So people have a Will Not Play list? I´ve never had one.

I do, but I don't always stick to it.

I'm not sure if I'm to continue playing mafia or not. I've been accused of personal attacks a lot lately, and it distresses me. I try so hard to not do that; I don't call people stupid; I might call their actions in a game stupid, but never "you are stupid". At least I try; I'm sure there's moments where I've been so caught up I haven't thought about what I've said. But I've ended up feeling like everyone sees me as a bully lately. So I'm considering quitting.

I don't see any reason for you to quit.  Your game play is fine.

you're not a bully. you play hard and well.

there's a difference.

I read your games.

don't quit if you like playing. nobody should quit if they like playing.

I think you are playing a lot more active and out there than you used to. I like it better.

Thanks very much guys for that, I've felt a bit bad with all the talk about over-aggresive players lately, I was really concerned that I was a person that made other people uncomfortable to play with.

Mish, everything else aside, you and Cloud are, imho, the best of the new breed of DM players. It would make me very sad if you decided to quit. I sincerely hope that you don't.

des, I think it's the other places in which you've seen it perhaps, cause you weren't this kind of player till very recently. there's a group of players here who like punching it out. there's a group that doesn't.

it wasn't a fight club at DM before. I agree with what, I think nol, said about that not being a style that's really what's best for a pg 13 fantasy book forum and tbh pretty smart people capable of very good rational thought without bullying.

and IMO which means nothing... you were a more fun and more effective player before you started punching lol.

I think there's a point you drown yourself out maybe.

I dunno tho.

not my call.

Well I have altered my playstyle somewhat, and I'm sure it prob has gotten more aggressive in some ways, but incidentally I haven't gotten less effective at all lately. Quite the opposite. When I'm town I usually have either a substantial portion or all of a scum team pegged by end of D2/D3. And we've won a good many times. It's not like I think it was just me, I think there's been a general trend of really good town play for a while. There are a lot of good scumhunters who will often combine efforts to "crack" games together wide open.

As scum it's had somewhat mixed results. My team generally has a good chance of winning, but I often find myself either lynched or viewed fairly early in a game. I kinda feel it comes with the territory- I normally put myself in the spotlight so much with my play, that if I am scum it kinda becomes easy to see after a while.

I don't see why just because it's a PG-13 site that it there can't ever be adult content of any kind, that it's gotta be rainbows and unicorns and stuff. We're still mostly adults. It's like all 4 major professional sports banning trash talk. Mebbe getting hyped up and aggressive is my way of psyching myself up to catch scum. Seems to work a lot of the time too.

^This. There are a ton of good newer players tho, it's a good time for our mafia population I think.

I have never experienced your play as bullying. Sure, you have an aggressive playstyle but a lot more people here play like that too including me, but I haven't ever seen you attack someone on a personal level before. In fact you are always so careful to not hurt the other people you play with, and you now considering quitting because of it is only proof of that. I find it admirable. So yeah please don't quit playing mafia, because if you do then this place will become a whole lot less fun.

D&D is like slamming your favorite body parts in a drawer over and over again.

Depends on who or what you are slamming them into.... naturally the experience varies greatly.

I think I know the incident you're referring to, but I think it's best left as water under the bridge.

@des yeah, pretty pointless talking about it if you don't see it the way others who play with you and watch you play do. you'll play how you like and that's the end of it.

there's nothing adult about "trash talk" though. or about finding new and creative ways to insult people and call them stupid. or as you semantically prefer, calling their play and everything they say stupid. (not just you) we are not all adults by any stretch of the imagination, btw. you have plenty of other forums where you play where that is either true or where no one minds.

as little as I play I'll never play in the current environment which is nobody's loss. certainly not mine.

and we can agree to disagree on your effectiveness cause again... I read em all. maybe you keep a chart, I don't. but I'm not missing any games.

I am skipping reading most of the trash talk posts cause the tl; dr version is always, "just do what I want you to do or I'll beat your head into the pavement with my superior obnoxiousness"

lol I could spend a week with my family if I needed that.

I don't have a problem with Despo's attitude in mafia games. I think he is a great player and I find his playstyle humorous. The same holds true for Golden who plays in a similair way. I don't take their insults to heart because I know that it's just part of their mafia persona.

Role PM phrasing schemes such as "what's are the third, seventh, and twentieth letters of your win-con?" are the only true way to maintain the spirit of the game. After all, mafia is, at its essence, a battle of cryptography. As townies drop their public keys in D1, the mason team should be "accidentally" leaking private keys which lead to incorrect win-cons hidden within verification keys to get the mafia to slip on their AES driven fake claim.

Say what?  Those schemes are how you play against the spirit of the game.  The game isn't about cryptography - it is figuring out who that informed minority is through slips & tells in their gameplay.  Or sometimes getting lucky with roles.

But trying to use your PM to clear or incriminate others is as far as you can get from what mafia is about.

it's pretty effective at getting some people not playing at all.

it's also effective at delaying signups while playground group A waits to see if playground group B starts signing up.

cause there are a growing number of people with Will Not Play With Them lists.

and it's dumb anyway.

I agree with everything you've said in this post, with the exception of the last line.  I disagree with you on that one because some people simply won't have fun playing with certain players......and I wouldn't blame them to not want to subject themselves to that.  If players A-D make the game not fun for player X, then I don't blame X from not signing up when A-D all do.  The reasons could be crap, of course, but they are still X's reasons.

oh, that's not what I was calling dumb. I totally get not wanting to play with someone who's gonna suck all the fun out of it for you.

I mean the "you're a dummy!" " well you're a weeny head!" school of play is dumb. IMO.

Ahh, gotcha.  My bad, I misunderstood.  I'd say I agree, but then I play predominantly on JN.....so that would make me a filthy hypocrite.

I wondered that myself, but I don't know him.  Just making sure newer folks reading this thread didn't think that post had any truth to it.  If a joke post, all good.
