Newbie Mafia Game Over!

Mafia's always fun and crazy.

 

FDM is running a mafia game in SG, which is always crazy and huge and fun. MCS is going to be running a standard game soon, I think. And something will happen after Wes' game ends.

I'm there, and my son is watching for the next newbie game, so I won't be playing in that one. I'll be in Meesha's newbie game, though. He doesn't have access to that board.

Lily, I'm super-amazed at how awesome you are. :D  You definitely have an intuition and a keen eye on you, girl.  Well, I can't call you "girl," because I'm very much younger than you.... :P

 

Anyway, congrats Townies!  I wish I could've played more of this game, but DCon held me hostage for a bit, and I was busy for the few days after I got back.  I never really got back into it after that. >.<

 

You guys did great, and it was fun!

Well, Lily, to be fair, I think you do so well partly because you have more experience under your belt than some of us.  Experience life-wise, I mean.  I think you also have a keen eye for BS and other stuff like that, and you take the time to think things through.  I personally think that your phenomenal playing came from all that, plus what appears to be an inherent knack for the nuances of mafia. :D

i know i told Peace what to do Rose, but I was just so concerned that he wouldn't. In the game on the BT, ragon saved himself not the finder an the finder got it. So I was a little concerne. I think it was so close to the end, he couldn't afford not to save her. We just couldn't risk it. i know i can be competative at times >.>

As long as you survived that night I think we were in with a good chance of winning. But you really did have to survive the night at all cost. So i jhave to say thanks to Peace for sacrificing himself. It worked!

I protected myself the first night both of us were revealed and they went for me. I figured they would think I would have protected pale and go for me again.

Now to address a couple things.  The doctor role I had specified that I could NOT protect myself.  This is pretty common in standard setups like the one we played.  The scum did not know this and I was really trying to make them think there was an actual WIFOM scenario (there wasn't). Therefore statements like the ones below were very anti-town.   

 

And if you save yourself an they go for her, we have lost our finder tonight, even worse scenerio!

 

It is best not to try and lead the doctor around by the nose.  I had been protecting Lily since she revealed.  But statements like this help the scum target me instead.  I wanted Lily to be targeted and it was likely due to her success.

 

I don't get where your coming from, Peace. If I find the last mafia tonight, we don't need you anymore. You will have done your job, and I will have done mine. If I don't get to find anything out, because I died, you all still have three potential candidates to lynch tomorrow.

 

 

Again, let the doctor do his work...these statement can kill the WIFOM that I was trying to create.  It saved me 1 night but I got killed once Tayla and you insisted I protect you.

They weren't, they were the truth. I didn't know you couldn't save yourself, and it isn't common at all. In fact I don't think I have known any where that is the case. And I have been in more mafia games than I can remember!

 

It was end game and it was the most important night. We could risk Lily coming up with a non mafia and you dying, but we could not risk losing her at all. That close to the game, that is the role of the doctor to protect her at all costs. I was telling you how it should be if we had any chance of winning. I don't normally likie doing it. But I had to let you know that it didn't matter what happened to you at that point. You were a known innocent and Lily was the only one who could come up with the stuff to help us win! It was more than likely the mafia were going to go after either one of you otherwise it would have narrowed down their chances of hiding!

Yeah, like Talya said, no one knew you couldn't protect yourself, Peace.  So far, I've only seen one game (besides this one) where the Healer couldn't protect himself/herself.  At least, I've only seen one game where everyone was aware of it.  This is the first one I've seen where it was revealed AFTERWARD that the healer had to protect someone else.

 

Telling them they should do that differently next time is pointless, because how could anyone besides yourself and the Mod know what the heck you were doing?  No one knew you were trying to promote a false WIFOM scenario.  No one knew it was false, and so the Mafia AND the rest of the Townies acted accordingly.

 

Basically, you can't say they were making a mistake, because all they knew was that it sounded like you were going to protect yourself.  Seeing that, naturally they wanted to make sure you protected Lily instead, because how could they know you were already going to?

 

Also, as Talya mentioned earlier, in the BT mafia game, the healer protected himself every night.  He had his reasoning, but it did cost the Town their Finder.  She didn't want that to happen here, so of course she wanted to be sure that it didn't.

The point is "advising" the doctor who to protect is anti-town.  Maybe you haven't played there but in every standard set up at Mafiascum.net the doctor can not protect them selves..so in my experience it is common enough.

 

Tayla, you did not have to advise me in anything.  Nor was it your role to do so..it actually made you look scummy and if I was the cop I would have wasted a night action on you.  Directing actions can be seen as scum play and at worse anti-town.

I don't play there neither Peace. So I wouldn't know. Lily could see where i was coming from so I wasn't too concerned about that. Even if she had that would have left us with two to choose from.

 

Shows how you can't take things as 'because someone does this they must be mafia' You should have looked at all the game as a whole too.

I'd just like to point out that it is ultimately up to the Mod.  

 

I can see why one would make the doctor unable to protect themselves.  And that may become a common theme here at some point.  But for now, it's been that the Doctor can heal themselves.

 

I see the good and bad to both sides.  I personally like to give my players more choice.  But the consequences of the wrong choice could be dire.  If it is common that the doctor can't heal himself, it destroys the possibility of a WIFOM.

 

So, in the end, I'd say it's up to the Mod.

 

Mafia is constantly evolving.  So, saying that something is in the norm on Mafiascum.net, shouldn't necissarily mean that it is in the norm here.  If that makes sense.
