I know, i've been around here long enough to know better than to take offence!  ;)

Martine McCutcheon does actually normally have pale skin but I hadnt thought about Alanna, you're right she would do as either for me. I dont overly like Alanna as a character, because of what she did.

I forgot one - Thom. Grandpa Walton.

I forgot to add - Matt Damon could do Perrin if they darkened his hair. He's miserable-looking enough.

I dunno, I wouldn't want to cast anybody really famous in the WoT cast. I'm kind of going for B-Movie actors, and less-knowns: (and people in the appropriate age group.  ::)) A lot of them are TV stars, or big on BBC and whatnot. And yeah, yeah, I know... I spent a while on it, but I'm really bored right now, and thought it would be fun to come up with a list.

Rand - Alex Pettyfer

Perrin - Chris Egan

Mat - Matt Dallas

Egwene - Talulah Riley

Nynaeve - Missy Peregrym

Elayne - Carey Mulligan

Min - Allison Mack

Moraine - Kate Magowan

Lan - Ethan Hawke

Thom - Bill Nighy

Aviendha - Kristen Stewart

Birgitte - Jewel Staite

Gawyn - Ed Speleers

Galad - Tyron Leitso

Tuon - Caroline Chikezie

We could try a reverse question, viz., given some classic actresses and actors, who would you have them play?

For example, is there any character you would have Charlie Chaplin play? What about Cary Grant? Catherine Deneuve? Julie Garland? Orson Welles? Richard Burton? Elizabeth Taylor? Patrick Stewart? (I am jumping about a bit, of course.)

With a bit of makeup, and long hair of course, Cary Grant for Logain (boy, I don't think that will go down well, but why not?)

Also who plays Loial? How about the Someshta (the Green Man)? We need suitable makeup, of course.

Hey guys, check this guy out as a potential Rand al'Thor!

Gabriel Mann (See IMDB profile)

Why he would work: He isn't really famous so there is little risk that the actor would overshadow the character of Rand.  At 6ft 2in, he is tall enough to fill the role and red hair with blue/grey eyes.  He is about 34 but has kind of a baby face so he could work both as Two Rivers Rand and the Dragon Reborn. He's got the acting chops too.

What are your thoughts?

I like that Rand, Myndrunner. I have thought on the High Lord Weiramon. I don't know his name, but Professor Lockhart, from Harry Potter's second movie. He definetly can play the idiot. And I've heard he has played King Richard in the past also, so he must be good at dramatics. If anyone can give us his name and also your opinion. I would appreciate it.

Bonzo,

Keneth Branagh (Prof. Gilroy Lockheart) would be great, but he is such a great actor, casting him as Weiramon would be a waste of his talents, IMO.  I think he would be better suited for one of the Forsaken; of course, I am of the mindset that a good WoT film/series should only have a very small handful famous actors.

Using talented, yet not too famous, actors who look and act the part will not only be $$$ effective, but it would also keep the actors themselves from overshadowing the characters they play.  I like Branagh as an Asmodean or maybe a special appearance as Luc the Slayer.

As for Wiermon, I always saw the guy from Army of Darkness who first gets into it with Ash.  I think his name was goldtooth or something.  Anyways, Wiermon was kind of that character for me.  Or Wallace Shawn.

Course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong...... -Mynd

Here is my vote for Thom Merrilin from an earlier post (that got locked cuz it wasn't on this one :( )

Hal Hollbrook

In my humble opinion, Hollbrook would make a great Thom.  He certainly has the acting chops, getting the Oscar nod for his performance in Into the Wild last year.  He has an extensive broadway background, so he can speak in high chant, and.....well, look at the guy.  He looks like Thom Merrilin.

If they ever do get a WoT series going, I hope they read this thread!

When I think of Rand, Lan and Perrin, I picture guys who would have gone to the NFL as first round draft picks.  I know Rand isn't really HUGE, but RJ said he was 6'5" to 6'6".  I remember reading a quote where he was talking about WoT going to the movies, but he said something like where are you going to find a red-headed actor who is six foot five?

For Lan, I thought of Peter Koch - he is probably around the age that Lan is supposed to Look - maybe a little older, but he could be made to look a little younger.  You probably know him best from Heartbreak Ridge where he played Private Johansson the Swede.  You know, the hulking brute they brought in to kick Dirty Harry's butt.  He has that square face and piercing eyes (though i dunno what he looks like today).

Rand - I have not a clue.

Perrin - I have him pictured in my mind, but no one seems to match it.

The film would obviously have to star a plethora of unknown talent to match the characteristics and to keep the budget down.

Uhm, they do not have steroids in Randland. Or gyms. The kind of muscles these characters would have is the real thing. Imagine weighing 150 kilos, add armour to that, and then fight a battle for several hours. Had Lan been built like a NFL monster, he would not be able to move five minutes into a fight.

I hear ya about Rand, and we may not be able to find a redhead who is 6'5" and short of Carrot Top, I don't know many red heads who are bulked up.  Still, Gabriel Mann is nearly 6'3" so that's close enough, and I believe he has a Rand look (red hair, greyish blue eyes).

Perrin and Lan were always bulky guys in my mind, but Mat and Rand were just tall but not big on the muscles.  At least, not when leaving Two Rivers for the first time.  Chris Pratt (Everwood) is, so far, the actor that comes closest to Perrin in my mind.  He has the look and build, but I am not sure he could  pull off Perrin's personality.

Chris Pratt

Now, Lan is one that I think actually should be a recognizable name, someone that audiences new to WoT will recognize instantly as a tough guy.  Here are two candidates:

18373947.jpg

Gerard Butler (Timeline)

clive02.jpg

Clive Owen (King Arthur)

Both are highly recognizable for being tough guys and both have donned plate armor before.  Butler was great as Merrick in the movie Timeline while Owen was one of the few things I enjoyed of King Arthur.  Both guys are rugged looking with sensitive blue eyes holding back an unknown pain.

Now, as for the NFL comment...do we need to have the Ta'veren drug tested now?  I hear the Black Tower has begun random screenings lately.  ;)

Well, NFL first round picks aren't all big hulking brutes either.  I mean cut and muscular guys for Rand - something like a tall strong safety.

I pictured Peter Koch as an older guy (20 years older than the guy on Heartbreak Ridge) and not quite as bulked up.  His facial features is what I really imagined - older and harder.

The books also talk about Lan being taller than Perrin, but also being almost as big in his upper body. Remember Perrin freeing Gaul and Gaul saying that it took like 3 guys or more (can't remember off hand) to do what he did alone.  That takes a pretty muscular guy.

For Lan and Rand, I am thinking something along the lines of Remy Bonjasky.

Perrin would be a bit bulkier, being a blacksmith and all, but it would still be real muscles, not nfl or Schwartzenegger-style.

Not taking anything away from Perrin, but being a blacksmith and working with metal for as long as he has, he also knows about leverage and things like that. I don't think the townspeople that hung Gaul were all that bright, where Perrin, with his knowledge and strength was able to do what it took 3 men.

I just looked up Koch on google.  I think he's TOO bulky for Lan, and I don't think he's acting much anymore.  If anyone, I see him playing Couladin, the hot-headed Shiado, fake Carney'carn.

Actually, this is the guy I see playing Couladin:

Well, like I said, that was in like 1986, he is 20 years older and im sure not as bulky, but his face fits.

For Perrin I was thinking Brock Lesner, but in his younger years when he wasn't as bulky, like in this picture when he wrestled (not pro crap)

Meh.. it isn't rocket science.  Not like he had a system of pullies and stuff to work with and utilize to maximum advantage.  Just grab the rope, use your wieght and strength.  Any idiot could figure that out.  They were also soldiers, so I am sure they weren't weak by any means.

It was enough to impress someone not easily impressed.  Aeil don't hand out compliments enless it really means something.

Yes, Collegiate wrester Brock Lesnar looks very close to the Perrin I imagined through the books, but without the buzz cut and the tattoos.

Now, at the risk of committing a mortal sin here......what about Channing Tatum for Perrin?  He's the guy from Stop Loss and Step Up, and he is playing Duke in the upcoming G.I. Joe film.  Don't get me started on that last bit, that mess is for the Seachan Org. He has the build of a blacksmith and I can see him making Perrin expressions, like "Wha? Faile? Berelain? Who? Wolves!"

Dunno, your thoughts?

Well, Tatum at least has a somewhat normal body, unlike that brock-fella who looks more like a trolloc. (and with that much steroids, probably the brain of a trolloc as well). But there is something about his face that is just...meh. And since IMDB says he is from Alabama, I am quite sceptical about his accent.

Posted

Yeah, I just earned like 4 toh for even mentioning his name.  He actually has more of a wanna-be Eminem accent than Alabama, like John Cena from the WWE.

Is this Perrin?

10947827_1197143342_216723xl.jpg

Probably not....and in most other pictures, he looks like he is about to take a math test he didn't study for....so, SURVEY SAYS.....X

Brock didn't look all roided out when he wrested in college, but he's kinda fugly and I don't see Perrin like that.  So far, Chris Pratt is the closest I have come to matching the Perrin I imagined while reading.

For your consideration: I submit to you you Anton Yelchin as Mat Cauthon.

anton_yelchin_1171467649.jpganton_yelchin_alpha_dog_8.jpganton_yelchin_alpha_dog.jpg

Resume: Hearts in Atlantis, Alpha Dog, Charlie Bartlett, upcoming Star Trek movie, plays Reese in Terminator 4

Why he would work: He has the look and that "up-to-no-good" grin, but also an innocence about him. He would be able to play both the scary Mat from the first two books and the gambler of the rest. Great acting resume, would be a commanding presence.

Why he would not work: Only 5'9" would be able to fill Mat's shoes?

What do you all think?  Mat or not Mat?

Already, Mat is up to his old tricks, wooing high ladies of Hollywood....

Sigh... stereotyping.

Ok, here is a candidate for Nynaeve.

Milena Govich

Resume: Law & Order, some other show

Why she would work: She can give a good scowl with authority, she plays the tough girl very well

Thoughts?
