Do Dragonmount be dead

I´m starting to wonder.. or fear do be the right word =P that DM will die pretty soon. After aMoL is released and analysed will there be anything else to talk about? Will DM and all the WoT fans with their theories and questions move on, cause there will be no more book?

Many have said that the reason there is so much theory, speculation and analyzing of every single word on every page is because we are waiting for the next book. Me starting to read in 1997... I think haven´t had the opportunity to wait as long as some of you have, but when the waiting is gone, the story finished, will this also be gone. Feels kinda sad. But maybe that do be good. There are other books out there... sigh...

What do be your thoughts on this?

No. The series has already proved to have staying power, having spanned nearly 20 years. I don't think it will die so soon. As long as there are new readers, there will be new members and, as long as there are new members, there will be Dragonmount.

Well I think some parts of the board might die off, but there'll always be new people coming to the series who'll need things explained, and there's no reason for the RP sections to die, or the non-WoT parts. Also it depends what happens with the plans to turn the books into movies. If any movies did come out I'm sure that would give this place a big boost, if it ends up needing one. But yes it would be said if it did die completely :(

I think we can still keep this place open since we have so much more to offer than just the wonderful theories to discuss. While the 'what will happened next in the WoT saga' discussions/debates are a major part of dragonmount this website has very wisely opened it up to a whole new level with the non Wot debates/discussion that will always be new and fresh, the social groups that are roughly based in the WoT theme and the RP worlds where you can jump into and live the story yourself. When the story is concluded we will still all be fans of the books and some people have had WoT in their lives for so long now they won't want to just drop it. I think this site has a lot of potentional to keep the fans, keep the feel and move more into a nastalgic site with enough novilty and room to progress it into something new at the same time.

Of course it will take hard work on the staffs part of getting it set up to be a place where people are drawn in and active and want to keep moving forward and it will take hard work on the part of the members to be active and get involved. I think if there is enough activity going strong into the release of AMoL then we could do well afterwards. If people see this site as a strong active place to hold on to the series they love in a way that it will still live on (through RP or being tied into the social groups) and a place they can come to discuss/debate anything and everything then yes I think the site can stay going into the years after AMoL comes out. People have been on this site for 10 years and while the intriuge of the next book may have kept them here so far I think the friendships and personal connections people made will keep them here at least for a few years after the series ends.

Mm true. Although the debate about the books and what will happen plotwise will die out I´m hope the rest of DM will be here. And all the new fans need someone on the internets to turn to for guidance and wisdom.

And there are the RPparts too.. although I haven´t personally checked them out. About the movies...sigh. I´ve been hoping for so long that I don´t think it´ll happen. The best would be a tv-series... that would give the community a big boost.

I wonder how many new fans discover WoT each year... do we have any numbers? lol...

I don't see DM going away at all. Look at some of the more established Lord of the Rings sites. That series was published in the 50's, but there's still discussion forums going on over there.

As others have pointed out already, there's so many other different subjects that this site covers aside from WoT.

Within WoT, there will be media-related stuff going on for years with this series. I'd be shocked if there isn't at least one movie/TV deal out of the Wheel. Above all-both Jordan and Sanderson have indicated that there will be minor loose ends left open after AMOL, so there is plenty of room for speculation on those loose ends.

Long live Dragonmount!

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this. Yes, I think I personally might be out of a job in 2 years or so. But, as mentioned above, there's much more to DM than WoTD. Perhaps this thread is better suited for the social general discussion; those folks (yes, Kathleen, I'm looking at you) know more than I do on the social happenings here.

PS

Somehow, though, I think even the WoTD will live on in some form. People debated Asmodean's death for a decade, with little in the way of new evidence.

The community will definitely contract once new material stops coming out, especially if RJ's estate doesn't license derivative works by others. But will it go away totally? No, or at least not for a very long time.

Also, remember that there's likely to be an encyclopedia. AMoL is not likely to be the final entry in the WoTaverse.

Not sure about the outtriggers... Brandon must be wanting to take a break from the Wheel and he has his own epic to write. I´d be happy if the encyclopedia was published. For outtriggers, if they are ever written... I hope the story is good and one worth telling.
