Taralan vs. Arvalon

Remember, the "beggar and the staff" was fulfilled in one small scene in Ebou Dar. It seems that you and I are in the same boat in regards to big BIG prophecies are being fulfilled in a lack-luster way. You could be right, but I rather doubt it. This seemed to me to be a "Check! That prophecy is taken care of.." sort of thing.

I wish that the prophecy is not fulfilled and that Egwene gets mad and does something forceful against Rand at FoM..that would be fun at it will end in her eating crow as Rand is right on the seal matter. Unfortunately I do think that that prophecy has been fulfilled at ToM.

Yeah I'm thinking that the "anger" part hasn't been fulfilled yet, and the chapter title is just to throw people. If it was the fulfillment of the foretelling then it is a major let down, as I was looking forward to a proper confrontation between them, maybe confrontation isn't the right word but I'm expecting Egwene's anger to be more than was shown in that chapter.

Well, perhaps it should be asked in a different way:

Would Egwene ever let herself show more anger than she did here? We know from her POV that she had no intentions of losing control of herself, but when he turned his back on her when SHE wasn't finished, that went out the window.

How angry is angry in regards to Egwene?

As a sidebar: I love to rip on Egwene, but that is due to her awesome character arc; the bigger the player, the more criticism she gets. The Egwene hate we sometimes see mystifies me.

This thread was about Taralan and Great Arvalon. Not about the Amyrlin's anger. That such a thing can happen in only 30 posts...

Agreed. I'm about done with this constant stream of thread jacking to pro/anti egwene/aes sedai comments. New policy, don't do it.

Now back on topic.

I'm going to bet that until we get something else to help out with the topic from BS, we have exhausted this topic. There just isn't enough to go off of... bashing Egwene? I apologize if it seemed I was doing that. She is my second favorite character in the books, and I had no intentions of doing so. Sorry.

I think it is very interesting that Arvalon is so close to Avalon. That sticks with the idea that the books are not based on Mythology they are our mythology. They are the mythological characters in our stories like Lenn and Merc are in there stories. So, that would put our time at the end of the 4th age? 5th age?

people say they are both, which hurts my head, and i'm not sure how you're saying it. but i think the transition from tar valon to avalon is supposed to be "intuitively obvious." and back again. if i understand the wheel. which i don't.

but lenn and merc are also obviously from our time. so again, the wheel, which i do not understand.

Both are mentioned in quotes relating to the Dragon (Taralan in tDR, Arvalon in LoC). They both seem to be corruptions of Tar Valon.

So, what does this mean? Are they from the same city but centuries apart? Or are there two cities based on Tar Valon in the 4th age (maybe Tar Valon is destroyed in the Last Battle)?

Arvalon probably is Tar Valon. I speculate that Taralan is a corruption of Tar Alantin - Tower of Brothers (ie Asha'man) in the OT.
