Today, the world woke up to find spaceships over every major city. The Visitors claim to have come in peace, bringing gifts of medical miracles and technological breakthroughs. They promise to do no harm. They're lying. Most people believe the aliens have arrived just when we needed them most. We're eager to embrace their generous offers of help, but while tracking a terrorist cell, Homeland Security agent Erica Evans stumbles upon something far more sinister. When her partner tries to kill her, Erica discovers that the aliens have plans to infiltrate our governments and businesses, planting seeds for their plot to control mankind. Convincing anyone of the truth will be impossible because the Visitors have two powerful weapons. First, they've given the people faith with their reassuring presence and gifts. Second, they've rallied our youth. Thousands of teens, including Erica's son, have been recruited as 'Peace Ambassadors' but they're actually serving as unwitting spies. Erica's violent introduction to the truth thrusts her into the resistance movement, where she joins forces with Ryan, a rogue alien driven to save humanity. She'll have to balance her covert activities with her job, and her role as a mother, fighting to protect her son Tyler even as he joins forces with the enemy. From executive producer Scott Peters, Emmy-nominated creator of The 4400, comes a bold re-imagining of the sci-fi classic. Let the invasion begin.

Mixed reviews for the pilot...

The New York Times says:

… The ideas in “V,” about alien encounters and mass delusion and media manipulation, are enticing. It’s too bad that they’re floating around in a show that at this early stage, is so slapdash and formulaic in its storytelling. … as the most astounding event in human history is unfolding largely off screen, we watch a mother racing across town to find her son; a man buying an engagement ring; detectives squabbling; a priest (Joel Gretsch of “The 4400”) having a crisis of faith. We could just as well be watching a show about a hurricane or a serial killer. …

Newsday says:

… has its fun moments, but mostly this is pure bunkum, or 1980s-era TV with a thin 2009 veneer. …

The Chicago Sun-Times says:

… Judging by the first episode, "V" seems like a solid adaptation. But it doesn't have the mysterious spark it needs to make it compulsory viewing, the way "Lost" lured us in. The problem with a remake is that we already know what lurks beneath the aliens' faux flesh. …

The San Francisco Chronicle says:

… "V" doesn't have an original premise - the humans versus aliens thing is as old as moving pictures. But the special effects are better …

The Los Angeles Times says:

… pretty terrific … Its opening sequence is a masterpiece of back-story compression. …

The Washington Post says:

… exciting … "Lost" fans, you've found your tide-me-over until Season 6. …

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says:

… an entertaining, well-made pilot that tweaks aspects of the original story but generally retains many of the show's familiar elements. …

The Salt Lake Tribune says:

… There's hardly a hint of political allegory in this re-imagining -- save for a snarky comment about the aliens providing universal health care. There's also little surprise or action in this alien invasion, and public reaction to such a monumental event seems rather tepid in the pilot episode. …

The Boston Herald says:

… Mitchell has never had a part so rich, one that allows her to play smart, sarcastic, tough and vulnerable. With her perpetually gleaming eyes, Baccarin is wonderfully otherworldly and suggests a streak of malevolence. … Tonight’s pilot is a good effort …

The Boston Globe says:

… no gold mine of symbolism is worth a damn when the show itself doesn’t have good old storytelling mojo behind it. And, based on the premiere, “V’’ has enough narrative drive and character definition to pull viewers into the creepy suspense of its dystopian world. …

USA Today says:

… the season's most entertaining new hour, straightforward division …

Entertainment Weekly says:

… A shrewd take on both sci-fi and the media, V is an excellently acted what-if-aliens- landed show … works as both escapism and a critique of society. …

The Hollywood Reporter says:

… It could be complicated, but Peters' tightly written teleplay makes it easy to follow. In addition, the pilot raises provocative issues without getting didactic. That, combined with mythology less dense than, say, ABC's "Lost," should make this an attractive viewing option.

Variety says:

… The pilot busily races through too much business, but it dangles a tantalizing array of plots, and features a knockout performance (in more ways than one) by Morena Baccarin as the cool, beguiling alien leader. …

Ok I thought it was good and I am very interested to see how this moves on.  I think the wife enjoyed it too... again.. never watching the old series she is new to this.

I will say it will take me some time to stop calling the characters Juliette and Walsh.

I really liked it--Flashforward, for all its brilliant premise, completely lacked compelling characters or intriguing plot-lines. I think if you'd given the Flashforward premise to this cast and crew it would blow the world.

That being said I'm enjoying the premise of V too. It's a little obvious, and makes me want to smack the kid upside his head (for all that he has the most adorable grin around).

I'll definately be watching this more. Juliette and Walsh were brilliant. Plus the dude from the 4400... This is the cast of awesome sci-fi's past.

I agree Sinister... but also it was nice to hook people into the show.

I am going to tan this out in case people haven't seen it yet...

Walsh ending was the best part.  Is he dead?  I don't think so... right... I can't remember the original series enough to know how the lizard people die.

Yea, I can see why they did what they did, but it would have been sooo much better to get the 'average joe' who hasn't seen the previous show, or ever heard about it, 'believe' these aliens are 'there' for the greater good, and not to 'eat everyone', then like 5 episodes end, the big reveal! Course you might be right about the 'hook' peole now. <_<

He's not dead, they showed him alive in the preview for the next episode... They can be killed like any other human, its just that they have advanced technology, and in the show they virtually owned the military. They killed them via a 'bacteria' that was somehow 'formed' from 'twins' born from an alien/human hybrid... (the lizard baby died, the human one lived...

Feel bad?  Is it because they are hot?

Sorry dude, gay. V producers went for hot girls and that old dude from the OC (which taints him). Hotest male character is Erica's son, and not a Visitor (kind of an idiot though, but its cool. He pretty.).

I feel bad for the Visitor's because Erica's going to dispassionately #%*# them up.

SPOILER for Today's ep

I thought it was ridiculously well done. Everything just fit. There were twists and turns and we got a lot more insight into the Vs and their methods. It was nice to see more of the Rebel Vs too and what they sacrificed for the rebellion and how they have ended up. Our dear Father was a moron (IMO) for going after Georgie alone, but it worked out and fit with his character. The final scenes were the best part though - the rebellion coming together and seeing that Lisa is Anna's daughter.

On a random note, my mom kept getting this show and the original confused. It was amusing, but still confusing for me trying to keep everything straight for her.
