I second this. I get people mislynched sometimes, but you use that information of who joined you without resistance and who fought against it, and WHY, and use that gleaned information of motive to re-analyze your reads. For example, if someone is happy to jump on a townie lynch and hasn't discussed that player at all -- that's suspicious. It's also suspicious if the lynch is scum because it could be another scum-mate bussing them for town credit. That's why you have to use a few different angles of investigation in tandem to decide if a player is scummy. One scummy thing probably isn't; five scummy things probably is.

 

I've recently gotten better at not mislynching people, especially if I have played with them before. I am still pretty bad about mislynching new players because they tend to sound scummy all the time (to me). That's why I tend to fall back and ask for assistance reading players like Kronos or LoganAura; I can't easily discern if they are actual scum or just bad at arguing. I assume experienced players will behave a certain way with specific circumstances and I use that for reading them -- inexperienced players have a way of mucking that process up for me. It's probably my biggest town game weakness apart from tunneling.

Likewise with Tom once I've played a game with someone 4-5 times and seen how they play both sides I can usually give pretty good guesses on their alignment. I'm trying to improve universal on tone but what throws me off the most are villas who are completely willing to act scummy and then defend it with "well, scum probably won't act scummy" - which is a joke, because reading someone as scum is not a universal inference but reading the motive and context of their posts.

Usually I would not vote people that has just entered the game but unfortunately I have seen Nolder disappear (quit or just become inactive) in situations like this. (Happened in Darthe/Wombat´s 3 in 1 game for example.)
