Did they just get wrecked by the seanchan when they attacked amador? The only one's i've heard about since then were asunwa and his questioners, who make up a small fragment of the main force, and the guy who took over from Niall who's name i can't remember and of course galad and dain. other then them, they just have seemed to vanish. what's up with that?

If I remember it right, the whitecloaks that were in the fortress (probably the majority of them) were taken captive by the Seanchan. Valda escaped with a chunk of them and those are who we see. Galad mentions rounding up the rest and freeing the prisoners. So they're just scattered about.

When the Seanchan took the fortress they probably rounded up a good number of high ranking officers, so it would take some time to recall all the children who are elsewhere, especially when you're constantly moving due to Seanchan patrols.

After the king of amador and his army was crushed by the seanchan, Valda and Asunawa allied with the seanchan. Galad didnt like this + some other things and challenged Valda to a duel, after killing him he might have/might not have taken over the remaining whitecloak force of 7000 men.

How many in each group?

No clear numbers but the impression was that galad led the bulk of those who were still not being used as forced labour by the Seanchen. Asunawa seems to be leading the questioners and a smaller amount of regular Children.

From the Encyclopaedia site, Valda's assault on Morgase (and supposed killing of her) was the reason for the confrontation.  The line does not mention the Seachan in either of their chronologies.

Don't forget they also lost almost 1,000 men in the battle of Falme.  Galad makes mention also how many Lord Captains fell during the fighting with the Seanchan after they attacked the Fortress of light.  So they have taken some heavy casulaties.

They probably made up for those losses prior to the return of the Seanchan due to increased recruiting due to Rand's rise to power. The Whitecloakes would definitely be an organization that some people would turn to in fear of him.

It's also stated by Suroth that the Whitecloaks who fought against the Seanchan attack on Amador were made da'covale--I imagine that includes a significant amount of them.

I'm guessing there are about 10,000 Whitecloaks in all. There's 7,000 with Galad moving North and there's some with Asunawa and the Seanchan, not to mention the bands of "Dragonsworn" Pedron Niall sent, although I'm sure the Seanchan dealt with a few of them, and also the da'covole taken in the Seanchan assault on the Fortress of the Light.

At the Battle of Jeramel (http://wot.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Jeramel) the majority of Amadacian troops and nobility were killed by the Seanchan, including Whitecloaks. Apparently, Valda made a truce with the Seanchan which is pretty much moot with the new Lord Captain Commander, Galad. Suroth was tempted to turn Asunawa and his Whitecloaks into da'covole but that's unlikely.

In conclusion, the split between the Children of the Light will unlikely be resolved as they are on separate sides of the Seanchan/Randland conflict and also the potential Seanchan/Aes Sedai conflict. I think Galad's Whitecloaks will be a larger force due to the Darkfriend uprisings that will come with the Last Battles.
