Rand pre tGS and post tGS

So as to not Hijack the previous thread, I would like to start a discussion on what sort of character will Rand be now.

I would like to read what most of you all think on this.  I believe Rand will return to the pre-LoC Rand, or atleast, lessen the hardness around the edges.  I think most of Rands coldness post LoC was because of LTT instead of himself.  The voice of reason which kept tickling his mind was himself, and the one mostly incharge of his actions/thoughts was LTT.

Tell me what you think.

He should still have a temper.  As Nynaeve said in tGS (I think), he's always had a temper, there was just nothing in the TR to set it off.  It's important that along with laughing and crying he gets angry and yells when necessary.

I don't think a comparison to previous versions of Rand is going to be applicable.  He has learned and developed a LOT since FoH and LoC, he should be good leader and ruler now.  It's instinctive for him now.

I also don't believe what some people say about comparing his (speculative future) behavior to that of LTT.  Someone in another thread said said that LTT was always brash and difficult, but LTT's personality is not Rand's personality.  LTT is gone now, according the end of VoG, and RJ once said that personality is derived from a persons upbringing, not from their soul.

Rand's upbringing however has made him become difficult and stubborn anyway (TR men are ALWAYS stubborn)...

It should be interesting, but I think Moridin has enough control of his emotions for it not to actually affect him much, at least on the surface (maybe a Moridin POV would be cool, have we had many of those?).

When Rand was effected so much by Moridin, he was incredibly unstable, I just don't think we will see a very marked effect on the Nae'blis...

Well, I thought most of his problems (in this area) stemmed from two things:

1) His belief that he had to be hard (Hearstone) to win, and

2) His connection to Moridin.

The first one is gone, the second one isn't.

While I'd love for Rand to get it together all of a sudden, and start pulling the forces of the light together, and have them cooperating. I'm not so sure it will happen.

Well obviously his connection to Moridin is still there, and he will (I'm sure) again use the TP.

But, like Moridin has been able to control his emotions and actions despite the connection with Rand/LTT, so Rand will have more control now too that he isn't as unstable as before.

Of course he will still be affected by Moridin and the TP (BS said there will still be effects), but this is why I don't think he will be much like tFoH or LoC Rand, but different still.  Not Darth Rand, not tEotW Rand, and not LoC Rand.

It'll be ToM Rand!  Calm and in control of his emotions, but still difficult stubborn.  Powerful and commanding, yet still affected by his position.

It's not going to be an "all of the sudden" thing, but we do need Rand to get it all together and start pulling the forces of Light together, or this series is going to end pretty depressingly.  And we only have 2 books left for him to do it.

heeeey people...its rand......remember "duty is heavier than a mountain?"

remember how he ran at first then accepted that only he can save it all.....

rand al thor.....born to break the world(which he has done to the aiel) and save it (perhaps freeing all the damane?)

yet he did touch the true power....remember at the end of book 7?  all hail the king of the world.....and he liked the sound of that

one thing no one says.....which worries me.....in TGS, in veins o gold, he remarks.........i can do it right this time....or something to that effect...he didnt mess up the first time      ltt did...he wants to make up for where he messed up.....rand hasnt destroyed it all......ltt did....hmmmmm........did the dragon, rand , or ltt make it through??

dunno.......i still hope he wins......the hero has to win, right???

we shall see

Rand is LTT as well as rand, he has LTT memories but he also has his own, they are effectively the same person now, he has accepted them and merged them with his own. Someones personality is a result of their experiences (memories) and LTT in his head was what came up from the memories which rand wouldn't accept as his own. now that he has integrated with those memories he is both a combination of Rands memories and LTT memories. he isn't just rand as he was before LTT memories came into his head but he isn't just LTT either. He is a combo now, but more than likely the Rand memories are stronger since they are recent and directly his own so he is probably still more skewed towards the Rand side of their personalities.

So in rands mind he did screw up the first time because he remembers doing it, and from someones point of view thats all that matters, those memories define him now just like his own.

Hello all.

I REALLY really hope that Darth Rand doesnt become Hippie Rand. It would be acutely annoying if Rand went about proclaiming peace, love, and happiness to all and sundry. Fluff is not substance.

In fact, I can see it now: Rand sticks a flower in the Bore, akin to the way hippies in the 1960s stuck flowers in soldiers gun barrels. The flower is ragweed. The Dark One, allergic to pollen, flowers, and all things peace, has a sneezing fit so severe that he collapses into a small black hole....

....which will be drilled into, at a later age, when men and women, working together for the first time, discover Claritin.

Sincerely,

Wheel of Thyme

Awesome. I can just see it now...

Demandred: All right! Let's bring this Meeting of the Few Remaining Forsaken Who Aren't Dead or Stooges to order.

Moridin: Slow down; you move too fast.

Demandred: Beg your pardon, Nae'Blis?

Moridin: You've got to make the morning last!

Aran'gar: *facepalm*

Demandred: Look, the Great Lord is ready to break loose. The time has come to send our armies of shadow marching across the world--

Moridin: Just a-kicking down the cobblestone...

Demandred: Toward your epic final confrontation with the Dragon!

Moridin: Looking for fun and feelin' groovy!

Mesaana: ...

Aran'gar: ...

*enter Cyndane and Moghedien*

Moghedien: Here's the fresh flowers you ordered us to gather, Nae'blis!

Cyndane: And I brought my guitar!

Demandred: *mutters* All right, al'Thor. You win this round...

...And so the Shadow renounced evil and the Forsaken moved to a commune outside Seattle and began growing tomato plants and fair trade coffee. This was not the ending you expected, but it is an ending, and, yea, the Wheel of Time turns on for ever.

In VoG, Rand found the reason for fighting. He also bridged the dual personality (LTT and Rand) such that he will not longer be having this internal struggle with LTT anymore.  Does that mean the maddness is gone? Does it means the affects of the taint and using the TP are gone? - That I don't know. There may be lingering affects or there may not.

The Rand we see in ToM will be a Rand that is not having the continual inner struggle, but he is still Rand. The essence of him is still there.

Oh that's very good.
