Basel..you are being awfully snippy this game.  Having a bad day?

I don't blame him.  I get joke votes, it gets the game going and makes the first part of Day 1 fun and lighthearted...but just a vote, with nothing? And then the no explanation?

Unvote. Time to take off the joke vote. The reaction from Hybrid was extremely interesting to note, but I'm only giving it an FoS for the time being. He could still be town. I'll see what develops while I'm at work.

This is the second time that you've called my reaction interesting, while carefully avoiding any statement that I seemed to be defending player.  And then you follow it up by unvoting him.

I don't feel that you are defending him. I do think you are being evasive by making a vote and not only failing initially to provide your reason for it, but actively refusing to do so when pressed. This only serves to create chaos without actually accomplishing anything. You aren't going to convince anyone to join you if you don't back up your vote with a case, whether you're town or not. Creating chaos and disorder might help scum, but scum would be better helped by lynching a townie. In any event, I generally consider evasiveness to be a scumtell.

As for my unvote, Dap made a joke that flew right over my head. He then explained himself and made it clear that he was joking. He may or may not be scum after all, but his reaction goes down as a null tell in my book. We are past the joke vote stage, so I see no need to keep my joke vote in play.

Super townie + fencing.  I like my vote where it is for now.

Wait, so you think he's a super townie?  If so, then why would you vote him?

No, I think he's trying to appear like a "super townie" with his mafia 101 lecturing.

Most of the times people who are "super townie" are the one who turn out to be scum, atleast those who are pros, and know their own meta's

Posted

That is ridiculously illogical.  You play to an ultimate goal, either to get all others killed or to weed out the bad ones and kill them.  Anything that conflicts with that goal is wrong.  Townsmembers should want to look super townie, as should mafia.  When this is done effectively the ones who are motivated to it by self preservation are evident.

Posted

Okay, think of it in opposing terms.  Does any member of the town have a legitimate reason to appear anti-town, barring a role that dictates that play or an ulterior motive such as beating the grass?  No.  Does mafia have any reason to ever appear anti-town barring the same?  No.  However, if we see a trend in each individual as attempting to appear a particular way then it creates disparity for those who are not acting to their true nature.  Cognitive dissonance, aka they inevitably will do something that doesn't make perfect sense to their false motive because it will dispute their true goals.  They are forced to activity.

Yea I disagree darthey boy

Town players shouldn't be trying to appear super town and neither should a mafia. It gets noticed and, as town, will attract NKs and stuff (only good if you are a vanilla), and as mafia, it gets picked up by everyone as a tell

Posted

still dont agree with you darthe, like dap and ishy said, the more townie you look the more likely people vote you for being too townie(ish) or you get NK'd.

Wait wait wait. Are you saying that you, Ishy, agree with me?

Even if I did, do you think there's anyway in hell that I'd ever admit it?

There is a place for trying to look super town, but on the whole it's a subtle dance between the hint of being lynched so the mafia keeps you alive, and pro actively hunting mafia and being town, so the town keeps you alive

Posted

That's the rub though, I'm not interested in staying alive usually, I'm interested in winning. I win with my team alive or dead, if my getting lynched helps smoke out scum, I'm happy to do it. That's the problem around here, everyone's much too concerned with living till the end instead of helping their team win.

But dude, i remember someone saying in a game that one of the tactics used as scum is saying lynch me and self voting to give yourself town cred/ getting people of your own train.

Posted

I've given my life numerous times. But I can often be more useful alive than dead

It depends on the game, but generally I don't self sacrifice till after day 3. I've usually got my thoughts out by then and, if I'm sacrificing, I'm trying to save a PR of some kind

I don't know who told you that but self-voting and asking to be lynched are two of the absolute scummiest things you can do. People who do that I also immediately lynch on principle.

eh dude imagine doing this a couple of hours before the deadline or something, it might work

Mafia dont do it, well very very rarely. They don't generally have the PR to protect or the numbers to justify laying down their life for another

i think peace did something like that in darthe's base game (i could be totally wrong) but i think its mostly done for the wifom spread and confusing town
