[Green Ajah Nature Week] Walk Through the Weird

Napa Valley:

 

 

alright peoples, this is some gorgeous country to be hiking through. and yes while its known for its wine we're taking a different path. so keep up, dont get distracted cuz we're going to go look at some wood! 

 

 

yes seriously. stop complaining that you see wood all the time. stop it. 

 

this is super special wood i'm talking about. PETRIFIED wood. 

 

technically a petrified forest. some of the largest pieces actually

 

 

 

 

It's practically magic, wood turning into stone but maintaining its form. go ahead climb on it if you want

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wales:

 

we're going back to the water for this one. now be careful, we're going to be dealing with an animal nearly extinct and a species that is known for being dangerous. so everyone into the shark tank, and keep your limbs inside if you please. 

 

as recently as this past july an extremely rare shark thats on the brink of extinction was seen off the coast of wales. the angel shark: 

 

only a few thousand survive so its a rare sighting indeed

 

 

 

 

 

 

New Zealand:

alright out of the water and onto the beach! hmmmm.....it seems we've drifted a bit... *looks around* this seems to be new zealand. man those currents are crazy. well best to look around. 

 

ok so we had a look at rocky trees earlier now we're going to go see some rocks. just walk along this beach here and you'll see what i'm talking about

 

 

 

pretty neat huh? and yeah those are totally natural formations

thats really cool elgee, you can definitely see where myths and ideas of ufo's and what not surround those clouds. would be really awesome to see in person. share your photos!

That is actually a beautiful shark. Never really thought of there being sharks off the coast of Wales, but there you go.

 

And those round rocks are awesome. They make me think of turtles. Amazing how they are naturally occurring.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica: 

 

 

rainforest ho! 

 

so this time its not so much the oddness of what we're looking at, as you can see its a really really lush forest. but rather the oddity of its lushness. to better show you *sends up a drone*

 

 

see how much more lush the right side is from the left? well thats all due to the dumping of 12,000 metric tons of orange peels. as a sort of experiment and orange juice company along with researchers, dumped all their used peels from production on this land. 17 years later theres a 176 % increase in plantlife. 

 

 

 

 

now, anyone want some juice?

I read about that the other day, Cross (the orange thing) and I thought it was pretty amazing!

That petrified wood was not far from where I grew up!

haha so did i elgee. when i was looking up costa rica it popped up again and i was like 'well. thats it then'

 

 

rhea did you ever visit it?

[Rhea]

Oh for sure! There are petrified woods all over the area. Some of them the general public doesn't know about and the locals just go hang out. I can remember being in an area with some friends and we stumbled over a petrified log (huge) that none of us had ever seen before. It was pretty cool!

aw that would be awesome. so strange that there are so many in that area. makes you wonder why its not a more prominent phenomena

I know! Many of them only the locals know about. The tourists only want to see the BIG ones. :)
