I don't see how Clov and Wombat are garnering so many town leans when neither looks like an obvious or even likely villager to me and when I asked Clov to discuss Wombat he just ignored me outright.

Top three:

Thane

Hallia

Salami

So let me get this straight, us three are scum, together, again?

Riiiight.

This is really a bad angle to use to try to prove yourself, Halli. Like. Really really bad.

@ Tommy - For Wombat, it's mostly a gut feeling, I guess? When I say he's talking sense, I mean he's literally coming off pretty logical to me and I find myself agreeing with a lot of what he says. He's also playing a pretty typical Day 1 for him.

I liked Clov's reasoning about Leelou (where he explained about the conversation he had with Leelou and Nyn). I know you didn't like it, but I'm not sure I get why. Can you explain?

I agree. I think Clov has some really bad posts.

Wombat's earlier posts I didn't care for. His posts later seemed a better-ish.

Hallia's posts aren't catching my eye at all. That's probably a bad sign in itself, and you're right that is bad reasoning.

Hallia, am I gonna have to take you to the diner and have you for lunch?

Aside from the fact that he "forgot" recent events that should have him thinking the opposite of what he was saying ITT until Nyn pointed it out, he then passed it off as a Yates-level trap and then said he's actually reading Leelou as town after all. It's just... a really slimy, insincere-reading post. Like a used car salesman caught trying to sell you a $5000 undercoat you don't need and selling it to you for $3000 instead.

Seriously, quote his post again and read it and tell me it reads genuine. "Now that the cat's out of the bag?" Just lol.

I agree with you; hence pandering.

something ive noted and perhaps you can confirm, is that some scum try too hard to appear reasonable and use expressions like i think or i figure, or my best guess is far too often. always a lot of i's, and opinion pieces.

In general scum will use more "hedging" statements like you've described. But some people use them frequently as villagers to express their uncertainty. AJ does it, I do it, Monstrdingus does it, etc. It has to be combined with a sort of subconscious confidence behind what they're saying. And yes, it's possibly to be confident yet uncertain. Hard to explain.

Speaking from conjecture, it probably depends on how one approaches their statements. a scum is trying to subvert incrimination by making hollow meaningless claims, so their statements will be hedge-like even when they don't need to be.

Well that's my thinking anyway.

I mean like the level of posting. After mentioned it seemed like his posting spiked.

I ain't worried. :D

NOPE

And insinuating that AJ would somehow be rustled as scum after a vote by Hallia is LAWLZ

Why is it LAWLZ?

I ain't worried. ^_^

Yeah Hallia this is you faking standing up for yourself which used to be a towntelling till I coached you as scum to do it a few times

No. This is me not being afraid to anymore.  I legitimately am not worried.

I get the feeling we might have one scum in this chatty group, and the rest are laying low.

#Useless Thoughts To Look Busy

You don't know that.  What if it's right? You don't know, unless you're scum.

Bold is mine - wth is this answer, Hallia? Whether it's right or not is not the issue. He's saying you look like you're trying to appear to actively scumhunt by making a fairly useless observation.

Yeah.  He's a slight town read.  His early posts were pretty good.  He followed up with his reasons for reads almost immediately after prompted and they made sense for where we were at in the game (181) and questioned you on your hypothetical about flop votes.

His reversal in #197 on Thane about Des' read didn't seem like he was pulling something out nothing.  I read it the way he's portraying the first time I saw it.

His approach of Nyn doesn't seem scum driven.

Wombat farming maximum postage so that he can slank later without getting MK'd.

You're busted bro.

It's also kinda my natural posting style.  I see no need to restrict it this game.

I'm also missing the part where I'm throwing dirt on you. I basically said I disagreed. Overreaction much?

Your post implied quite clearly that you thought I was dodging questions directed at me by Tommy.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

I said he had little choice but to respond directly.

You said he could have just done what I did and quoted my post.

Therefore, your post only makes sense if you don't believe I wasn't responding directly to Tommy.

Wombat, let me clarify, since apparently you don't get what I'm saying.

I was commenting on Thane's exchange with Des, Tommy, Salami. Whoever was around at the time. It's true that he was pressured a bit and asked a lot of questions. I said that it was a positive thing, IMO, that he was dealing with them in real time. You said that they didn't leave him much of a choice. Which I disagree with. He could have told them to cool it. He could have said he had something to do and then take his time in responding later. He could have self voted and ducked out lol   But he kept responding immediately which gave me a good vibe. It didn't appear to me like he needed the time to make stuff up. I could be off here, but that was my impression.

As it turns out you just posted a final response and took off for whatever you needed to do. So I quoted you to demonstrate one of the things he could have done to prove my point. I was never implying anything in regards to Tommy. Which should be apparent since if I had something to say about that....I would have straight out said it. Suitableness isn't exactly one of my strong suits.

Ok, that makes more sense, but I don't know how alignment indicative it is.

What are you seeing that makes you think he's NOT town?

Posted

So, looking at his post -

Okay, so I'll back Nyn 100% on what she said about Leelou (and herself, for that matter) - when we were talking yesterday, neither seemed particularly delighted to have rolled scum in their most recent game and were holding out a lot of hope to be town this game, despite me trying to curse them into rolling scum again.

I figured this would be the easiest read of my life for Leelou.  If she seemed to have high interest this game and genuinely feel good about being in the thread, she'd be likely to be town.  If she was crabby and avoid...ative?, I would assume scum.  So far, I actually lean towards the former and like her chances to be town.  But I don't metaclear people, so I pushed her to see how she'd respond.  If she blew up on me, I could lock!scum her.  Anything short of that would help affirm the townlean I already had formed.

Now that the cat's out of the bag, I'll obviously have to wait to clear her until she chooses to be more active in the hunt, rather than getting dragged in.  Gambit busted.  Thanks, Nyn.

From what I'm reading in his post, he didn't forget these recent events (by which I assume you mean their conversation). He felt she was town but wanted to be sure, so deliberately voted Leelou to see how she would react. The gambit itself makes sense to me. As for the wording, I don't really know if I can say that it's slimy - I haven't really played with Clov before and don't know what he usually comes off like.

This kind of "trap" is not something Clov is known to do, and it is even less something he would do in sincerity to someone he is friendly with and flirts with. So out of character for him. But you should be able to see how his post reads as... ingratiating. Obsequious. And that's not him. At all.

I don't know what to say except that I don't really find it obsequious, even after re-reading it a few times. As for the gambit being out-of-character for him, I will keep that in mind,

I think this gambit is kinda beneath him, to be honest. It's like. "Oh I KNOW! I'll poke her and if she gets mad, she's LOCKSCUM". And last time I checked, Clov wasn't 12.... so....

[v]Addi[/v]

Other stuff.

I'm following Yates on the GF thing. I feel GF is probably really transparent though (he was last round) so I'll wait for more content from him before making any definitive statements. I can follow Yates's motive though.

Addi seems she'll fit right in here. Just keep on posting and pointing out things you see. I wouldn't considering Clov's vote indicative of anything, necessarily. Could be random but I feel like it isn't - so he'll need to explain there.

It's not.

Feel free to explain then.

I just think we need to roll on her for now.

Fwiw I don't think that Addi post looks that bad when keeping it mind who made it.

I think newer players have a harder time presenting on thread so they come across abrasive. I certainly did my first game.

I'd like to wait her out a bit and keep her talking so see what we can learn.

And there is the D1 new player common courtesy so I'm not going there today.

This is what I've been waiting for.  When I was scum in Tron Mafia, I was trying to push a lynch on Drunk Tank, who was playing his first game here (and not exactly what I'd call a pro-town game).  TG wasn't having any part of what a few of us were selling on DT, citing that doesn't believe in lynching a new player on D1.  When I saw that the replacement player here was someone new to the site, I figured I'd see if TG would be willing to roll on her if she got some pressure.  I'm not going to say he's lock!town because of it, but it helps his chances and I'd certainly be pushing him as scum had he hopped on the wagon.

As for Addi, I actually like her to be town here quite a bit.  She certainly wouldn't be the first person to play up the "confused noob" role, but she has two plausible excuses this game for being more "aware" than your typical noob (two confirmed town mason groups, AND she knows Darthe).  I also like her vote on me.  The reasoning was really bad, but it's her first game...whatcha gonna do?  The reason I like it is that I figure it's pretty unlikely that her teammates would be encouraging her to start a fight with one of the more vocal players in the game using something that could easily be spun as an OMGUS retaliation vote.  Darthe may have townspewed her, too.

Thoughts.
