I haven't played with a mafia traitor before: if they don't elect to make it a goon, what does the traitor do?

It's basically a third Mafia member who can't communicate with the others (IE doesn't know who they're gonna kill/vote/etc) but at the same time has to try to assist without outting themselves. Certainly a tough spot. Also a tough person to identify.

I remember the game where I started as recruitable, and got recruited later in the game. I came off as "can't be scum" Because of a dead scum's early interactions with me.

That dynamic is certainly possible here. The Mafia's recruitment, if they decide, is pregame. Otherwise the Traitor will remain an outsider.

 

What I like about this setup is the amount of variables in it. If certain things fall in place Town could potentially be endgamed at the start of D3. The game could also be very Vanilla. It's all up to random and what the Mafia choose to begin with. It's like a reverse Pick Your Poison setup.

This version of traitor is interesting in that they know who the Mafia is. Their interactions with the Mafia will still be telling, if you know where to look.

 

Unclear if the Mafia team would know who the unrecruited traitor is. Interesting dynamic if they don't, and could accidently kill their teammate lol
