Mafia Grievances

This seems like a good place for a rant. I am not going to be playing mafia for the foreseeable future as I have reached my boiling point. Over two-plus years, I've had games beyond counting where I have gone off for a work shift and been totally offline for several hours, only to come home and find myself lynched because I haven't been around. The usual line of moronic idiocy has been that I haven't been posting, and I haven't been making any effort to defend myself or reveal during the ensuing period. This has been despite a long-established meta that I AM NOT AROUND at certain times of the day on a regular basis in pretty much every game I play.

 

I can't even begin to describe what kind of obnoxious, offensive, garbage this is. Is my personal availability somehow indicative of my alignment? I keep seeing all the time that I leave when I am under pressure and I leave town hanging. Never mind that I leave at the same time every day. I leave when I have to go to work. End of story. This might come as a huge shock to some of you, but not everyone in the world has the ability to sit on their lazy ass and play mafia 24/7. So then if I think I might be run during the daytime while I am gone, I have tried revealing before I leave, only to then get hit for claiming unnecessarily. You people can't have it both ways. I can even understand somewhat when scum run me up when I'm not around to score an easy mislynch. But all too often, I have seen townies driving a lynch on me while I am out for the day.

 

I still plan on modding games. But I flat out refuse to put up with how scummy I am perceived somehow being dependent upon my work schedule any longer. If I see any sign that this will change, I might begin playing again. But I'm not holding my breath.

 

Well, you also have what I'd call "bad tone" if that makes you feel any better.

 

People should clearly post schedules of their work day or availability if they want to be excused for it. I know you're not talking about me specifically, but I've seen other players make this same argument, and I have no idea what your work schedules are and it's absurd that you'd expect me to know or care.

 

Sorry, my perception of the game doesn't revolve around your life. But if you really want me to factor it in, post your schedule for me.

Tommy, I don't expect you to know my schedule, but I had hoped that at some point being absent from every game at consistently the same time would become part of my meta. People who have been on DM long enough would notice a pattern to my post times. That hasn't happened.

You're assuming that people can or should care, though. It's an easy meta to hide behind on days you're not actually busy, and scum will exploit it when you're town. It's something you'll have to loudly broadcast every game. I can't even remember my own age, I wouldn't remember your schedule even after years of playing here.

I have to agree with Tommy on this one.  I've been run up at work before and I know it sucks, but there isn't one person on DM who's work schedule I know and I don't know why you would expect me to memorize it from your play.

I've seen countless games where semi inactive to inactive players have made it to end game or close to it.

 

I think it's funny that you assume the your absence is the ONLY reason you get lynched. I have a feeling your play-style works into that as well. You play scummy. Now if you combine that with absence... you got yourself a legit target for a lynch.

 

This reminds me of Mish making that comment that something was done on purpose while she was sleeping. No one knows when you're sleeping, working, eating, going number 1/2. There are various time zones and people all over the world playing. You want your time zone and availability known? Then make it known. Fail to do so? Then don't complain later. Or complain and be ignored, Same diff =)

Basel I have no idea about your time zone even, let alone your schedule.

 

In fact, up till this point I was 100% convinced you were pulling these on purpose. I'm happy to give you the benefit of doubt man... But your schedule is your responsibility, not the other players.

 

If someone runs you up on purpose while you're gone, well I don't find that a classy move, I can assure you - but you signed up the game knowing your schedule and likely deadline timings.

 

If that sux and don't work out for you, I'm genuinely sorry about it.

Lynched. Of course he was killed that night. It's not a subtle thing.

 

There are several players who's schedules are either known (won't post on weekends, will only post on weekends , can't post from work except for peeks) and who are well Enough liked by the social club that they get a pass for it even when they tell you straight up they lurk now and then on their downtime, or who freely come and go as life dictates, as anyone should, say oh sorry for being inactive and float by.

 

Again it's not a subtle thing and since it's over I'll stfu about it now.

 

Fwiw tommy and krak, you're not the issue. Though I know you are the center of your own universe, goat-man.

 

Don't know who has the time for these games anyway. Silly business.
