About Wheel of Thyme

  1. This has already been done by the folks who run the WOT blog The 13th Depository. http://13depository.blogspot.com/2009/02/saidar-strength-ranking.html
  2. The Aelfinn's prophecy was that Mat must 'give up half the light of the world to save the world'. Yup, that's the quote I was referring to. Yet I don't remember her actually doing anything really vital that another person wouldn't have been able to do. Am I wrong? Yes. As the Vulcan saying goes "Only Nixon could go to China". <grins>. Egwene and Rand would not have listened to or respected anyone else BUT Moirane saying what she did. Anyone else would have been told to shut up, or been ignored as prattle.
  3. That makes little sense. To make a sa'angreal, one has to access the True Power if the thing magnifies it; see Rand's explanation to Elayne when he gave her the Seed to make angreals. Someone can not access the True Power unless they are given permission to do so from the Dark One, apparently (but then how was it ever tapped into by Mierien when she broke through the seals of the previous age)? Would the Dark One grant permission to one of his followers to use the True Power to trap male Forsakens? That would be illogical; the Dark One would be helping to reduce his own power and influence. Yes, Forsaken scheme amongst each other, and Verin and other Black Ajah members seem to imply such backbiting is fine, as the Dark One wants the cream of the crop of evil and selfishness...but creating a trap seems something the Lightside designed to trap the Darkside. Unless one female or male forsaken wanted to overpower and control another male? But the word "trap" seems to imply it was to the Dark Ones detriment, not to further his aims of winnowing out the weak.
  4. And it shall come to pass, in the days when the Dark Hunt rides, when the right hand falters and the left hand strays, that mankind shall come to the Crossroads of Twilight, and all that is, all that was, and all that will be shall balance on the point of a sword, while the winds of the Shadow grow. Rand had his left hand totally obliterated by Semiraghe. I suppose that could be seen as it being gone astray, but understatement to that vast degree is rather comical. Or it could be metaphorical, as Perrin and Mat were Rand's right and left hand men, so to speak. But I do like the understatement of the series in the above interpretation.
  5. The Wise Ones dream prophecy's were not full and complete. As Avihenda reported to Rand, "Melaine and Bair dreamed of you on a boat with three women whose faces they could not see, and a scale tilting first one way then the other". What she neglected to mention was that the Wise Ones also saw this boat going on a "three hour tour. A three hour tour"* :) * gilligans island reference.
  6. I suppose this makes Cloud a horse of a different color? Seriously, all this talk of Bela and horses is just neigh-saying :) <smiles>
  7. I suppose this action would take place....between the sheets? :) Bela and Narg. Imagine the offspring. Or would it just be one VERY evil centaur?
  8. I posted this on another thread, a few months ago. I still think it will be Graendal/ Hessalem who comes back to the light. In the books, Hessalam supposedly means "utterly without forgiveness", but, if you put Hessalam and only Hessalam in Google the results are rather different. Ignoring all the Wheel of Time references, "Aleh hes-salaam" refers to one of the names of Christ, at least among Muslims, so I understand if I read the sites correctly. Robert Jordan was known for twisting words and phrases, maybe this is the clue.
  9. Well..... Egwene and Gawyn DID say they wished to marry. Maybe it will be a GRRM type wedding. In which case: 1) The groom could be poisoned. 2) The groom could be shot with a crossbow. 3) The wedding guests can be killed...somewhat frowned upon in Westeros, but a Dothraki wedding without a few deaths is not considered a fortunate event. 4) The bride and groom can be stripped naked as part of wedding festivities. I tend to think none of these would go over well at a wedding in Randland, but one never knows.
  10. Thats right...Cadsuane did say that she would spank Moiraine if she was not complaint with her wishes...I believe the phrase was "make her weep as she did for those mice". Will Cadsuane spank Moiraine on the Fields of Merrillor? Will Moiraine tell her to screw off? I guess we will have to wait to find out. But you are correct, it may be interesting...if they remember what they said. (Will the three oaths allow Moiraine NOT to be spanked? If Cadsuane does not spank her, then Cadsuane will not have followed through on what she said, which would make her words a lie, at least by omission....)
  11. I wish you great success in your PhD exams! And your art is lovely. Is your doctorate to be in fine art?
  12. Hi Neophyte and all...I noted 'Graendal' as well (I named my ferrets Graendal and Beowulf) but I also see the name Hessalam as significant. Robert Jordan was known for twisting words and phrases, maybe its HESSALEM who will be the one to return to the Light.
  13. I know it was likely coincidental and probably won't stay that way, but I like the idea of the number 909. Its like a palindrome, same forwards as it is backwards (I know it usually only applies to words, but hell why not). As the wheel of time is a circle without ending or beginning, 909 is a number that reads the same in both directions.
  14. Why yes, Rand traveled via Portal Stone to OUR current reality, stopped off at Home Depot, and got some cement. Because cuendillar is actually cement, you see. Kaf for coffee; tomat for tomato; things in our world with a little twist from the author end up in theirs..so..who says cement cant be what they call cuendillar? No, this was not quite a serious post; it was brought to you by the dubious qualities of way too much caffeine. Hope it was enjoyed and gave smiles to all who read it.
  15. But Leilwin has no reason to do so...shes never met Egwene and has no reason to even suspect any connection between Egwene and Mat. Now, if Nyneave were to talk about her friend Matrim Cuathon in Leilwin's hearing, that would be another kettle of fish. As Siuan Sanche would say.
