I hated the whole dragon mystery and thought it wasted time/story line. Every non-reader I recommended the show to figured it out by episode 3. While I know some people liked it, I considered it a waste of time. I believe this was a studio decision, not the production team’s.

I think this season has brought me back from the brink and I am really looking forward to season 4. I thought the weakest episode for season 3 for me were E5 and E7. I was really looking forward to battle in E7 and was disappointed, not saying it was bad, I was just hoping for so much more.

Okay. I thought that guy lived. but fair enough.

As a book lover, I must admit that I was initially disappointed with the first season of the show. I gave it a C-, and I gave season 2 a B. However, I’m thrilled to say that season 3 has completely turned things around! It’s been a solid A for me. Sure, there are a few minor issues, but they’re nothing too significant.
When the show was first announced, I recommended it to my friends and family, telling them that the books were incredibly good. Unfortunately, most of them didn’t come back for season 2. I told them I was really enjoying season 3 and that they should give it another chance, but they were hesitant about having to go through season 2. Now I am wondering if I should just recommend they just watch certain episodes of season 2, just the ones need to get them into season 3. Just not sure which ones I could have them skip and still understand season 3?

I am really excited now for season 3, special after my disappointment with the first two seasons. I thought season 1 had more bad moments than good ones. Season 2 was much better, but still had some story lines that were just not needed and Season 2 episode 8 was a real downer. After the first watch of the sneak peak, I was just so excited for the season to begin. After watching it again, I can see some of the flaw that others have written about, but I think that is just nit picking at this point. This is an excellent start and let's hope they keep it up. I know they have to make changes to the story and I don't mind changes to the story, just hate changes that are not needed. Hopefully they are getting back to the book this season.

My biggest question is about the weave used on Verin. Is this a sign Verin knew her protege was Black all along? If she did, it's curious why she would choose her to be in the vault at that moment...

Alright so I didn’t read all the posts in this thread, I’ll admit. But I just finished a rewatch of season 2 in prep for season 3 and got to get out some thoughts.
#1: In the past I think my love of the books made me too critical. Season 2 is actually, for the most part, good Tv!
#2: the actors/actresses did an amazing job; Egwene, as a damane, wow. Madeline is amazing. The facial expressions. The hand shaking as she finally touches the vase & then screaming. The “steel” in her. So well done.
#3: what the writers did with the Forsaken (mostly) is actually an improvement on the books. Establishing that Ishy and Lanfear and Lews were the best of friends (sort of) and that Lews and Lanfear really want to turn Rand to the dark rather than hurt him. But they have different motivations and actually even work against each other. And then that Moggy and the other Forsaken won’t be as … helpful. All of it. Well done.
#4: the special effects and fighting were better than I remember when I watched it the first time.
Ok. But now I do have to get in a couple criticisms too. Episode 8 was bad writing. Truly. And my #1 critism would be … What in the world are the writers doing with the mechanics/lore of the Shadar Logoth dagger?
I mean even if I knew nothing about it and set aside all book knowledge… I would go “ummm - so it’s tainted and evil and you can’t touch it - but you can put it on a pole and then you’re fine?”
“And Fain would just - give it up - cause Ishy said so?”
“And It’s a lightsaber that melts through things and insta kills - but it’s not a insta kill on Rand?”
#2 would be … “so Moiraine must be the most powerful channeler ever right? I mean, from a beach a long ways away she takes down a fleet of ships that had 14 channelers on it shielding Rand. And then she puts that dragon in the sky from that distance too? All the damane just shoot fireballs from a tower and then can’t block stones flying at them. Power wise she’s got to be the best right?”
#3 would be … “wow, for a Forsaken, Ishy must be a terrible fighter huh? Cause it seems like Lanfear can flick of the wrist handle Moiraine and Suian and whoever she wants, but Moggy. But Ishy can’t figure out how to get through Egwene’s shield? And then Perrin getting a hero of the horn shield somehow helps her shield?”
Alright. Ending on a positive note. Season 1 got screwed up with Covid and Barney leaving. Season 2 got screwed up with a writers strike.
I think S3 can be really good! The actors and actresses are amazing. Most of the writing has been very good. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of the Forsaken and more of Matt & Perrin (2 of my fav book characters of all time)!
These were my exact thoughts, you hit the nail on the head here. I really hated that they let Egwene escape without any help at all. I think they are missing that one of the points of the books is how they all need each other to defeat the dark one and none of they can do it without help.

Exactly correct. For example, I think it was a bad idea to frame season one the way they did. “Who is the Dragon?” just didn’t work. I think it was probably someone’s too clever by half attempt to get people invested in the characters, but the story just isn’t structured to make that a viable choice.
I agree, all of the non book people I recommend to watch the show had it figured out to be Rand by episode 2. Which surprised me, thought it would have taken non book people longer to figure it out. Wonder if this was just the people I recommend it to or was this pretty common?
-
My biggest fear still is all the material that has to be covered in just eight episodes. Just not sure how they can do it all justice. All the stuff Rand alone needs to do could fill the eight episodes.
I would agree, but they waste so much time coming up with their own story line, which would be fine if they had more episodes. Since they don't, how about staying on the original story and not add stuff.

i don't want to argue on the general merit, or lack thereof, of the tv show, nor on the general work of rafe &co, nor am i interested in whom to blame in the long list of people with power to write or dictate or in any way influence the plot.
but i have to express disagreement on that paragraph. none of the things you mention is even remotely important in the large scale plot - except perhaps perrin having a wife that dies shortly after, which is mildly important at best.
by "not important" i mean, if you were tasked to write a one-page summary of the wheel of time, it wouldn't mention any of that stuff.
I think the only things I hated in the first episode was the "Perrin has a wife? Matt's a POS scumbag?". I have lots of issues with other episodes, but those manly revolve around them just making up whole episodes that have nothing to do with the story and I felt like they were written poorly. I have rank season 1 as a C- and season 2 as a B-, hoping Season 3 will move to a A. The hard thing for me is how bad they have handled both season final. The trailer is giving hope.
-
Had they done a better job with Perrin and Matt's characters (and of course Rand) a lot of the criticism of the changes would have been less. People are willing to accept some changes if you keep their favorite characters interacting well. If we got book true Matt, Perrin and Rand I bet 50% or better of the criticisms you see would be significantly less.
This is a great statement and I agree 100%.

Well done, really liked most of her points. I force myself to finish season one, just because I loved the book so much. I thought season two was better, still lots of issue. Just hope that season3 improves from season 2 as season 2 did from season 1

We might also be limiting the definition of shadowspawn too narrowly. Seems highly unlikely that Aes Sedai would limit themselves against human agents in this way.
Wondering if the oaths do not apply to the truth as we see it, but what the Aes Sedai believes? If she believes something then the oaths will apply to that belief correct?
-
The Forsaken are the Shadow's leaders. The shadowspawn follow their commands, and the darkfriends follow them too.
Moiraine knows that the Forsaken are in the list by default, since they command the two groups the Oath mentions.
They are the example the darkfriends all aspire to be. You saw Ishamael's talk to the little girl, and how he used the interaction with the Trolloc to influence her. The implication is that being a darkfriend has no age limit.
A little girl would do just fine as one, and expected to follow their oath of allegiance to the utmost as well.
That's is the way I have always seen it

I use AppleTV and yes the Prime UI sucks, not sure why they won't fix it. Their Marketing also sucks, they have lots of issues, but what they charge compared to others is not an issue for me. Also they have good shows, just no one can find them.
-
In my case getting Prime Video was kind of free because we had Prime already, so spending $36 a year for no commercial is pretty cheap streaming service.

I normally go to wheeloftime.fandom.com to check myself: Under the TV Three Oaths they have this comment: The Three Oaths are an adaption of the oaths of the same name which is a link to were I got the ones above. So they may be wrong, will need to check the books again

You are quite correct! I should maybe pay more attention to what people post and what I reply ... I'm a BAD Mother 🤪
The Three Oaths
"Under the Light and by my hope of salvation and rebirth, I vow that I will speak no word that is not true."
"Under the Light and by my hope of salvation and rebirth, I vow that I will make no weapon for one man to kill another."
"Under the Light and by my hope of salvation and rebirth, I vow that I will never use the One Power as a weapon except against Shadowspawn, or in the last extreme of defending my life or that of my Warder or another sister."I thought it was the following from the books, but I could be wrong:

this argument just has no basis in fact whatsoever. In the books Egwene's plot actually takes up more time then Rands at various points, in season 1 Rafe didn't talk about Rand because he didn't want to spoil who the dragon was for non book viewers. In season 2 he is right, from book 2 Rand is not the main Protagonist, he is one in an ensemble piece and Robery Jordan spent a lot of time and gave a lot of page time to the E4 having focused on Rand when he thought there would only be 3 books to tell the story in.
Saying after 2 seasons of the characters all broadly following the same story themes they did in the books gives no indication that anyone wanted Egwene as the Dragon. I mean Brandon would have come out and made that statement and i have not seen that anywhere (correct me if I am wrong) and not based on opinion, but based on fact of Rafe saying to him I don't want rand ot be the Dragon reborn.
I also dont see anywhere a "fear" of gendered chanelling, it has been really clear to my non book reading friends so far that there are 2 halfs to the power,I think you missed were I said "I have felt like", this was my opinion, did not say it was fact or should affect anyone else opinion. Guess I should just not make comments on how I see things.

For the price I think Apple has the best quality for streaming shows. Even shows that are not my cup of tea seem to be really well done. I also like that they seem to not cancel shows as much as other streamers. I would recommend Severance, Silo, For All Mankind and Foundation, if you comedies that have some really good ones.
