only thing he knows that can hurt the bloody thing. However Elayne will think he is vulnerable since he is also a target of the shadow and of the gholm so she'll give him the knife to hide him on his small secret mission into Mordor umm... the tower. >.<
