Weekend Games?

Would anyone be interested in participating in games on the weekend?

I know the perception is that mafia games are ghost towns on the weekends but I think there are enough people who regularly play mafia floating around that we could actually make games happen on a regular basis if enough people openly committed to it.

 

I think a really good way to implement this would be to use Epicmafia.com. They have plenty of roles to make setups with and the best part is things like voting and killing is automated by the coding so we wouldn't need a moderator. In addition games are set on a timer and will automatically modkill players and advance the game IF enough players vote for that to occur. So we could politely wait for 2-3 minutes and if enough of us get impatient we just vote to kick and the inactive player drops out. HOPEFULLY we wont have any inactive players though because all gameplay would take place via instant message type chatting and deadlines are, IIRC, 15 minute days and 5 minute nights. Games should be over in 15-45 minutes depending on how many people we have and how fast we lynch. Another cool feature is password protected games. So everyone who plays will be from DM and we wont have any random people playing. What do you guys think?

Some more cool features of the site

 

Webcam games! If you have a webcam you can have a little video in the window and you know talk to people and whatnot while you play. So we could possibly have the equivalent of IRL games without actually being in the same place at the same time. Shy people and/or people without webcams could still play in the same game as people with webcams. It's a completely optional thing.

 

Stats! Epicmafia records how many times you play any certain role and records whether you won or lost. If you're into that sort of thing it can be interesting.

 

Profiles and whatnot. Ya know how those work.

 

Edit: more things I thought of

The game may take place over chat but the way it's coded you can double click what someone said to quote them and it shows up in a noticeable way in the chat

 

Another neat thing is notes

There is an in game notepad you can type stuff in that only you can see

I don't take notes but it's pretty cool to have if you're the type of person who does

 

You can also "assign" people roles

This is something only you can see

So if you think someone is a cop you can turn their icon from the default blank icon into the cop icon

Again that's something only you can see

Also if you change your mind later you can change it back or change it into something else

Do you guys think setting a specific day would be a good idea? like saturdays only or sundays only?

Could be a mix of both. Set a day and time for a game, but if ten of us were online, we could easily play unplanned games whenever too. Checking it out now.

Could always organize it quickly on a group skype chat. Have everyone in the group and then it's quick to see who's online and up for it. I don't know about everyone else but if I'm on my computer then I'll generally have skype on so that'd be the way to reach me.
