ToM: Leaked Beta Copy

No, I don't have one, but my question is this:

 

If you were to come across an authentic leaked copy of ToM (yes, I know it's not gonna happen, just a hypothetical here), would you download it?  Would you share it?  Would you even admit it?

 

I have to say, in this completely hypostheical situation, I would... umm... actually I won't say, I'd hate to be incriminated should something ever come up  ;D

I would not share it. I'm not even sure I would read it, given that it's not the final version. After much hesitation, I would.

 

How did I come by it, by the way?

Hmmm..I don't think I could possibly restrain myself from reading it, but I don't think I would pass it along, and would still pick up a copy in print when it came out. That's only fair.

How would you come by it?  Well, with enough will any piece of digital information can be ascertained  ;)  And the internet is a notorious market for spreading such things (just look at how many DVD screeners are leaked).

 

If I came across a copy, I wouldn't be able to resist reading it.  I would still of course buy a copy in November; but, really, who could resist?

You know, I might actually do that too.  WoT is an incredibly awesome product being sold at a decent rate.  It's not like some crappy Hollywood movie that costs $15 to see in the theatre, $19.99 to buy on DVD, or loads of advertisements on TV.

 

The WoT books are more than worth their value, and the people involved, even the publisher Tor, deserves every penny they make off the books.

 

But still, even if you did notify Tor, could you resist reading it?

Yes, I am the person who is disappointed everytime he goes into a bookshop because they don't have ToM even though it hasn't been printed...

 

I would like to think that I could resist entirely, but I think that what I would actually do would be the same as I did with HP7 - read the chapter titles and then stop.

Oooh, it's so exciting. In two weeks, Brandon will hand over the final draft. Is it naive to expect some excerpts by the first week of September?

On 16 July, a set of photographs representing all 759 pages of the U.S. edition was leaked and was fully transcribed prior to the official release date of 21 July.

 

As for excerpts, I'd say a pay-for prologue is likely, any audiobook snippets will probably be much later though, given the amount of time needed to record the chapters.

Okay, this is interesting. So, does anybody know how much HP7 grossed, in comparison to, say HP6? I've made a search, but all I could find is that The Deathly Hallows sold about 44M copies. I would really like to know what effect having the book roaming around the internet has had on sales.

On a related note, does anyone know how well Warbreaker sold?

Of course i would read it, we all would, no one here has the willpower to resist that temptation, be honest guys.  i would still buy the actual book though, and if it was aMoL that was leaked, i wouldnt read it, if i had to smash my computer to avoid it

Of course I'd read the Light-burned thing.. and then buy the hardback. But I don't think I'd pass it on. Though I'd have to stop reading/making posts here for a bit.. ;D

One of my many tasks at Dragonmount is to patrol the boards prior to a book release and make sure there are no spoilers or leaked copies being posted. I really wasn't expecting to see anything like that so early.

 

And if I am a beta reader this time, I don't think I'd be allowed to discuss Sorry.

I saw this thread earlier and was preparing to close it until I read it. It would not remain if it did have any links or info on actual leaked copy.

 

Also hp6 had also been stolen as well. That's what happens when there is too much hype. We seem to be lower key then Hp and Twilight which also had it's final book leaked. So here's to hoping that ToM is not leaked and I wouldn't read it because I wouldn't be able to talk to anyone about it.
