[BASIC] Terminator Mafia: TOWN AND SK WIN!

Now before the game began, I promised everyone an explanation as to why Red dropped out after signing up. Several weeks before this, Red made a decision to take a break from playing mafia and concentrate just on modding games. It was shortly after this that I started a private conversation with her about a game we had both been in, and during that convo I brought up that I was in the queue to mod my first game. Since she was retired, I figured it would be safe for me to mention that I was going with DPR's sample setup from the first post in the How to Mod thread that is pinned in this forum. By the time I began signups, she had forgotten this, but I considered the damage done. What if she remembered it during the course of the game? What if she didn't consciously recall it, but it still influenced her gameplay from deep inside her mind? The information would still be in her brain somewhere. I contacted Red privately, and she agreed with me that it would be best for her to drop out of signups. The error was entirely mine for assuming that she would still be retired when I began my game, and Red is blameless here.

There were a couple other moments when I wondered if things would derail for me. Lily's death scene really seemed like it messed up the mafia team due to my failure to specify that scenes were just flavor and had no hints. So while I meant to write the hammering player as making the death blow in-scene all along, I wound up accidentally outing a mafia member. I clarified that the scene had no hints, and EP believed me... but Peace had already submitted his view of Rand. I talked to an experienced mod about this who wasn't playing, and I got told that it should be fine and I wouldn't have to compensate. I still have doubts; if I had been told I messed up too badly, I would have either turned AJ into a Godfather or given the scum a free recruit. Most likely I would have gone with the Godfather option.

The other issue I had was more easily fixed... Maw's win condition. I intended all along to copy DPR's sample setup, since it was my first mod and figuring out a setup was something I wanted to put off till I had the running of the game down a little better. The setup was a cop, a doc, a one-shot SK, 3 mafia, and 6 vanilla townies. Problem was, I somehow missed DPR outlining the win conditions. I told Maw he had to be one of the last two players, DPR has the SK needing to be one of the last three. I didn't catch this till the game was well underway. Since my intent was to copy DPR's setup exactly, and the game hadn't gotten that far yet, I had no problem with changing Maw's win condition. Maw, I was really impressed with your play in this game, if you had saved your bullet for Peace once BG was dead, you might even have made it to the final two.

I had fun, though. I may do an advanced version of this theme sometime in the future, when I was figuring out characters I started seeing things which would work better in an advanced setup.

The death scene had no influence on my viewing target. I skim them anyway. I didn't even catch the implication til after you posted the flavor thing. You did good.

Why did you guys kill EP and not BG on night two?

I can't remember, but I know we discussed them both. It's on the QT.

Serial Killer's win condition was to be one of the last three people surviving, but he used his one shot kill, but he was still one of the last three people, but town survived, so they both won. God, it is depressing. Everyone but us won.

Anyone wonder about game balance though on this? I don't think there is any real way for town to have won if I wasn't lucky enough to get 2 successive scum views and the first scum outting herself.

The additional kill and 1 less town player in a 12 person setup seems about 1/2 a player off. So, maybe a solo win type without a kill action but maybe a block or something like that?

I wish I could play a game with DPR. If DPR played in my Dark Knight mafia game, I would literally pinch myself to see if I was dreaming. When was the last time DPR played a mafia game?

Peace, you'd have to take that up with DPR. He's the one who wrote the setup.

What are your thoughts though? I mean..town had to be pretty close to perfect to win this one. Should there not be at least a little bit more wiggle room.

I think the one time kill evened it up.

My point is the 1 time kill unbalanced it.

A normal basic with 12 is what?

1 godfather

3 henchmen

1 doc

1 cop

7 vanilla

That's 1 kill a night. The extra kill moves it over 1/2 a player it seems.

He plays when he can. He's just a very busy guy. He doesn't play on DM all that much, though, I don't think.

HAH I was discussing this the other day with Basil, I was like The SK is out of kills isn't he? I assumed that the SK had 2 shots and used the second on me and the mafia was blocked but He only confirmed the SK was out of shots but would not say more
