Scissors... i never managed to cut things straight ?

@Asha'man Shar'amanThat's an interesting story you shared. One of my daughters really struggles with the anger she feels.  She's young but I know that breathing exercises won't be enough.

I - on the other hand - usually feel angry at myself more than at other people. That's another tough fight ? Trying not to always aim for perfection, and settle for things that are "good enough".

I can't cut anything either! This is mostly due to me being left handed, but still...

Breathing exercises never help me. It feels stupid, and I hate when people tell me to just breathe. The Flame and the Void is helpful if you have time, but it takes a lot of practice, and sometimes you don't have that time in an argument.

I am sorry about that. I know how it feels to not be good enough. I struggle with that as well, especially since I have a lot of things that separate me from other people, and it makes it hard sometimes. One of the things that makes me feel different or not good enough is that I have synesthesia, and I can never explain what I see or feel to other people. Every time I try, they never get it, and it feels like I can't explain well enough to let them understand. They won't understand what it feels like to see colors every time I think of someone or something, and the sense that comes with it. Just try to remember that you are good enough, even if it doesn't feel like it.

  2. Step forward, @Arie

You have earned enough points to be raised to Dedicated.

And, congratulations!!!! It seems you get raised every time I do! Hopefully this pattern will continue!

Apparently our Warders are! LoL ... always knew they rocked.

Why thank you, Mother. The Aes Sedai might not show up because they are far more prominent in the books than the Warders, so there is more info to drown it out.

    How To Build A Campfire

    Welcome to our campfire ?

This week we celebrate our victory against the Seanchan but let's go further in this thread!

    ***

Let's share our own victories, our own fights and battle stories.

    Old ones, new ones,

    all tales are welcome !

    ***

    I'll start with a light one ?

I finally managed to draw a good looking hand (yes, really XD). I always thought it was impossible for me to draw a pretty  realistic hand and so I never really tried it ... up until recently.

    What about yous ?

Good looking hands are really hard to draw!

I was almost always big for my age, and as a result, I have ended up rather like Perrin, slow and thoughtful, scared of hurting someone. But my anger is rather like Rand's. It will flare up really quickly, and sometimes I act before I can even think about what I am doing. This terrifies me. My greatest fear is hurting someone I care about, or not being able to protect them. Because of this, I am in a constant battle to control my anger, and to find a good way to get rid of it. But it is really hard to do. I have finally managed to enter the Void, which is a big help, but sometimes I can't even get the flame to stay, let alone spend five minutes with it. This is where you wonderful people come in. My memories of DM are always a quick way to make me laugh, or to calm me down. I love the things you say, and the people you are. One of my favorite memories is when a month or so after I had joined the Warders, @JamesBrown showed up to my graduation thread, and congratulated me. I found this hilarious at the time, but now it is a moment that can remind me that there is good in the world, and that I am not alone. I have too many favorite memories to share, but I just wanted you guys to know that you play a big part in my life, and in helping me control the thing I fear the most. Thank you for that.

  5. You know the drill. Or you should, anyway, since everyone has been here a while. Name, rank and faction. 5 points for that, and 5 for answering this question: Books or movies?

    Aman

    Dedicated

    Light

Books are usually better in my opinion, but I also like movies. I am currently watching all of Marvel for the first time, and while I am sure the comics are great, I am really liking the movies. So overall, books, but movies are also good.

I've just made an advertising thread for us over at the Forums, and of course it asks you to add Tag words.

I put in the usual: Aes Sedai, Warders, Ajah, Novice, Accepted, etc.

Then I decided to check what comes up when I google those words. Nothing. Not a single thing links back to DM ... till I came to this!!

I have to admit, I never thought anyone Googling my name would give anything. Thanks for the work, Mother!

Hi Aman and thank you for your welcome!

Just to reply to your question I'm reading WoT in English.

I could find those books in my mother language too (I'm Italian) but after reading Abercrombie's The first law i think is much better when you can read a book in the original language it has been written. Translations, always loose something, in my opinion.

I can agree with that. The only book I have read that wasn’t originally written in English was The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and I am fairly certain some things were lost in the translation from French to English.

Have you had a favorite part in WoT?

your aes sedai can indeed travel, there is a guard outside her room. after the oath you are free as a bird. if the women take the oath was well they are free to move. the healer cannot channel, if she could she would now be damane

    Thank you!

The women with me take the oath as well, and we go to see my Aes Sedai. I ask the Healer if we might have a moment alone with my Aes Sedai. She leaves the room, (if she doesn’t then I will knock her unconscious). I tell the women to close their eyes and I make sure they are closed.  My Aes Sedai quickly opens a Skimming gateway to the woods outside Tar Valon. I tell the women they can open their eyes, and we all jump in. The gateway closes behind us. We emerge into the area around Tar Valon, with the women, and my Aes Sedai free of the oath. As a Malkieri, I have tainted my honor, but that is a problem for another time. For now, we are safe and back  near the White Tower.

one of the perks of being an overthinker. whose partner is also good at finding loopholes. i've had years of training

the officer is convinced she is ill, but he is also well trained. not about to let a soul through without taking the oath or facing the consequence, you're directed back into the heart of the seanchan, always escorted you're led down the road in the direction OPPOSITE your desired path. the town you arrive at is overrun by seanchan. the healer watched, you accompanied. you have avoided the oath momentarily as your aes sedai is given a bed and some respite. YOU are separated and  cornered by the seanchan, demanding you take the oath, as others wait for your aes sedai to 'wake' enough to face it on her own

    Clearly! These are very interesting!

I will take the oath (My Aes Sedai’s safety is worth more than my honor. Take that as you will).

Before I begin, can I have some more information? I don’t want to assume like I did last time. Can my Aes Sedai Travel? Is there a guard in the room with my Aes Sedai? After I swear the oath, am I free to move around? Are the women with me free to move as well? Can the healer channel?

...but is a beginning! Even if it's only my beginning here on Dragonmount.

For many years I have been afraid to start my adventure with The Wheel of time, 14 books is huge mountain!

Well, one year ago I have finally decided and I have begun my first book. Last week I have finished "A crown of swords" so I think I'm doing well by now.

This week I have also discovered this place and... let's try a new beginning!

p.s. English is not my mother tongue, so forgive me when I make mistakes ?

Hello! My name is Asha’man Shar’aman, but since that’s a bit long, you can call me Aman if you want.

I would think aCoS in a year would be really good!

Dragonmount is a really great place. There are a couple of clubs if you are interested, and they remain mostly spoiler free. The rest of DM, not so much.

No worries about it! I am of the opinion that people shouldn't be expected to learn to speak English just because their language is different, so you are doing great! Your English is really good in your post. If I might ask, did you get WoT in your mother language, or English? Or another language entirely?

    @Asha'man Shar'aman

your aes sedai must work quickly, while the initial used of the power to begin the weave to hide the ability of all three women sparks the interest of the damane. by the time the seanchan reaches the group you're in, nothing can be found. they search carefully each woman but cannot find anything of interest.  it is a confounding quirk that annoys the sul'dam.

it is an agonizing period of time for everyone within the group, especially the two girls who now cling to your aes sedai's side. though now you face a new quandry, the seanchan demand all to bend the knee and swear the oath. an action that would be binding on your aes sedai.

I'll be honest, here. Cross Sedai, you are really, really, good at making stumping scenarios. I have spent forever trying to figure a way out of this, and I am almost certain I will end up getting caught.

I can't let my Aes Sedai swear the oath, because I think the oath says you have to be loyal to the Seanchan, so she will involuntarily turn us all in. Before they get to us, my Aes Sedai starts to look pale and sick (part of an act to get us by without her swearing the oath). She will stumble against me occasionally, and by the time we get to the Seanchan officer demanding the oaths, I am holding her up. Our turn comes and we each swear the oath one by one until only my Aes Sedai is left. I explain to the officer that my Aes Sedai is sick, and we need to find a healer quickly. Is the officer convinced?

Hehe, I did not make it! ? I found it in the BT archives! ^^

If I do another raising, I may hunt down for another. ?

I stand corrected! Can't wait until I can access that stuff.

Either way, thanks for the signature.

Light, Aman, your new signature! The tower and sword. Love it. (I like the old one a bit more, but probably that's just my bias.)

Thank you! @Arie made it, (I’m no good at anything related to art or technology). Actually, I have a rotating signature, where if I post again, the signature changes. Check now!

Anything with Paprika is something I'm more than happy to cook with!

    Thank you @Asha'man Shar'aman!!

You are welcome! Sorry it took me so long to get up, I had no idea anybody wanted the recipe, and then I had a busy week. If you make it, let me know what you think of it!

    ? I'm still waiting on a recipe.

Got it! Sorry, this week has been a little busy.

This is for a really big batch, so just scale down the ratios if you want smaller:

    8 Tbsp of Paprika

    1 Tbsp of Cayenne

    5 Tbsp of Black pepper

    6 Tbsp of Garlic powder

    3 Tbsp of Onion powder

    6 Tbsp of salt

    2 1/2 Tbsp of Oregano

    2 1/2 Tbsp of Thyme

Mix it all in a bowl, (your hands tend to work best), and then pour it into a container. It keeps for a long time and goes good with pretty much anything, so see what you like it on best!

@Asha'man Shar'aman  you and your aes sedai are traveling along a busy road. full of merchants, carts, farmers and refugees. in passing your aes sedai has mentioned that there are two young women among some of the carts that have an ability to channel. (probably intent on recruiting them into the tower)

suddenly from behind thunder rages and above large figures fly past you. seanchan ripe with damane are marching down the road towards your section, a full three raken block any rushing down the road in the opposite direction. what do you do?

Do the women have the spark, or can they just learn? Also, is this is conquered territory?

If the women have the spark, then I will ask my Aes Sedai to mask her ability to channel, and we will move towards them, and hopefully my Aes Sedai can mask their ability too. We might be able to pass unnoticed, if we can get the women to trust us long enough to pass by the Seanchan, and if my Aes Sedai uses a Mirror of Mists to hide her ageless face.

If the women do not have the spark, then I will focus on getting my Aes Sedai out of there, likely with hiding her face, and masking her ability. The damane can not sense people who can learn to channel, so the women will be safe, and we can find them later, (made easier by a tracking weave my Aes Sedai might out on them)

    *sighing resignedly*

Why did I sign up for a 15 books fantasy series?

Asha'mans are cool! Though if I were Ta'im my battle cry would probably be, "Black Coats, Forward!" or something like that.

Does it mean we only need black coat for Asha'man cosplay? *immediately planning cheap costume for fun*

I would probably make it something in the Old Tongue.

Actually, if you are cosplaying Asha’man, you would need the Sword and Dragon pin too.

*gasps!* she sacrificed kaff!! congratulations elgee you have defeated the seanchan for now.

to clarify, within the WT (this club) warders cannot channel, you are an asha'man in the BT (club) as i am Moridin in Shayol Ghul, (but not here) our rules clearly state warders cannot channel. it is my mistake to have not said this first with your initial response. the only way for you to channel within the Tower is if you were an Aes Sedai or if we had a crossover event with the BT Club. this is not.

if you would like a stab at the seanchan again, i'd be happy to supply a scenario.

Got it. I would love to have another scenario!

  19. 2 hours ago, Elgee said:

    Warders can't Channel.

I feel like this is going to turn into a debate for my whole time in the Tower. Asha’man can channel, and I am Asha’man as well as a Warder, so the way I think of it is that I will act like I can’t channel in the Tower until we are in danger. But I am still Asha’man, so outside of the Tower (this was set in Malkier) I will not restrict my channeling.

I guess not! Either that or I’m dumber than you think I am and didn’t pick up on it?

Dumai's Wells is oh my goodness! I think my reading speed increased exponentially during the whole sequence that I probably miss some stuff but it's SO satisfying, albeit brutal and scary. The tension was enough to make my blood pressure jump. Taim was ruthless, but so was Rand. My heart is more like Perrin/Loial kind though, I'd probably puke on the side. Ewwwhh.

If they have it on the screen, would it be like the Battle of Five Armies (Hobbit)? More than 5 armies were there.

My editor is already Rich Text, so I just need to highlight and press the eye button. For fear of spoiler, I'm just curious about one thing:

      Hide contents

Is Taim ultimately with Rand or against Rand? Because right now I have a suspicion that Lord of Chaos was either him or that guy who sent Pedron Niall his messages. I don't think he's a Forsaken. The timing and M.O. is a bit off if he's one of the Forsaken. But he's shady. Please just tell me, in which book will I eventually know whether he's with the Light or with Ba'alzamon?

Book Nine is when you should know, though his big moments come in a Memory of Light I think.

I love Dumai’s Wells. It’s an amazing way to show what the Asha’man are capable of, while also showing what Rand has become. And it had some of the most amazing quotes.

  22. 17 minutes ago, Cross said:

@Asha'man Shar'aman you take many liberties and assumptions. many with time and the space in which you have to work. both foes were at your doorstep, you're time limited, the time to move an entire fortress through a portal, impossible. you left through the portal leaving at least half your people to the fates of shadowspawn and seanchan. your people are devastated, devoured or enslaved.

you return with asha'man to a devastated fortress and to the shame of malkier. what seanchan that remain make no bargains, having been hardened by their fight with the shadowspawn. you desolate them with asha'man but to what victory? women and children of malkier are dead, your fortress shambles.

I do take many liberties and assumptions because you have given me very limited information. In a really situation, I would know what I was dealing with, and it is possible to move everyone out through a gateway via linkage. Once you finish KoD, you might understand.

But hey, this is just a game, so I guess I’m a terrible commander? Good thing I’m a Warder then!
