The first person to sneak into the carnival under the cover of night was BFG. She had heard strange whispers around school that the carnival, though closed almost for four months, had "special" exhibits at night. And walking through a hole in the outer fence, she was aflutter with the realization those rumors were more than fiction; lights danced in front of her, she heard the faint hiss of music and some calamity in the distance.

She was so excited she didn't even notice a steady, brunette-haired man walking out of the shadows of side tent. They collided with dizzying impact and BFG toppled to the floor.

Shaking her head and suddenly nervous, she looked up only see a white glove extended toward her.

"My my, aren't we a little clumsy today. Let me help you up."

Shy but enraptured, she took his hand and rose to her feet. She'd only begun to find her balance again when words flew again from his level smirk.

"Though perhaps some fault is mine as well, dashing around my beautiful carnival so focused on the 'heres' and 'theres'! Where are my manners? I am corycurren, and I run this carnival with a dear friend. First impressions notwithstanding, we are men of etiquette, and I will right my own shortsightedness. In fact, we are just about to open up a new exhibit, and I'd love to take you behind-the-scenes before we get started. Consider it my apology."

The white glove extended again; the mists in the carnival air had been rushing around BFG's head, and she was still trying to find her equilibrium. She took his hand, half to see whatever it was he was muttering on about, half to spare her the embarrassment of falling down again.

They had only walked past two or three tents and a large break area before he'd pulled her into a large, draped building. Sitting in a chair at the entrance was another man, a great deal shorter in comparison to the man by her side - we'll say he was around 4'9 - dressed sharply with a fake, fuzzy brown beard that dangled artificially from his cap.

"Ah, corycurren! So is this our new... subject?"

corycurren coughed, and the shorter man quickly smiled and changed his tone.

"Subject of gratitude, I mean! Our exhibit is almost ready! They crave attention, those darlings of ours."

Tommyrod gestured her through a small passage while corycurren left to attend the entrance.

"My lady, what we have here are the fiercest alligators found on this side of the country. Overfed beasts found in the sewers of New York City; I wrangled them myself."

"That's pretty neat," stumbled BFG, still in her fugue state.

He opened a lined door and beckoned her to go through. She stepped slowly.

"There are some really amazing things you can train an alligator to do. Like show elephants of old, they learn respect and they can do some amazing tricks. Watching them with interact with humans, knowing how truly deadly they can be.. It's really an amazing thing to watch."

BFG was starting to feel a little better. She'd seen lion shows at the old carnival, and was amazed at the self-control the beasts had managed and the fearlessness of their trainers.

"What kind of tricks can these alligators do?"

Tommyrod laughed. Yet to enter the door she had just passed, he instead slammed it shut with BFG shocked and startled on the other side.

She hadn't even been looking. Iron bars now separated them. She'd walked carelessly into a trap.

"I can't tell you for sure; these boys keep eating their trainers before we can find out. We're hoping you have better luck!"

BFG has become the new "trainer" of the alligator exhibit!
You did not escape. Try again? zPXU69O.gif

"Those alligators aren't really going to eat her, you know," said corycurren as his partner strolled out of the passageway with a broad smile on his face, "at least not for awhile. They've been looking for someone to play with."

Tommyrod's smile only widened. "Of course, my friend. At least they - and we - will have some company for awhile. It gets boring here, all alone."

"It won't be boring for too long. Once people hear about the carnival, they start coming in droves."

"That they do. That they do."

You wake up in some sort of dilapidated infirmary tent. You can barely remember how you got here; you must have hit your head. How did you even get here? Who brought you here and... who was taking care of you?

As you shake off the dreariness, the cold feeling in your head sinks as something drops on the mat next to your head. A cold compress. Wet, sticky, but lukewarm. Drops of red drip from the bottom sack. You are perturbed and slide away from the mat, lifting yourself up and hastily trotting outside the tent.

You came here with friends; Patty and Brad were here with you. It comes back slowly. You snuck in to see the carnival, but you got separated. Everything else is a blur. Something about the carnival was wrong. But the misty air seeps into your lungs and nothing seems clear.

You see a large poster stapled to a wood post outside of the tent door. A list of different amusements in the park, fit with directions. Where did Patty and Brad go? You try to remember. Better to look on your feet, anyway.

Where will you go?

To take a gander at the creatures of Freak Show, turn to page [v]Red2111[/v].

That sure is a lot of options! Your fate is in your hands.

All of these options are purely flavor and have absolutely zero effect on the result. Good luck. Choose wisely.

It is now Day 1!

With 13 alive, it's 7 for majority!

Thane tends to come off as scummy regardless of alignment. You I have a hard time reading. I'm an average player. Dice tends to majorly lurk as scum and be more present and make decent cases as town.

So the mafia recruits before the rand. Then the stronger the mafia player the more tempting the recruit is, so I think it's good to discern their allignments first. I think most people pick at least reasonably competent mafia players as their partners, so commonly held weaker players should get less attention today (i.e. me and dice) since our rand chance is 1 in 13.

I think this approach puts the most pressure on people like nyn, but I think that's for the best. We just need to be cognissant that individuals who are good at being scum are more likely to be scum in this set up. Though this isn't to say we don't take out scummy players if we spot any.

Makes sense to me.

I'm on my way to bed, but I'll say this. Not a huge fan of this discussion really because I think it's a mountain of Wifom. But I'll add my thoughts regardless.

A ton of considerations could be taken here. First of all I disagree about necessarily choosing someone you consider a strong player. Not saying it's not an option.  When I was cult in the HP game in the WT I recruited Mynd and Yates which I felt would be my biggest threats...but it's definitely not the only option out there. Just take Red's game that just ended, where Verbal and I were cult. We had a bunch of strong players to choose from. We went with Sili. Why? Because we were looking to distance ourselves from whoever we picked. We've made a point of not recruiting Lee because people know we're friends. And we went with Sili because he inserts discord and because he always comes off scummy, so he would be hard to read. Plus he would have been pretty much the last person people would expect either of us to choose.  Another option is picking someone who reads you really well and that you prefer to be on your team. ie it's not necessarily about who would be the best pick skills wise, but who would be the best pick to avoid detection. There are many ways to go about it. And I'm not even gonna get into the whole reversed wifom that Verbal mentioned to me in Red's game when we were trying to decide who to recruit next... where he contemplated recruiting a close friend on purpose cause the other players would choose to believe that we wouldn't be that obvious.

I don't think this should be a focal point by any means. I guess it's harmless right now since we're on N0 anyhow... but it's not something I'm gonna rely on by any means cause the options are many. As far as I'm concerned scum was randed just like any other game.

My statement was more geared towards focusing on strong players because they're tempting prospects, since they aren't likely to be lynched under normal circumstances as either allignment. Of course, depending on who the mafia was, anyone from strong to adequate could be recruited and we should keep an open-mind and lynch whoever has the best chance to flip scum.

Hello

Feels good to be back in a Mafia game, I can feel the juices flowing already.

I'm with Nyn on this subject. Highly circumstantial and would vary person to person depending on how the randomization went. The part I don't like most specifically is suggesting the focus be on a certain group of players who are considered better than others while the remaining are theoretically given a pass.

I was a strong player in the sense I was high up in the poe. You don't recruit players who are about to die. In the same sense, mafia will prefer not to pick Thane or me, because there is a chance we die early and there are no replacements. This is before the game started, and mafia is just playing the long odds. Different players pick different people, because they don't want to seem too obvious, but the comparison between what is 'too much' and what is 'too little' breaks down differently depending on the person.

As I said, you choose whoever you think has the greatest prospects, while also considering how the thread will react to the mechanic. If there's a strong player who won't take heat no matter the wifom, you pick them because that's optimal. On the other hand if there's a weak player, who always takes heat, you don't pick them.

It isn't because bad play is still bad play. We won't lynch based solely on meta.

That would be silly.

It's day 1.

Bolded for edification because I don't want to be represented as saying something I haven't. I never at all advocate giving anybody a pass. If dice comes in and lurks in a significant way, I'm all for lynching him. But conversely, since players here want (I emphasize want) to pick players like nyn, I'll be paying close attention to what they say because in that direction there is more scum more often to be found than in other directions.

So the mafia recruits before the rand. Then the stronger the mafia player the more tempting the recruit is, so I think it's good to discern their allignments first. I want to replace edification with another more appropriate word, and in general just phrase that less strongly. But oh well, I got a little heated. M'bad.

I'm heading out.

I think Kaylee had a good opening, considering she seems to have been phone posting so you know... my 2c.

Sili, what you say might have carried weight if we weren't aware of the choosing mechanic. Since we were told about it then the upside of choosing a "weaker" player is precisely this. So I still disagree with your premise. It's wifom.
