He's talking about Red Eagle Entertainment.

Here's a quote from an old Dragonmount news story:

"Red Eagle Entertainment, a company dedicated to building global value in entertainment

franchises through a comprehensive program of brand management and licensing, holds

the worldwide film and television distribution rights to Robert Jordan’s The Eye of the World, as well as ancillary rights. Red Eagle Entertainment intends to expand Jordan’s already passionate fan base with a tightly-linked combination of quality entertainment programming coupled with a wide assortment of licensed products and branded merchandise."

They were the ones who did the New Spring graphic novel, which is their only project as far as I was aware of.  I'm pretty sure it was this that Jordan was disappointed in.  I know they didn't even finish  the adaptation, and basically stopped releasing issues like halfway through.  I don't know if he was disappointed in the quality, or the distribution and marketing (for some reason I think it was this).  Their website is basically completely blank these days (just a logo and an e-mail address) where before it used to have a few more links and features on it, so part of me thinks they're all but defunct right now.  It's too bad, because it doesn't look like we'll see the WoT "brand" branching out anytime soon (although, this might end up being a good thing.)

Red Eagle will soon if not already lose their rights to WOT. Rumors are already floating around about SciFi channel optioning WoT as a series of 3 episode Mini-Series one for each book from what I have been hearing, but nothing is confirmed it's all 10th hand rumors, a friend of a friend who knows a guy who talk to the janitor in the building where someone said something that was over heard, kinda thing.

We can only hope.

Red Eagle attempted to produce an 8 issue graphic novel of New Spring.  They got as far as book 5 before it all fell apart.  They are totally unprofessional and incompetent.  I am happy RJ was displeased with their unacceptable performance.  I certainly am.

Hopefully the rights will go to someone who will do the series justice.  I am of the opinion that a good job could be done if the books were to be translated into movie form.  I'm not a huge fan of the comparison, however, visually and story-wise they did a pretty good job with the LoTR (albeit those books were about half the length), and a lot of the descriptive language RJ uses can be effectively translated into film in much less "space" and time than in a novel.  The idea is that ANY more contact with RJ's world of the WoT would be most welcome.

The graphic novel format would also be acceptable.  I never was a "comic book" fan, but the artists who produce graphic novels now-a-days are highly talented and sophisticated.  Before it fell apart, the New Spring series produced a nice visual link to RJ's world of tWoT.

Guess I am glad I never had the pelesure to read anything by Red Eagle. ;) .

As far as WoT time movie, For some one to even think on it, well its a major production. I do not see anyone willing to do all the books, while we all love TWOT, not sure it would be main stream enough to make them cash.  Can you imagine the production cost on the series?  I hope if they ever do make it, it will be didgital and not live action.

I'd prefer a mini series on SciFi, but hell, thats just me and my DVR talking. ;)

I think a movie would have to be far to rushed to make an accurate potrayal of the books, and they'd have to leave to much out. A series, not a mini series mind you but a real full fledged series, would be grand.

With a miniseries we'd be talking something like 6 hours per book which isn't too bad.  I'd like to think that these books could be accurately fit to the screen in 6 hours.

If we look at Return of the King, they almost got it done, and almost did a good job, in 4 hours but they left out a bunch of stuff, most notably, the scouring of the Shire, which bugged the hell out of me.  If the ride of the rohirrim wasn't done so well, I'd have called it a failure.

My concern is this.  Have you watched a scifi original?  I've never exactly been impressed.

I agree about the SciFi Originals being unimpressing, but also a movie would not do justice to the WoT books.

Also consider this: The storyline (not to mention the characters) is very twisted, in-depth, somehow confusing. As an example, lets take Mat's character, his transformation from a troublemaking woolheaded prankster, gambler, thru infection of tha dagar and later on with all the past memories in his head and so forth... it would be time consuming to bring out his character

As for series or mini-series go, I think most of the audience would only be mostly WoT readers, with a few converts. There is too much to incorperate within an hour or two. (I could be wrong) though it would be nice to see what can be put out there for viewers...
