So I'm putting Coraman through the ceremony and I'm realizing that the ceremony guidelines really doesn't leave room for creativity and a fun RP.

I'm thinking of restructuring the ceremony a little bit and also throw in a couple of other raising options for the Trainees to become Tower Guards. Something like a spar or an initiation challenge.

But before I do, I wanted to feel your pulses and see what you guys think.

I agree 100%. That ceremony comes from a time when we had A LOT more people on DM and we needed something so uniform. With fewer members now, I think that restructuring is a GREAT idea.

I dunno, we could always start off with a kidnapping the trainee routine... *smirks* finish up with a mead...

In all seriousness, I'm all for getting rid of those copy and paste ceremonies. We already have a fight to pick for one of the req's, so I'm liking the initiation challenge idea. We could set up a "game" scenario, where they have to win or at least performs well. Capture the flag, maybe?

Please change that thing... anything would be better. I think that it would be far more fun to do the 'vigil' the night before. I.E. a night of reflecting on what it means to be a TG, what has led them to this point... leave it open to interpretation based on each individual. For one it could be very solemn, for another it could be a night on the town.

I love the vigil option, really plays to the whole knighthood thing, and being a Tower Guard is a sworn duty to be taken almost as seriously as knightly vows I think. Kinda like the Night's Watch in Game of Thrones, but less celibate and depressing. And of course, the (unofficial of course but rarely enforced against) option of partying hard afterwards is usually fun :)

I honestly don't have any more ideas for it, but I'm happy that others agree that that ceremony is a relic from another time; time to move forward.

Alright, here's what I got.

To be raised to the ranks of a Tower Guards means you are ready to swear your life to the Creator and to the White Tower. Your Trainee years has been spent honing your skills to be a worthy warrior of the Light and if the Light graces you, to be a Gaidin for an Aes Sedai. At this point, you should know that it is okay to be afraid for fear is what gives you courage. That no one warrior is the same as another, it's who wins the battle and remains alive. And that your life is not only your own but it is of the Yards and all that we stand for.

You have two choices as to your raising ceremony:

  • Face an initiation formed by Tower Guards, a minimum of one other PC (the more the merrier) - they will put you through challenges to prove your worth to join their ranks. This can be out in the wilderness, in the city, or even with Aes Sedai in the plot. The objective - form this initiation to teach YOUR character what it truly means to be a Tower Guard. At the end of this initiation, all involved PCs and the ready-to-be-raised Trainee approaches the Master at Arms for promotion.
  • A three day vigil alone in the wilderness, contemplating your years as a Trainee. Reflect on all that you have learned, those you have met, what has become of you, and your dreams of what you will become. Since this is a solo RP, a minimum of 6 posts are required. They need to be written to really reflect your character's growth, inspiration, and dreams. The first, your departure day; 3 of your vigil (one for each day), the fifth, meeting a PC Tower Guard who is your mentor and role model to reflect your thoughts; the final day, petitioning the Master at Arms for promotion (with your mentor).
*~*~*~*~

Thoughts? I just wanted to keep it pretty open and flexible - everyone has different ideas of an initiation *glances at U4ea's kidnapping idea* so I thought this would be a pretty good way to go about it.
