It's July 1st, and by my standards that's time to start researching draft picks and the like.  For my part, I'm going to try to not be in jail on draft day, and do a better job working under the auto draft system.  For your part, *cough*Empy*cough*, I expect you to start to bring together people for me to humiliate on my way to the title.  I assume the draft will be in August, and generally it does take at least a month for us to send telegrams into the mountains where Paityr lives with his owls.  So let's form a league, or something. 

 

And by let's I mean someone besides me.  ;)

I want to play again. Hopefully my #1 pick won't be injured for the rest of the season after a couple of minutes in the first game. I will never forgive the Chiefs for that.

Any chance we can:

 

1) Not auto-draft and

 

2) Set up the roster composition based on number of teams (if we have 8 teams, like the bb league, let's have very deep rosters - 3 starting RBs, 2QBs and TEs, 5WR, etc.)

Yeah Kivam... I can edit roster positions before we go to draft (once we know the number of teams).

 

Once we have the league players up and running, we can poll to see how people feel about a live draft.  Then we have to decide on a time when people all over the place can do a live draft... etc.  It has always been way complicated in the past.  Plus I always do well so I can complain :P

I think a live draft sounds intereseting. It's still possible to set a pre-draft ranking for the people who miss the live draft, right?

Yes, Hax if you do a live draft and some people can't make it then it will autodraft those teams around their owners specifications.  The problem with that is it puts them on basically uneven footing.  Because a person who live drafts knows what they're working with (ie, they know in the fourth round that they've already got two RB's and a WR, so they can draft according to positional needs as well as the best player available) whereas the auto drafted team will just take whomever is the highest ranked on that coaches board (so in theory that team could be in round 4 sitting there with 3 RB's already and then it would auto-pick a fourth) 

 

People who live draft would have a big advantage.  I prefer the Live draft though, because you feel closer to your team, and drafts are just fun and awesome, plus I would clear my schedule if we had to autodraft at 3am (actually that would probably be better for me *g*), but for some reason others just don't take fantasy football as seriously and refuse to do simple things like call in sick to work with a Herpes flare up (Because no one ever questions that excuse). 

 

If we can do a live draft...AWESOME! but if there are people who can't make it and would feel cheated by the rest of us having one without them it would be unfair. 

 

Also a live draft with 12 people might take as long as three to four hours. *g*  Depending on how long certain people took to draft.  Of course the ones that I've been involved in that took that long usually also included heavy drinking and a UFC event on the big screen in someone's garage.

I would stay up all night for a live draft (unlike sex). The only problem is I'm going on a two week drinking binge starting August 18th, so if the draft will be in that time period I'll have to do some re-scheduling.

Never been part of FF, but since I watch football all the time, I think I should at least try it. So, if you have an open spot.  I could be around for a live draft if we stick to the mid-August timetable. I work the Minnesota state fair, though, so late August would not work in my schedule.

If I do not hear back from them in a week or two, I will begin inviting new managers in this order...

This is the 7th year I will have hosted DM's Football league.  Lets go down memory lane and see the results.

 

2002 - Seggie came in second... the guy who won first I don't remember

2003 - Oh this was the year I beat Karana in the finals... so sweet.  Pait came in third... this was the last time he did well in the playoffs...

2004 - Gon 1st, someone I dont know... and Empy in 3rd.. this was also the only year Jason joined and ignored his team all season...

2005 - Empy 1st... F Horn Second... Someone else third.. Pait last

2006 - the year of the 18 team league... what a disaster... 3 non dmers won the top 3 spots... Pait was 15th

2007 - The year Karana got her revenge beating me for the top spot... Soy's bro came in third... Pait second to last

2008 - I already recapped... but pait came in 5th!!!!

14 teams is a lot, but it also doesn't seem fair for Verby not to get in on this, and whipping up on Zasha could be fun.

 

Aside from that the W/T is a crap position anyway, so I say let Verb and Kivam in, and then Zash and thistle if the Chiefs and the Bengals...erm, I meant Horn and Sham aren't back for this year.

 

Also I'm pretty sure Soy is around.

I'm ambivalent on a live draft, however if we do one there needs to be some serious discussion on timing. Weekends are a 50/50 proposition for me being available.

 

As for 14 teams, sure whatever... may as well go to 16 at that point things will be so diluted.

 

Oh yeah, prepare to be completely dominated again this year!
