I think I've played enough mafia to know that being able to metaclear yourself like that isn't fair

 

let's pretend you're a cop

night 1 you investigate scum and say so the following day

the mafia can try counterclaiming but what's the point

everyone knows you refuse to lie (ie you are telling the truth about your claim) so there can be no challenging it

that's fair?

 

what about a situation where you're about to be lynched because people find you suspicious?

all you have to do is say "I'm town"

that's fair?

 

Can't force people to lie. Not much you can do about it... who cares.

Well far be it for me to tell someone how to play. If you don't want to lie, don't. But I don't think that anyone should get upset that no one believes them. I know I personally approach the game from the angle of, everyone here is a liar or at least lying with the truth. Just because you don't lie very often is fine, but eventually you could lie, so I am going stick with the idea that every person in game is probably lying.

I don't understand why you guys play the game if you're not going to play it the way it's intended

I'll be the first to allow people should play mafia however they like (including flinging insults to make others mad IMO) but when you build a meta like that where you can just clear yourself it's more or less cheating

This goes both ways though. Whenever this person is scum you can just get them with "Are you town?" and if they try to dance around the point instead of just saying "yes" then you get a free lynch.

I see it as not a problem until you start self declaring you never lie. If others pick up on the fact you never seem to lie, good for them for figuring out your play style, but self proclaiming says "Everyone can automatically trust everything I will ever have to say" which as people have said, defeats the purpose of what the game is about.

I just feel playing without lying at all is against the spirit of the game, but that is my opinion. I like to be able to pick out the lies or slip-ups of the mafia.

wow guy you think this is the only game ive seen you in.. your get all egotistical to just about anyone who dosent agree with you. You havent proved squat except that you good at kicking up alot of dust to hid you own faults and a pro and pointing out others. It's really hard to make a salient point when you are bullying someone about semantics. That said, I don't agree with personal attacks either. We are adults here, so please, let's stop arguing like children. At this rate, the rest of us are going to have to read through about 5 pages of this mud slinging, and I would much prefer not to waste my time reading the same argument transfigured a hundred times.

I looked at some of the past games played over there...they are definitely not nice to each other. I usually don't let the stuff said in game get to me too much, but I don't like when people get personally attacked - I'd rather just stick to the game, not bring external factors in, you know?

 

We are after the game is over. Actually a closely knit group believe it or not.

The Christine lynch was necessary, imo. We needed to remove the white noise it would have carried through the game. Now we know where she stands and can use that. Sucks we lost a lynch because of it, but better now than endgame, like a few folks have noted.
