But she would have stayed up at least a tiny bit longer as a villager. She had to know I'd know after the vote. Just a very awkward time for her to vote, she usually holds right til deadline unless she's super confident and a lot of time doesn't vote at all. She did her job: stayed alive for the day. There was no more for her to do.

I think you know that this level of conjecture or insight is actually going to weaken your argument

Greetings friends I took a break from the thread to wash some dishes (and good thing too because I missed the rest of that argument that I probably wouldn't have been able to keep out of and possibly made worse) and think and I came up with something else

 

To anyone who thinks Cory could be mafia, consider this and give a cogent explanation if you would:

 

Why, if Cory is mafia and BFG is town, would Cory be the first to pull off her and say to give her a chance? BFG was eminently lynchable until Cory switched to Zalanna. A town BFG day 1 lynch would've been way more valuable to the mafia AND wouldn't have put Cory under any more suspicion than he's under already. The longer town BFG lives the greater opportunity she has to clear herself and become someone the mafia has to kill.

 

This isn't an argument that BFG is scum (those are separate) but I think it's a pretty good one that Cory isn't. If he's town he doesn't know BFG's alignment and had every reason to have doubts once she defended herself. His reasoning makes sense from that perspective. It doesn't make sense as scum unless he was sure I was suddenly going to change my mind which would have been impressive because I wasn't even sure what I was going to do.

 

As for the possibility that they're w/w - if so they've played a very strange game as I think both of them could have easily gotten away without making the other their only (in BFG's case) or one of their few (in Cory's case) primary targets. Especially since the end result of their antagonism is that it's very likely at least one of them is going to get resolved soon. So I don't think that's likely.

 

I think Cory is town, I don't think this could come from him as mafia. If I'm wrong he's thoroughly fooled me but at this point it's going to take some kind of incredible smoking gun to get me to change my mind on him. This is the wrong avenue to explore.

This is a lovely post.  It's not better than either of AJ's posts, and it's probably not better than Hallia's post about Wildfire, but you're trying.  

 

Too bad it's fundamentally flawed, which is not to say you can't be correct about the conclusion.  And there's really three issues that keep me from agreeing and writing him off:

 

1) Cory is supposed to be always right about BFG.  She's like Hallia, and a few other players.  He does read Zander well (which is why I didn't like him saying Zander was weird early, when Zander was basically Zander for this entire game, minus the excessive spamming that he failed to do), too, but I'm pretty sure he's literally never been wrong about BFG.  I would guess he would have caught twice as much flack if he mislynched her, and I think he's aware of that fact, so Mafia!Cory could easily pull off to avoid that.

 

2) As someone who thinks BFG is an incredibly good townie, I would rather have her alive as mafia than Zander, and I would guess Mafia!Cory feels the same way.  I'm not a try hard player, but I can usually take control of a thread.  I can certainly muscle my way into it over BFG.  I have next to no chance of outpowering Town!Zander and burned a strongman kill on him N1 last game because he posted 500 times on D1.  Cory is more of a try hard than me, as either alignment, so he would fair better than me....but it's still going to be a challenge.  So him taking the opportunity to get rid of Zander is certainly plausible.

 

3) I don't think Cory ever cares how much suspicion he's under, and I think it's a mistake to say it COULDN'T come from him as mafia.

 

Again, not saying you're ultimately wrong necessarily...I'm still trying to figure that much out.  But if you're right, this isn't why IMO.

If I'm not being completely "stupid" and looking at literally everything, I think you're probably right but I've been trying to play "well".

 

I think most people can maybe figure out where I'm going with this, but I'd rather not get into it because I like to limit the number of garbage reads I use.
