I really like corn tortillas - they are pretty rare here (in the supermarket at least) but for a while you could get them in yellow and blue 100% corn varieties; they were vacuumed packed and came out of the packaging smelling pretty rank, but when I was eating gluten-free having real tortillas was fantastic. But in general corn tortillas here means flour ones with some added corn flour.

These are tacos. These are like you would get at a Mexican place or taco truck. Corn tortilla, shredded beef, or pork, or even fish, nice seasonings and cilantro, onions and cheese, maybe some chiles or salsa. Yummy

when i googled for.a.picture there was one labelled "white people tacos" with what I would describe as we.have taco.bell.at.home tacos. Still good but not in the same league.

They do look good. Really should have brought some food with me today, stuck here for another three and half hours and all I have are some breath mints, lol.

Packaged for shipping corn tortillas do have a unique aroma in part due to the lard used in making them.

I used to prefer flour when I was younger but now I really enjoy the texture of corn tortillas, either fried or just warmed.

I guess you can make tacos around a campfire.

I found a recipe online for some campfire tacos.

Easy Camp Tacos by Amanda Outside

Tacos might be one of my all-time favorite meals. Once the meat is cooked, all you have to do is layer on the toppings and you have yourself an impressive camp dinner!

Servings:6 tacos
Prep Time:5minutes mins
Cook Time:15minutes mins
Total Time:20minutes mins

Equipment

  • Camp Chef Everest Stove
  • Lodge 10-inch Cast Iron Skillet

Ingredients

Taco Meat:

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 white onion (diced)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • 1 8 oz can of tomato sauce
  • 1 Tbsp ghee or cooking oil

Taco Toppings:

  • flour tortillas
  • sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • lettuce
  • tomatoes
  • avocado
  • cilantro
  • sour cream
  • salsa

Instructions

  • Warm a cast-iron pan over the camp stove to medium heat. Add in the ghee or cooking oil followed by the ground beef and diced onion.
  • Break the meat apart with your spatula and mix frequently until the meat has browned.
  • In the meantime, open the can of tomato sauce. After about 5 minutes, add the taco seasoning and the tomato sauce to the beef. Mix until combined.
  • Turn the heat to medium-low and let the beef simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add water to the mix as needed so that it doesn't dry out or burn.
  • While the meat is cooking, get your toppings chopped and ready.
  • Once the beef is done, assemble your tacos. Layer some cheese, taco meat, and toppings onto a flour tortilla and serve!

Notes

Don't forget to bring a can opener or buy tomato sauce with the easy-open can. To make things even easier, you can cook the taco meat at home and pack it in the cooler. Then at camp, all you have to do is reheat the taco meat and assemble!

That sounds workable.  The only thing I'm sure about would be the tomato sauce. I guess since it is not too much it should be nice. Just don't want them too wet. Maybe add a little Chile, not too hot.

Tacos are basically a sandwich. You can put next to anything in them.

I can't do cilantro. It tastes like lemon washing up liquid.

Wait cilantro is just coriander?

Maybe it's something else I can't do. It might be lemon grass. I know that I really don't enjoy whatever tastes like lemon in Thai food. So whatever that is.

It'd a rare bright warm day here today! The first day we've been able to leave the back door open this year!

Maybe we will have a 'more than one BBQ' summer this year. Would food around the campfire also include BBQ food?

If it does, then I really like the minty lamb steaks you can get 🙂

And proper sausages. In my home town, my local butcher would make these spiced tomato sausages that were just the best. My dad used to bring some up when he came to visit.

I looked them up, to see if they were still about and might have some kind of online delivery services but they are no more!

Though it may vary in different parts of the world. I swear Scottish basil is a hundred times tastier than Dutch basil.

Which one is flat, and which is curly? I always get then confuzzled. Oh no, that's parsley.
