As promised, I am getting my ideas for the fresh start for the Band started. The first set of ideas I am introducing are a set of quizzes. The topic for this quiz is:

HISTORY

The Rules

- The main rule of this thread is NO SPAMMING. Only post threads connected with the question ask or any previous question. Any spam will be deleted.

- This is a place for us to talk about interesting facts concerning history, and to see how clever we are.

- The person who posts the first correct answer will post the next question ONCE it is confirmed correct by the original asker.

I will start the thread off with a True/False question.

Was the Battle of Hasting in 1066 fought at Hastings?

It is indeed false. The Battle of Hastings was fought on Senlac Hill. Hastings just happened to be the nearest town.

*pats his Horrible History books nicely*

Now Northie needs to find us a History question...

*grins*

Lady Jane Grey was Queen for 9 days after Edward VI before Mary I had her exceuted. This was because Edward, like his father Henry VIII was a protestent, as was Jane. Whereas, Mary, daughter of Katherine of Aragon and Henry VIII was a devote Catholic. Mary later on went ot earn the name "Bloody Mary" after all the protestents she had burned at the stake. Elizabeth I, daughter of Anne Bowlyn and Henry VIII, was a protestent, but in public she was a Catholic during her half sister, Mary's reign. Mary consistently suspected her of treason and Elizabeth was sent away for a number of years to be kept in solitude. Mary married the King of Spain, but a child never appeared. It is believed Mary died of cancer. Elizabeth then took the throne, and after some conflict and court scandel, declared herself married to England and never took a husband. Her cousin, James Stuart, then King of Scotland, was her sucessor, and Britain was born as the two kingdoms were finally joined under one ruler after hundreds of years of blood shed on the border between Scotland and England.

I could go on and on...but i won;t bore you all to death :D

I would have said Matilda as well...but I haven't found anywhere that has said she was crowned "Queen of England". I have also looked for earlier queens, but haven't found anything concrete. Boudaccia, who was the leader of the British forces against the Romans, is one name that springs to my mind, but I am not 100% sure if she was 'crowned' "Queen of England".

Anyway...

Seryanne...it's is question time for you!

*jumps dazedly to attention*

Sorry sir! I was in the bar! :D

I always remember the film about Lady Jane Grey... It had helena bonham carter and cary elwes in it, and i think it was the first thing i'd seen patrick stewart act in that wasn't star trek, lol!

OK, history is not my strong point, so apologies for the lameness of this question :D

(speaking of kings and queens)
