So we know that Rand is tall even within the Aiel (I think). He's certainly tall for a wetlander. I imagine him about 6ft6in but built well enough over the shoulders that he doesnt look lanky. (sigh  ::) :P).

Mat, is sometimes noted to be a bit shorter than Rand, but i've never imagined him short. Perrin I imagine is about the same as Mat, but well-built so as to appear stocky with the muscles et al.

However, in bk 11, towards the end, we have a few size-comparisons that confuse me a little.

When Faile is rescued from the collapsing building by Rolan and his two friends, she comments in her POV that one of the men is 'not quite as tall as Perrin but twice as wide' - christ! how wide IS the man?

Later, Mat is meeting Karede Furen and he comments (Karede) in his POV that Mat 'would not be called tall' - I never imagined him to be as tall as Rand, but certainly of a reasonable height, certainly at the side of Tuon?

Thats probably hyperbole.  I doubt that any human is actually twice as wide as Perrin ... at least any human who isn't grossly obese.

By comparison to Tuon, Mat is certainly tall, but that is only because Tuon is really short.  Karede can compare Mat to the average of people he has met, and Mat is average, maybe a touch over, but not really tall.

Rand - 6'6" ish

Perrin - 6'1" - 6'2"

Mat - 5'11" - 6' flat

Crikey how wide is Perrin!? My other half is 6' and 13st, and he's not skinny - for Perrin to appear visibly 'well built' at 6'1", he'd have to be what, 15 or 16stone? I read earlier in bk 11 (I dont remember what chapter, I've read a lot today) that it was 5 years since they had left Emonds' Field (I dont even remember the context, I think it was Egwene's POV though) so that makes the boys what - 23 or 24? Perrin was supposedly this well built before they ever left - at age 18 - is it possible for a blacksmith's apprentice to build himself up that much at such a juvenile age?

Perrin weighs about 235 to 240 lbs (about 17 stone), all muscle.  Probably about 56-58 inches (142-147 cm) around his chest and shoulders.  It has been roughly 3 years since they left the two rivers, making them 21 years old.

I doubt anyone is actually twice as wide as Perrin.  That description was probably hyperbole.

is Karede Furen tall? he could be comparing mat to himself. i always thought 6 feet would be tall for wetlands and like 6,9 for Aiel. i think baal (the cheif?) is like 7 foot 1 ro something, he was said to be biggest man ran has seen. so i think Rand would be around 6,9. i have always thoughr Mat was taller than Perrin, but not by much. so lets say Mat and perrin would be ranging from 5,10 to 6 feet.

I always have liked the way Robert Jordan has been so vague on hight and weight. Sometimes its fun to guess. I think the wonderboys (as opposed to the wondergirls) varied between 6' (Perrin) and 6'6" (Rand) with Mat in the middle and weight 240lbs. (Perrin)  200lbs. (Rand) and Mat approx. 175lbs.

That's just my guess.

I think there's some point in time in TFoH where they mention Mat being shorter than Melindhra by like two fingers or something...I think that puts him at about 5'10" or 5'11".

Certainly, the perspective on whether or not he is tall depends on where and whom he is with. Clearly with the Aiel he is considered a short man, while among his own in Emond's Field I think he considered quite tall.

I'll agree to disagree

Consider Perrin like a body builder in the off season at 6.2 and 235-240lbs. He probably has a 50-52 inch chest, 34 inch waist, biceps in the 20 inch range thighs about 24-25 inches. A big man, heavily muscled but no where near Arnold at his prime (6.4, 255-260, 57 inch chest, 24 inch biceps, 31-32 inch waist, 37 inch thighs).

I think that's a very fair basis of comparison.

I think its disturbing you know Arnolds mesures...  ;D

In my late teens I "threw some Iron" and "Arnold" was "the man". It's like saying you know that Babe Ruth hit 714 homeruns or Hank Aaron 755, or Damagio had a 56 game hiiting streak or Ted Williams was the last major leaguer to hit over 400.

But why would anyone want to know anything about major league?

Sport without a bit of mud and offside rules arent really sports..  ;D

Well then, It's like saying Pele was in incarnation of the one true god (of Futbol anyways) and all others mere false prophets.

The wheel of Time Wiki page RJ in a interview described all three wonderboys, supposedly Rand is 6'6, Mat is 5'10 and 165 pounds, Perrin is 6'1 or 6'2 and between 235-240 pounds.

That is about how i always saw them. I always though of Rand as very tall for a wetlander but only about average for an Aiel.

something to keep in mind. in the glossary its stated that 1 foot = 10 inches, and 1 pound = 10 ounces. so by those measurements, at 5'8" and 205 lbs, in the world of the wheel of time, id measure up to 6'8" and 328 lbs, but how is Perrin measured when hes described by RJ? is he 6'2" ish and 230-240 in normal measurements, 12inches to a foot and 16 ounces to a pound? or is he 6'2" and 240 in tWoT measurements, meaning that in our world he would only be about 5'2" and 150 lbs? ive always wondered about that.

I always had thought Perrin was getting weaker as time goes on. I mean, as a full time apprentice, thats like a 12 hour work out almost every day. By the end of the 11th book, he seems not to do too much physical stuff, because hes busy doing leader stuff. He must do toning down three years later.

Jordan was giving their measurements in English units, not Randland ones.

ok  :)

maybe less ripped, i have no doubt hed still be in formidible physical form, and the muscle you do repetative manual labour with is not the same as what you fight with.
