Lenlo was dumb in his attack on me but I'm reading it as dumb town for now.

I didn't like your reactions to the votes you were getting but up until now it seemed more like town flailing.

Nolder was doing alright, but when he voted Ice just to get rid of an inactive member... he could just as easily have voted on me too. Going for an easy lynch by saying he wants to lose dead weight.... really don't like it.

Also you can call it an easy lynch if you want, I call it a smart move.

Leaving an inactive or a lurker alive hurts town more and more the longer the game goes on.

If we're going to do it it's best to do it early while we have mislynches to spare.

We wont have the leeway to do it later.

 

In general I agree with what you are saying about how lurking affects the game and that if we are going to lynch inactive players it is better to do earlier than later. I'm not a fan of lurkers myself. That said, I don't like how you are initiating this conversation now when there are better wagons to join even if you don't agree with them for the reasons stated above by you. Your reason for picking Ice is fair since he was the lowest poster, but my dislike of it being on Ice specifically should be obvious. Like I said, his mentor will be replacing in so that slot will become active soon enough.

 

As others have pointed out, and I have seen myself recently (Basel's SW game) you pushed this idea similarly on D1 and was lynched/flipped town. Not sure if this idea was just badly timed or an attempt to hide behind your meta of targeting lurkers.

 

 

Despo - your instant sheep of the 'hunch' shows enough agreement IMO that you didn't have to say 'I agree'. Stop focusing on semantics. I think you should understand that I look more below the surface for motive and intent than the rhetoric people use. To me, your phrasing suggested that you knew Wombat's alignment and were attempting to buddy him by following his 'hunch' although he hadn't indicated what it was at that point and also hadn't posted anything I would consider of serious substance in order for you to discern his alignment enough to think he was onto something. When you say 'Wombat's hunches are usually good when he's Town' to me suggests that you already were aware of which alignment he was, which made it easy for you to sheep while also cozying up to him. This is my personal interpretation and something I would expect from advanced players such as yourself. Others think you were 'reaction testing', which it seems that you are alluding to now as well. And please, don't act like you need to explain anything to me about the potential move you were making. It is illogical for you to think that you can blame me for finding your actions suspicious when you do a poor job of making your motive clear, intentionally or not.

 

That said after looking over the last few pages and your recent posts after this one I quoted I am feeling a little better about you, and the reaction test thing does fit with your meta. Definitely not willing to call you town at this point of the game, but I think my vote could be better served elsewhere.

Again- my sheep NEVER implied or suggested in any way that I agreed with Wombat's hunch, or that I was even reading him town. I'm not sure how much more simply I can say this.

 

I like to get games going. One of many easy ways to do this is sheep someone else's vote to see where it goes. Allows you to get a read potentially on the person you sheeped onto, as well as the person you sheeped, as well as get reactions from everyone else.

 

Sheeping alone doesn't have to indicate that you agree with the person you're sheeping. I mean dude, trap vote? Come on.

 

And thing is, without sounding like a snob or something, I'm advanced enough to know I don't ALWAYS have to make my motive clear, not if I'm doing a gambit. Regardless of how clear my motives were (and in this case I think they were fairly clear), by trying to "look underneath the surface into the motive behind things" you actually end up misrepping me and putting words in my mouth.

 

Dude, I get wanting to keep reads close to chest and sometimes making plays that might seem sketchy in order to elicit reactions/discussion in thread. You are right in the sense that someone has to act as a catalyst in order to get the game moving. As far as putting words in your mouth, it's pretty much impossible for me not to when you aren't open with your intent. If putting words in your mouth means that I am explaining my POV then really everyone is guilty of this in Mafia. Yes, I could've assumed it was a trap vote/gambit or whatever but at the same time you can't blame me for questioning it - I cannot read your mind and although I can try to figure out what you are thinking, it would be impossible for me to know for sure.

When will people learn that "flip flopping" or moving your vote around a lot is NOT that scummy? Town is very much likely to change their mind and their reads as they go along and will have no problem changing their vote as they see fit. Scum are MUCH more likely to be conscious of how it will look if they change their vote so will be more likely to park it somewhere safe.

 

I agree with this. Townies start the game only knowing their alignment and have to navigate the thread and let their reads on others come organically, which usually leads to them swapping on a few players as things get more in depth. I like how Lewis is applying pressure to players and not allowing himself to get too focused on one person solely.

In the upper right hand of the thread, click on the magnifying glass next to the search field. Don't type anything in the box yet. Once you get to the search screen, don't put Lenlo's name in the "keywords" box or w/e. Scroll down and put his name in the "Find Author" box (it has to be spelled and formatted exactly right). Sort "By Posts" not "By Topic List". Hit search. Voila.

 

2) ISO.  It doesn't work for me.  I do exactly that, and about half to 1/4 of the person's posts actually come up.  It is very strange.

 

I do this the same way minus clicking the Sort button. I just type in their DM handle exactly as it is in the 'Find Author' box, Search, and then once it lists their posts I click 'Ascending' start it starts with the first of theirs first. I haven't really had issues with it.

I would recommend Jack over Lenlo in this instance.  Not that I don't think Lenlofinger is town by any means.  I think we should choose between Nolder or JackD, the two who flipped onto the Wwwwomby bandwagon so quickly after the deadline was posted.  It is highly likely that at least one of them is scum if not both.  Nolder's cry havoc on inactives was such sketchy timing, it screams "Hey guys, look over there!"

Feeling wretched again last night and this morning, sorry I didn't follow through with looking at Jack and Nol last night but after I ate dinner, the reading and making sense of things bit was beyond me (and isn't too far off from being true now).  Being sick sucks.  Hopefully by the time D2 starts I'll be past this creeping crud.

 

Still feeling good about Wombat and Des. Did some rethinking about Lewis' approach yesterday and realized I tend to be less wary of people who get games kickstarted with vague hunch-based votes and watching reactions, the other way it works is with nitpicking tiny "errors" or jokes and building cases to see who follows (see Mynd, Red, et al).  I get more suspicious with those but they work nonetheless.  Looking at Lewis as provisionally town at this point.

 

Wednesday night when I posted (before the leaking faucet that claims to be my nose and the raw patch that used to be my throat convinced me to call it a night) I had started to pull quotes - including from Nolder and Jack - but wasn't up to the task of arranging quotes and thoughts into a coherent argument at the moment.  I can see why Lewis is suspicious of both Nolder and Jack because of the way they jumped on Wombat, because the Wombat case was pretty flimsy.  

 

Nol's choice to vote an inactive D1 is a null tell, as Wombat and others IIRC have pointed out - that's kinda Nol's schtick, and he's used it as both town and mafia.  The fact that he chose to use it now when there was more going on in the thread, a decent chance of a good train and achieving a useful lynch, and no lack of activity overall, makes me lean slightly toward mafia.

 

I'm too hazy (and out of time) to get into a lot of detail at this point, but I liked Despo's case on Jack.  I'm not entirely sure that Nol/Jack are scum/scum, because both of them jumping on Wombat's train as teammates seems unlikely to me.  

 

I'll be home at deadline but unlikely to be available much for the next 10 hours.  Will read up on my breaks and lunch and if necessary I should be able to switch my vote, data network willing and the creek don't rise.

I was responding to Wwwombat's either/or statement about either Jack or Lenlo.  If he said he would either vote Jack or Nolder, heck I'd say flip a coin and toss the dice.  Either would be a fair and reasonable choice at this point.  I wouldn't be surprised if among these four are the entire three mafia team: Jack, Nolder, Lenlo, and Dice.

 

Assuming 3 mafia in a 15 player game, of course.  The power of 3 seems to compel me in this game.  ;)

2 tabs of Alka Seltzer cold medicine and one packet of Emergen-C (any flavor, but I'm terribly partial to the Raspberry).  Mix with cold water, let fiz and then drink it down.  WIthin minutes you will feel all the effects of Oosqui but no blinding hangover afterwards.
