Perin and Slayer...

Recommended Posts

Slayer is the melding of Luc (Tigraines brother) and Isam (Lans cousin)

as for his powers I believe they where granted by the DO using his super powers kinda like Fains ability to sense rand mat and perrin

as for the dark prophecy, it seems to point towards Slayer leadign the shadowhounds

wow that all slipped right past me!  I love how symbolic and symmetrical it all is if he is to lead the Shadow hounds, it would be the wolf king versus the Hound king!  I think in the new book I am most looking forward to Perrin's journey, and Matt going after Moraine... forgive my spellings, I am an audio book listener  :)

Good news. A few months back Brandon estimated that Slayer will meet his end in ToM (though he wasn't certain he wouldn't be ending up pushing that into AMoL).

Now how's that for a spoiler? Surprised that tidbit got by me, or that Brandon was willing to let that shoe drop, considering non-disclosure agreements and all. Just because it's fantasy doesn't mean all the bad guys have to die by the end, after all...even if they usually do so.

Oh, I guess you're right, it's too spoilery. So I checked back, and it turns out I was paraphrasing from memory, and got a bit carried away. The original two quotes:

Question: Perrin is chasing Slayer in Tel'aran'rhiod, does Slayer actually disappear into the Tower of Ghenjei or does he disappear from the Dream?

Answer: Thats actually something I wondered and I asked and thats a RAFO. Both Slayer and the Tower of Ghenjei are things that are reserved for the Towers of Midnight.

Question: Slayer, is he going to be in the thirteen or fourteenth book?

Answer: He has a role to play in both, you will see him in both, probably. Unless you know he dies in the thirteenth, because he very well might. So, he has a role to play, yet.

So you see, I can be VERY wrong indeed in thinking Brandon was implying that ToM will see the end of Slayer. Sorry about that.

If I recall correctly, didn't Gitara Sedai tell Luc he had to to the Blight one year before she told Rand's mother she had to go into the Waste?  Why would the Aes Sedia who had the Talent for Foretelling send Luc to the Blight to become Slayer?

Not all foretellings will seem to work to the good guys' advantage at first.... Luc had to go to become Slayer.... Slayer's role was integral to Perrin's growth through defending the Two Rivers.... which got the Two Rivers involved in battles.... their longbows being important in victories at Dumai's Wells and against the Shaido.... which got The Prophet ixnayed.

Tangled web.

There is of course the possibility that gitara did not have any Foretelling about Luc, but just let him think so because she was smart. Having Luc around would have made it a great deal more difficult to convince Tigraine to leave, and there is extremely small chance that Luc would have just let her go, and not tried to find her.

So, to avoid those complications, just let Luc believe that there is a Foretelling about him (and look at Dyelins retelling of this in LOC, no one seemed to know what this supposed Foretelling actually had said), and get him out of the way.

Well, consider the alternative: Tigraine never reaches the Aiel Waste, never becomes Far Dareis Mai, and Rand is never born. I think a little cruelty is a fair price to save the world.

oh I am all in favor of cruelty, but I don't think I could ever condemn anyone to live like Slayer.  It is much more humane to just kill them and bury them in the back yard.

And I am just bashing Aes Sedai.

Slayer is somehow tied to the Tower. I don't think RJ would have had a scene end that way without a purpose. He is tied to the tower or the snakes and foxes. Moiraine might end up knowing more when we see her.

A purpose? How about Birgitte showing up, and telling Perrin (and us) about what the Tower actually is?

If Slayer had a connection to the TOG, why would he allow Perrin, a person Slayer knows is a player in the war, to follow him there?

to trap him there, remember that perrin was going to follow him in when brigette stopped him and explained getting in is easier than getting out.

And Birgitte was also horribly confused and shocked that ANYONE would willingly enter the TOG. Another pointer to connect Slayer with the place. Don't look at the story look at the writer's tools. The connection was made purposely in the story. They are connected somehow. Wouldn't be surprised if Mat and/or Moiraine see him in the world of the Finn.
