When should I read New Spring?

Pretty straightforward, really (although perhaps the answer is less so...):  Is there a particular spot in the series in which it's recommended to read New Spring

When I last read the series some 6-7 years ago (up through Knife of Dreams), I believe I simply read NS in between CoT and KoD, since that was the order in which those books were published.  I'm just wondering if that still holds up, or if I should be reading it before TEotW, and/or whether it even matters at all when I read NS (in relation to the series' mainline novels).  Advice/recommendations is appreciated!

If you have already read the series completely, I think you could as well start with New Spring. There is nothing in that book you wouldn't understand because of the lack of common knowledge of the series(long sentence is long).

After aCoS - (when Cadsuane is introduced. That's the last of the major points/people 'new' in NS).

Everything that you need to know about NS can be found from EotW-aCoS. If you are doing a re-read, it depends on how well you remember the series. Starting with NS might not be a good idea if you have forgotten a lot about the series, but some people like to read it in chronological order.

IF you are not familiar with the characters/magic system, you CAN make sense of it after tDR (3). If you want to understand all the references and recognize the cameo's of all the characters, any time after aCoS.

I'd suggest reading it before KoD for various reasons, depending on how well you remember events, but if you have not read aMoL, I'd suggest reading it before that at least.

Barid, that's a good point about Cadsuane (I'd forgotten she was one of the characters in NS)...and an even better one about how well I remember the series.  Given how long it's been, I have indeed forgotten much, and -- as I stated in the OP -- I've only read the books up through KoD (I have yet to read the three Sanderson novels).

Given all that, I think I'm going to wait to read NS til at least after finishing CoS as you've suggested.  In fact, I won't be entirely surprised if I end up reading it in between CoT and KoD like I did before.  (On the other hand, I find books 7-10 -- and especially WH and CoT -- to be something of a slog, so I might read NS at some point in the middle of them to break up the monotony a little.)

Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone!

You are a brave man, coming to this forums even you haven't yet finished the series :D

Heh.

I've been very careful to avoid spoilers so far.  As it is, I'll probably avoid the forums as much as possible after this while I read the series (I do now have the Sanderson books finally).  ;)

There were similar threads in the past.

I generally start new times through this series with the prequel.

First time I read the prequel was right after my first time through this series and directly before my second time through this series.

I read any series generally in chronological order.  Or if all the books of the series are numbered, I generally read them in numerical order.
