4 hours until incident.

"Listen, Tony, I think it's best right now for me to be as far away from STARK Tower as possible," an exasperated voice buzzed over the intercom. "Having me there with everything going on could be......well, you know,.....making things a lot worse than they should be."

"I've already admitted it, Bruce," replied Tony while carefully soldering a circuit wire, "you were right about the Ultron project.  It was a bad idea.  But now I need your help.  I think it's gotten into the wrong hands."

Dr. Bruce Banner sighed.  "Was it ever in the right hands?"  Tony gasped.   "Sorry," Banner continued, "That was wrong."

Tony put down the solder gun and wire, spun his chair towards the video phone and folded his arms across his chest.  "No, I deserve that one.  Tinkering with things I didn't understand.  At least it wasn't Gamma Rays...."

Dr. Banner chuckled, "Yeah, ok, I guess I deserve THAT one.  Look, I can help you from a distance but you and I both know that keeping....the other guy...away from this is good for everyone."

Tony spun in his chair and let out a sigh.  "Yeah, fine, whatever," groaned Tony, "I'll send you the intel on Lanthirrhos.  Last I heard, Cap was leading in a sweep-up team to check the place out.  I doubt it would still be there."

"Any idea whose behind this?" asked Banner.  Tony sighed again.  For the first time in years, Tony Stark felt helpless.

A scruffy man in a soiled trench coat staggered down a dark alleyway.  He stopped at a metal grating and looked around before unzipping his fly.  As he began to relieve himself, suddenly the grating burst open and a bright light beamed out from the center.  Two tall men in tight black and red spandex and black, scull-shaped masks, stepped out into the open.  One pushed the man back and held a rather odd shaped gun to his head.  He shouted at the man in German.

"Wer bist du?!?!?!" he shouted, "Was machst du hier?! Wo ist das Geld, Lebowski?!"  The scruffy man's eyes widened and his now soiled pants collapsed around his ankles.  Legs shaking, he backed up against the wall.

"Don't kill me, please," he begged, "I-I was just takin a leak, I swears! I didn't see nuttin...ow GAWD!"

The other man leaned forward and laughed, "Sag uns, was du weißt, oder wir Ihre Johnson abgeschnitten!"

A hooded figure wearing some kind of military uniform and knee high leather boots emerged behind them.  In a thick German accent, the hooded man hissed, "That is enough, Hanz.  I zink our friend here has seen way too much for his brain to handle.   Perhaps, we should relieve him of the agony of being alive."   The hooded man removed a thin metal device and placed it in between the man's eyes.  "Don't worry," he grinned, "you won't veel a zing!"

"NOooooooooO!" screamed the man just before a flash of light turned the alley to day for a brief moment.  Then, the man slumped to the ground.  The hooded man leaned in and inspected the man's eyes.

"Zee human brain is fascinating," he cackled, "zo easy to control, manipulate....and erase. Zis man will wake up and believe he is a chicken."

The two minions stood at attention and raised both of their fists up toward the sky.  "HAIL HYDRA!" they shouted, "Hail Baron Zemo!"

A little grumpy? Have you gotten enough sleep?

What I said was neither "grumpy" nor the cause of sleep deprivation (actually I just woke up a couple hours ago).

So everyone who´s talking is town? And the silent ones are mafia?

Not what I said.

And Tress is chasing phantoms ... which makes her town?

I didn't say it makes her town.

Why is it too early to start playing? Look at this like a really long Day 1. The only difference is that you can´t vote.

Voting is exactly what we are able to judge people on.

Actions. Who tries to kill who.

It is magnitudes more reliable than this dancing around meta everyone is doing.

It's just muddling the game before it's even started.

I appreciate the fact that everyone is excited to get this game started but if you're town and you're contributing to this dialogue about post restrictions and meta or veiled accusations about someones motives you're not helping.

enlarged.

So you never use things players say, and then back up or change or anything to inform your reads? You only use voting and who tries to kill who?  Tell me Nol how do you even KNOW who tries to kill who?

Yeah I do. But I weigh their actions far more heavily than their words. If someone consistently says person A is scummy but is always voting person B or C that catches my attention.

Also I'm obviously talking about voting when I say "try to kill", what else would I mean?

Nolder confirmed third party German from big lebowski.

Just skimmed the last three pages and yeah, we should cut off his johnson, if that's what you're insinuating

If I had 2 shots right now I'd shoot Red and Nolder so fast and everyone would love me forever. Red is scum and Nolder is either scum or making the dumbest arguments in the world as a townie who is SUPPOSED to want to scumhunt as soon as they know their role. Bleurgh. You don't need a voting phase to start gameplay. Any notion arguing against that is sophomoric.

And yet, the part that would ACTUALLY stand out there as something suspicious is that someone was SAYING something that went against what they were actually doing. So yeah, thanks for proving that your argument has no merit.

Stuff people say once they have their role pm is relevant in mafia, and always will be. Trying to interrupt or stop anyone else's attempt at scumhunting is antitown, period.

early gameplay usually involves casing people on really minor evidence or meta tells or voting based on gut feelings.

Yeah...but most people here aren't very good at that. Or, well, they weren't last time I played. It's been awhile but I don't expect things have changed that quickly on me. Stick to reading votes (and night kills) and we'll go much further this game than if you all rely on meta and gut checks to see you through. Even in the early game

Until we have a couple of flips to work from for solid evidence, you always have to start with "relatively nothing", then get reactions to that "relatively nothing", and decide what you think of those reactions.  Yes, the dawn phase "waste of time" as you put it will color our opinions because it's in the thread, and it's gameplay.

You're close but not quite correct.

You really don't have to make mountains out of molehills to get a game going.

That's one way but often people forget their mountains aren't real and get sucked into their narrative.

It's easier to vote people and check their reactions on that to start than grill them about their change in avatar or who said hello to who.

Scum!Hallia tends to get more "aggressive" early on. Town!hallia coasts on one-liners, lack of info, and jabs.

But, like I said, a meta-read. I admit my reads are flimsy, atm. So how do you think commenting on that will

help you determine if I am scum or not??

"for instance" indicates there are other things you find scummy, besides my "buddying" and my flimsy reads? Care to share?

I completely disagree with that meta assessment. You have it quite wrong in fact- Scum!Hallia coasts by moar than most, since it's easier for her to do so. Town!Hallia will usually still fluff a lot and go with the crowd, but NewAndImprovedTown!Hallia is much more aggressive than any of her other versions.

And no, no you don't. Your argument is bad and you should feel bad for making it.

Again, gameplay is gameplay. If people get too "sucked into their narrative" that's their problem. Tunneling always has that drawback. But you do NOT need to wait till a voting phase for gameplay to begin, that is just freaking ridiculous. Mafia is all about studying people and their reactions to things, judging tone and comparing their reaction to how you think they or a "normal townie" would usually react to something. Voting is actually a much smaller part of it all than you seem to believe. It's how you can hold people accountable for their reads, but that's it pretty much. I'd say roughly 1/4 of all scum get caught for anything having to do with voting, or vote count analysis, and the other 3/4 are caught by PR's or good scumhunters looking for tells and reactions whichever way they can.

GRRRRRRRRR I HATE THIS DAWN PHASE CRAP...

Call me when the game actually starts

^^^ Oh look, someone flustered about having to keep up appearances during Dawn phase.

Noldor is rusty and it's showing. Should have played a few tune up games. You showed up in the big leagues and crapped the bed.

Derp much? I had just Voted AJ and then realized my vote wasn't worth two cents. Nice try, though.

It's funny because at first glance it's looking like town is going to get annihilated but I'm not scum this game.

I mean seriously you all are wasting time digging for little nuggets of meta tells that may or may not be real while scum is probably sitting back and laughing at you.

I guess I'm still just bitter about being caught in the last avengers game lol. The sting will never go away.

Oh GAWD. This fails the tone test on sooooooo many levels. Holy bejeesus. Pre-defensiveness, doom n gloom, doesn't really pass muster with the pronoun game or phrasing tests, I mean LORD this is a bad and scummy post. WOW.

Nerp, response does not satisfy. You bemoaned about the game not starting yet, even tho it started once you had your role pm.

I guess you could say I "bemoaned" the game not starting... I am not a fan of this start method. I like to get in and get my hands dirty after a day or so, and feel I am prevented from doing so...

Bold: So on D1, when there haven't been any flips to judge how to read the votes, and no night kills, how do you propose we stick to reading votes and night kills?  What do we start with?  Just randomly vote people without giving a reason?

As you said, that's one way, but it's not everyone's way.  You might find it easier, but with a pre-day phase for discussion, there are other things we can go on, and we should be.

3 hours until incident.

Captain Steve Rogers scanned the terrain.  His target could be anywhere, but he could sense that he was near.   "Bucky," he thought, "where are you?"  It was like before.  He could sense good in his old friend, but something was different.  He had been tweaked, brainwashed......corrupted by an evil he thought had long since been destroyed.  "Why won't Hydra just die?" he wondered.

SNAP! Rogers spun around to see whose foot snapped that twig.  He could see a jittery old man holding a pistol aimelessly towards him.  "W-whose there?" stuttered the old man, scrambling for his flashlight with his other hand, "s-show yourself or....or I'll shoot!"

Cap stepped into the light, holding his shield up to block just in case the old man got any crazy ideas.  "Stand down, friend," he commanded, "Captain Rogers here.  We're likely looking for the same scumbad."

The old man put his pistol down but did not let go.  "Captain America?" he gasped, "I can't believe it!  Never in 70 years would I have thought I'd be standing right here in front of..."

Rogers held up his hand, "Thank you, but we have no time for fanboy antics right now.  This is not Hall H, this is a destroyed military compound.  What have you found so far......Officer?"

"Oh, the name is Ericson," replied the old man, "Reggie Ericson.  I'm just security for the storage company down the road.  I chased some metal armed bandit through the woods here who cracked open one of our units.  Just before all the big explosions and what not, he was carrying with him some big machine of some kind."

"Bucky," growled Rogers, "what are you up to?"

"Pardon?" asked Reggie.

"Sorry," replied Rogers, "just thinking out loud.  I know this....bandit as you call him.  We go way back.  He's involved with this somehow."   Rogers lifted his arm and activated his wrist com.  "Tasha," he barked, "I found a security guard from the storage company down the road.  Named Ericson.  He says he saw Bucky heading towards the base just before everything went down.  I'm gonna send him back to you for debriefing."

There was silence on the other end.  "Tasha?"  Rogers shook his wrist.  "Damn thing must have been damaged in the crash."  Rogers turned to Erickson, "You did your company and your country proud, friend.  I'll take it from here.  Head back to your facility and Agent Romanov will give you further instructions."   The old man nodded and watched Captain Rogers disappear into the forest. "We need to find the Winter Soldier before we run out of time."

Once Rogers was out of sight, the illusion of Reggie Erikson, elderly security guard, dissolved to reveal the Norse God of Mischief himself.  Grinning, he hissed "Oh, Captain, I'm afraid you are already.....out of time."

* * *

"I understand that, Miss Potts," shouted the stone faced woman driving a sable jeep down the highway.  "You have to realize that its beyond covering up now.  Tony needs to come clean about this.  The sooner we get the military involved, the better.  Colonel Rhodes knows this and so do you."

Pepper Potts rubbed her temples and sighed.  "Maria, you have been a good ally to STARK Industries ever since the Hydra incident, but you of all people should know how dangerous it is giving the military that much access to Tony's work.  Do I need to bring up Iron Patriot to you?"

Agent Maria Hill scowled, "that was different, Miss Potts.  Tony's work has cost the lives of over two hundered innocent lives, some of them civilian.  Lanthirrhos is completely destroyed, not to mention how many bright futures extinguished when you had that incident on Level 9.  If Dr. Banner hadn't been there..."

"Look, maybe having Dr. Banner directly involved was a bad idea, but Tony had everything under control." Pepper winced, "remember, it was Tony who stopped Banner from destroying Times Square."

"Right," growled Agent Hill, "and when STARK INDUSTRIES can issue a Hulk-Buster suit to every soldier in the North East, we can rest easier; however, until then, we need the military to be briefed before they start treating both Tony and Dr. Banner as threats to the town.  General Ross is doing everything he can to keep this away from Tony, but he's blaming Banner for Lanthirrhos.  You and I know what really happened, but this is just want Ross needs to turn the Hulk into a wanted terrorist. "

Pepper sighed, "Rhodey is talking to him now.  Tell General Ross that we'll meet with him soon."

"Pe......a making the ri.......de..........ostly........fila..........pfffffzzz"  Hill's signal began to fade in and out, then suddenly the line went dead.

"JARVIS," said Pepper, "what is causing all this interference today?"

"I'm sorry, Miss Potts," chimed the familiar British accent, "but it seems to be......galactic interference."

An interesting mix....

I don't know my comics well, i thought ultron was his own robot, not sure how loki and Hydra fit in.

and now what, Venom is in?

Hydra might be a cult. Bucky maybe a serial killer of sorts. Ultron a mafia with Vision and what-not.

Cant really tell....

Vision is am Avenger.

Hydra are German which is why I'm counting them as the dudes from lebowski amd as a third party.

Venom/ultron/Thanos/loki/bucky/galactus?

Bucky could be hydra. Probably is.

Basically do the same thing you're doing now but do it with votes. Doing it without votes is waste of time.
